Played this morning in a POP of 3 hours. Course is still holding it's own through all the recent heat waves, as well as the numerous rounds being played. Seems like there are 2,3,4 tournaments every week recently. Fairways are still green/brown with various lies (good/thin) but providing good roll. Tee boxes are fine and much more receptive to tees than in the past. Bunkers all clean and playing well. Greens (though not rolled today) are holding shots, chipping and putting well (though some are damaged due to bad/mad golfers). Customer service excellent as usual.

Played yesterday in a nice POP of 3.5. The course IMO is taking a beating with lack of enough water and the summer heat. Fairways are thin throughout. Hard to find a lie that is decent. And as I have said before, don't get off the fairways if possible because those areas are brown hard pan and you know what that brings you? And sngernz favorite "iron grass" is growing like crazy? Greens seem to be being kept longer to avoid burning in the heat, so they don't putt very well presently. And many of them had damage (# 8 looked someone got mad and attacked it) or dry/burnt spots on some of them. But I did find the tee boxes (as well they should be as we all know they were rebuilt) to be fine and easier to put tees in, as they are moving the markers around and allowing the beat up areas to grow back. Not in any bunkers but they all appeared fine. Customer service excellent at all levels. At this time in the year you just have to take what you get when you play here for the next 2 months.

Played on 7/29 as a single at 9:40 and POP was just over 4 hours with minimal waiting on about 1/3 of the holes. My course rating would be higher but for drought conditions, but the greens were in good condition rolling nicely about medium in the morning and getting little faster as the day wore on. Tee boxes are always good and level since the renovation 2-3 years ago. Bunkers were nice and fluffy. Fairways were decent given the drought conditions with some thin lies but very playable, but roughs were brutal so hitting straight is a must for scoring well here. One of the perks for playing at LV is the weather as it is probably 10-15 degrees cooler playing along the coast compared to inland and valley areas.

Out early this AM and back in just under 4 hours. The two groups in front of us were horribly slow and they were regulars (which certainly slowed things behind us). Conditions were acceptable but nothing to write home about. Customer service was excellent at all levels. The course was still damp. Fairways were a mixture of good and bad lies all morning (no consistency). Greens, while looking nice, needed a mowing (IMO). Not in any bunkers but they appeared OK. Course seems to be going through withdrawals during this drought and can't make up its mind which week it is going to be better than the last?

Thought I'd give Los Verdes another chance on my Friday golf day and made a 6:15 tee time by phone as a single, no problem, and was matched up with 3 men's club members who were great company. PoP was 4:15. The good: Kikuyu fairways were mostly green, thick, and full ...never a bad lie as long as you stayed in the short stuff. Bunkers looks well cared for, too. The bad: Poa greens were very green but very, very firm. Not receptive at all, even a well struck wedge would move forward after impact. Good thing that they rolled true. The ugly: anywhere not in a fairway or on/around the greens. Plus, I've never seen the wire grass as abundant as today, it's everywhere, even creeping onto the fairways ... and there doesn't seem to be any effort to stop the spread of this wrist breaking weed. Water rationing has limited growing anything green more than 10 yards off the fairway cut, so good luck on any errant shots. A couple of my higher hcp playing partners had some absolutely horrendous lies under the trees. I'm inclined to guess they will have to micro-punch the greens soon, they are so firm. And bring a hammer to drive your tee in cuz the soil on the boxes is rock hard. Those are the conditions I found today, sorry to report. Played this morning in a nice 3.5 hour pace. The latest cooling trend (along with watering) has put the course in much greener shape. That comment was made several times during the round by everyone. Tee boxes were also more receptive to tees today, no doubt due to watering? Fairways were nice (not lush) and most provided good lies, though the occasional thin lie popped up as well. Greens were putting and chipping well and in great shape. Bunkers appeared clean and playable. You will still see the outside of the fairways brown, but if you avoid that area, no big deal. Customer service at all levels was great.

Played today in a nice POP of 3.5 hours. Not much to say from last review, other than they are doing a lot of hand watering on the greens to eradicate the dry spots caused by the heat. It appears to be working. Greens were putting very well. While the tee boxes having all been leveled in the past two years, are still in good shape, they are getting hard and causing difficulty placing a tee in the ground (some not all). Bunkers all in good shape. Customer service was great at all levels.

Had a 6:52 tee time this morning for $38.50 walking rate. I hadn't played here for probably around 20 years, so it was nice to come back. I had reserved the time as a single and was slated to play with two twosomes, but one of them didn't show up and surprisingly there was no one on the wait list, so we played as a threesome. We were behind a fivesome but the fivesome moved swiftly and we didn't have to wait much all morning. Total POP was just a hair over 4.5 hours.

I hardly know where to start with conditions because it's such a mixed bag right now. I'll start with the good: Greens are very nice, smooth and accepting of shots. The tee boxes are in good condition (although some VERY hard) and are nicely defined along the edges. I wasn't in a bunker but they looked great. Now to the rest of it: The fairways were very inconsistent with some really nice areas and many dry, yellowed out areas that don't really play like fairway. I'd estimate only about 30% is the nice stuff, though. Balls don't often stop on the other 70%, which leads to the rough, which is in even worse condition. Many times my ball came to rest on hardpan that exists between clumps of dead/dormant grass, which makes for very difficult shots.

There was a good breeze most of the day and the fog burned off just in time for the scenic stretch starting at 15, so that was nice. Hard to beat this rate, but I do wish fairway and rough conditions were better than they are.

Played this morning in a nice POP of 4 hours. Course is really undergoing changes with the water shortage. While the tee boxes and greens are green, the rest of the course is undergoing a change with the water usage. Fairways are narrower (but rolling nicely) and you will get some thin lies but overall they are really good. On the outside of the fairways, you can get into trouble (like 17) with errant shots as those areas are sparsely watered. Sand traps are all fine. They did experience some burning on the greens due to our recent hot spell, but they are spot watering to bring those areas back and they don't effect putting at all. Given that they are under a 35% water cutback, they seem to be doing a great job, given the number of players each day. Excellent customer service as always at all levels.
