Walked on as a non-resident single on Wednesday, 12/23. Got on the list at 5:30 a.m. and was playing by 7:00 as scheduled. The starter was friendly and efficient. Overall, the course ws in great shape, considering the volume of rounds played daily and the time of year. The tee boxes were fine, though several are not level. Fairway conditions are pretty good and the short rough is very forgiving. Despite the unrepaired ball marks, the greens were good -- holding well and rolling smooth with consistent speed. With groups limited to four players, the pace of play was great. We finished earlier than I expected, in just four hours.

I hope that Rancho will begin to repair the tee boxes like they did on the first tee with all the tees that need it so bad, i.e. 3, 8, 12, 16, (the par 3's) Also a couple of others, but these really need it. Also if they would cut back the tree on 3 so it doesn't play like a dogleg, that would probably speed up play. The trees on 14 that shade that green could also be trimmed to let the sun hit that green all year. Other than this, I love Rancho for it is really the only course for regular golfers on the Westside.

Fairly good shape for the TPC of L.A. City munis. Greens a bit bumpy & the traffic is heavy. Pace of play was a horrendous 5 1/2 hours. If you have a whole day to kill give it a try. Enjoy.

!st group out on a Saturday and finished in 4 hrs. The greens are almost 100% recovered from aeration. Bunkers were firm from the morning mist. Among the City courses, this is in the best condition.

I love Rancho. HOWEVER --- I would never tee off there more than 1 hour to 1.5 hours after sunrise. Most complaints about Rancho are for slow play. We tee off there either Saturday or Sunday within the first 5 or 6 groups and play in 4 hours-ish. Sometimes less, sometimes a little more.

For $39 (non resident, weekend price) it's the best bargain in LA. I mean, there are some totally nasty dog tracks like Alondra or Victoria that are in that same price range. For as much play as Rancho gets, which is about the most in the country, it's normally in very good shape. The conditions of the greens come and go. They're usually always at least "good" and sometimes "great". Every now and then a green or two gets beat up pretty bad for some reason. In particular, hole 14 was very bad for part of the year (disease) but recovered well.

On the plus side, it was empty for a Sunday morning. We finished in 4.5 hours and the pace was excellent. Really only waited on the long par 3 7th.

Played here 9/6/09. Tee time got delayed for 45 min and took 5.5 hours to finish. Course was in good shape.

Played on Saturday, August 15 with an early morning tee time. It took us about 4 1/2 - 5 hours to play 18 holes but we tee off about 15 minutes late. With the city lifting restrictions on watering, the groundskeeper were watering some of the fairways while we were playing. It was not fun hitting your approach shot on hole #2 with a sprinkler right behind you. With all the watering going on, some of the fairways were very wet. Some of the other fairways were dry with hard pan areas.

The bunkers were mostly hard pack. It was not soft and fluffy. When we played here, we were using alternate greens on hole #16 and #17. Hole #17 using the alternate green made for a tougher approach to the green with all the bunkers surrounding the green.

But you can't beat the price at under $50 with cart for residents.

mens club tourney. 8:30 tee time pushed off 20 minutes late as usual. 5.5hr round. Unacceptable for a strong men's club! Course in very good shape for July! Some holes were swamps in the fairway- I thought the mayor said " no water please" to the taxpayers. Windy. Greens very good, slow as usual. Rancho is Rancho- still #1 on everybodies list. Still can't beat finishing off a good score with the easy 18th- can't reach in 2 anymore but find an easier 5 par ( don't ask Arnie). Oh, got a close-up view a few feet away from the " jogger".....lot's of plastic surgery.
