Played at 9am Sunday. I got off the list as a single in less than an hour and played in about 4 1/2 hours. This course drains faster than the other area courses. The greens rolled reasonably well considering all the rain on Saturday. Is $45 a lot to walk Big Rec or am I just old? ... I know ... both.

Played 11/11/09 - got right out as a single. The greens continue to be very good as they rolled true and held well struck shots. Not many unrepaired ball marks as golfers are finally repairing their ball marks. This is probably due to the fact that many LBC locals play this course. While not the toughest track around, it is well maintained and a great value, especially with the LB resident card.

Played Saturday 9/19 - half of each green had been punched, but the flag locations were always on the unpunched side. I always enjoy Big Rec - cool breezes, reasonable rates (especially with LB resident card) and easy to walk. I often play as a walk-on single and can usually get out without too much of a wait. Take advantage of the first 5 holes on the front side as 6 thru 8 are difficult par 4's and 9 is a birdie hole. Number 18 is a great finishing hole.

Played 9/16 with a 7:37am tee time. We got out exactly on time. Counter staff was nice and friendly. Tee boxes were in good shape. The greens were punched & sanded down the middle, flags were located ... Continue »

Played 9/16 with a 7:37am tee time. We got out exactly on time. Counter staff was nice and friendly. Tee boxes were in good shape. The greens were punched & sanded down the middle, flags were located on the areas of the greens that were not punched. The greens were still rolling pretty true and fast. We finished our round at 11:42, just over four hours is good for a walking foursome.

Played 8/31 course was in great shape for a Monday with all the weekend play this course gets. Greens in great shape and are fast. Was only in one trape and it was in good shape. Fairways are nice and green no brown spots. Tee boxes where a little beat up because tee boxes where still in same spot as the weekend.

I'm always impressed, given the amount of play this gets, just how good the greens are! There are many private and high end courses which could take a lession from Recreation Park. Generally the course was in very good condition, with the sand traps in need of a little work at times. The only complaint is have, which is always the case here, is the terrible pace of play. Also, it seems every time I play the Long Beach course, the cost goes up.

11am weekday tee time=snails pace. Know that going in so accept it. PAce picks up on back 9 for some reason- kind of like the mystery slowdowns on fwy. Course in good shape- greens as always excellent... Continue »

11am weekday tee time=snails pace. Know that going in so accept it. PAce picks up on back 9 for some reason- kind of like the mystery slowdowns on fwy. Course in good shape- greens as always excellent. People- plz fx ur BALL MARKS! Sand in bunker not crusted- pretty good ( as witness not victim). Is the #3 turn at Taladega missing? I swear it's most of the tee boxes, which are banked. Almost taking a baseball hack on some tees. And the ground is in bad shape- 16 tee is like hitting 138 yd fairway bunker. 6 thru 8 are a hat trick of tough par 4's, maybe toughest in LA back to back?
Always a fun course to play- best of 3 in LB.
