Played this past Saturday, February 11. Tee'd off at 6:15 am. As noted by a previous review, the course is soaked. However, I knew what to expect going in so I have no complaints about the condition.

Of all the Long Beach courses, Rec drains the best. There are lakes where there shouldn't be lakes at Skylinks and El Do is just a marsh. So, when Rec is in the condition it is in now, you know we have had just too much rain.

If you can keep it in the fairway and play lift, clean and place, you're golden. Greens are great. Veer off the fairway and good luck finding your ball. Hoping the staff can get our there early this week to mow what they can before the next showers. If it rains like it is supposed to, my group may just take a break. When you cannot keep it in the fairway, it just isn't much fun spending time searching for your ball and then trying to hack it out of that long rough.

I really like this course and have played it at least 50 times but to take our money today and send us out on this course was daylight robbery. yeah i know its been raining but the course was unplayable. anything that missed the fairway was deep rough upto 6 inches and you had to stand on it to find it. I understand cart path only so after 4 holes shoes were soaked thru and muddy. some balls got plugged in the fairway and you could only see the top half of the ball. Here's what the clubhouse should have said instead of making us sign papers that said I agree to stay on the cart path. Listen Golfers "Conditions are terrible due to the rain we have not cut the fairways or rough its basically a bog right now not a golfcourse Proceed at your own peril knowing these facts" So as I learnt at Skylinks GC several years ago, save your money give this course at least 3-4 days after a good rain day as it doesn't drain well. Oh, also include Meadowlark GC in this public service announment.

Played 12/25 at 11:30 am. POP 5 Hours An enjoyable round on a very soggy course. The fairways were muddy in more than a few , the rough was muddy and hadn't been cut in a while, making it very thick, up to 6 inches in spots, the fringe was soggy. Thankfully the tee boxes and greens were not. The greens were running medium/slow as expected because of the rain. It was cart path only and the proshop was out of pushcarts so we dealt with the long walks on the very wide fairways (and errant tee shots). I really like the layout of this course which is what keeps me coming back over the other courses in the area. A nice mixture of holes, green shapes and sizes, doglegs in each direction make it interesting. The first four holes are boring but after that it's great.

Teed off on Tuesday, 12/20, at 8:40 finishing in approximately 5 hours. Front nine was much slower than the back. I didn't expect much faster playing 5somes on a busy course. The greens were in overall good condition. They rolled good at medium/fast speed but were very firm. Full wedge shots were releasing. The fringe on the right side of the 11th green was being replaced with new turf but it did not affect putting. The fairways were in good condition with some thin spots but overall good coverage. The rough was fair to good with some thin/bare spots. The bunkers appeared to be in decent condition. The tee boxes were fair to good. Some a bit chewed up and mildly unlevel but playable. Rec 18 has an enjoyable varied layout with rolling terrain but is very walkable. The starters and the marshal were very friendly.

A worn but interesting course. Nice mix of holes and the only course in LB with some hills. Evidence of high traffic especially shows on the tee box where it seems very few bother to fix their divots... Continue »

Evidence of high traffic especially shows on the tee box where it seems very few bother to fix their divots. The fairways are OK but if you're in the rough you get anything from tall, wet weeds to unkempt hardpan. Play early for a 4-4.5 round, otherwise it's an all day affair.

Okay. The greens got WORSE compared to last week. Soft, fluffy and LOTS of bare spots. I don't think it will take a whole lot to get them back to their normal, great condition. I won't be back for... Continue »

We teed off at 5:30 with a couple of groups in front of us. Finished in less than 4 hours.

Played this past Saturday (July 30). 5:37 am tee time. Teed off at 5:40. Got around in 4 hours with 3 groups in front of us. Not bad at all.

Fairways are also as per usual. Same for the rough. No complaints.

Greens were fluffy, still, which caught me by surprise. However, they were medium fast even that early in the morning. Not very firm. I suspect they will be better this Saturday when we are supposed to tee it up again at 5:30 am.

Played Rec Park 18 w/a 5some on Sunday, 7/24/16. We had a 7am tee time, but started closer to 7:30am. After the first two holes, the POP was great. We finished in under 4 1/2 hours; I was amazed!!

The course conditions were just ok. Tee boxes were ok, some a little weird. The fairways were decent. Rough was typical of muni's. The greens, while putted decent, looked bad. Some had a lot of burned out spots, others had patchwork right in the middle of the greens. Tough to spend $66 on a course that isn't in tip top shape.
Was still a fun day with friends, and would recommend this course in about 2-3 weeks when the greens heal.

Played a twilight round at Rec Park today (7/21) and was quite excited returning to what I remembered as a nice, lush course from three years ago. Safe to say they should currently call it Wreck Park instead ... and yet strangely I still really enjoyed it.

The conditions are poor all around. The tee boxes are in abysmal shape. The fairways are very dried out, while some of the better grass is to be found wasted in the rough. The greens actually did have some speed to them but they're currently still recuperating from a recent punch, are sandy and are littered with scars of all variety. Sand is shallow and grainy. And don't forget those tee boxes.

All that being said, I can say conditions are slightly better on the back 9 than front, and again - I still really like this layout. The par 4s are daunting without a doubt, but the par 3s are fun and accessible. The last two holes here are a real treat (no coincidence they were also in the best shape). Bombs away from an elevated tee on 17, while 18 is a truly strong closing hole in all aspects.

When this place is in good shape, I'll be back much sooner. But for a twilight rate (w/cart) of $23 you can't really whine. Too late?
