Played in a tourney on Sunday, July 10. We started on time but it was slooow once we were on the course. Close to 3 hours for the front nine and 5.5 hours overall. And it was not the tournament that was holding things up. There were groups stacked up on every hole in sight and we did not see any obvious gaps. It was just crowded.

The course was in decent shape. There were some dry spots in the fairways but it was generally lush. The rough was lush and definitely a factor. The tees were okay with the notable exceptions of par 3 holes 5 and 12. Those tees were sanded but it did not look like much grass under there. Hole 16 was not much better. I was only in one bunker and it was fine. The greens were only okay which is too bad because they are usually the highlight of this track in my experience. They were okay on speed, slower than usual though, and pretty bumpy. I can't complain too much, I had one birdie where the putt was clearly going to miss the hole but it was knocked into line by some imperfection in the green.

Overall good service. The cart lady came around several times. They had a barbecue going next to the 10th tee which was a nice touch. The service in the coffee shop was good. All was appreciated because the course is busy with the good practice area drawing a lot of people not playing that day.

Play today in the heat. Thank God there was a nice cool breeze during the day otherwise the round would have been unbearable.

Greens were slow with loads of release. It was strange, they felt spoungy underfoot but instead of hitting a high ball to stick they would just release. That was even with those $5 golf balls. Greens were bumpy but they kept their line well enough. Bunkers have hard packed sand. Fairways had good coverage and even some bare spots were not really bare just grass cut a little too thin. Tee boxes were flat. Rough had very heights but still very fun and playable. Green complexes had good coverage as well, greens were the only down if you can call slow greens that ran relatively true a downer.

Pace of play was a blistering 4 hours teeing off around 12PM. Need to remind myself to ask for their specials to get better price otherwise $40 is the standard rate to walk.

Overall impressed with service. Saw grounds crew watering greens so that was probably why there were slow. Play here again? Of course. Expect them to really get into shape for the Long Beach Open this July 14.

I played my weekly 9-hole SCGA event. The course was slow but that is our fault. The tees were nice and cut tight. They were firm but took a tee well. All were level and had good coverage. only fresh divots were present. The fairways are drying and firming up. They have good coverage with only a few divots.

There was some random high rough but nothing too bad. The greens had great coverage and the sand has mostly worked in from last week. But the greens were very soft and spongy. they took spike marks and were very bump. I think this is in preparation for the Long Beach Golf Festival so when that comes around the course will be in great shape.

Played Wednesday. Greens are in OK shape and that is being kind. They were slow, bumpy and very hard to hold the line. The greens are recovering from aeration earlier last month but they placed a thin layer of silicate and dressed the greens. Hole 3 still has what looks like recent punching around the front of the green.

Fairways are in good shape; loads of good coverage. They did aerify the fairways so there not a lot of carry. No sand just loads of holes. Bunkers are well stocked with sand. I can affirm this only because I saw my fair share of bunkers that day. Folks please rake your messes. Rough is very thick and very bushy.

Pace of play was decently fast. We let a twosome get ahead of us and never saw them until around 16. We were a foursome 3 walking, 1 riding. Waiting for greens to heal up as well as fairways... should be good after the rains and a little more time to heal up.

Played yesterday in a 4some. We thought we had a tee time at about 10 am, but pro shop didn't have it listed. However, they got us out right on time. Nice recovery! Pace was good, no more than 4:15 hours. However, the course was in terrible shape. The fairways had been roto-tilled, with big holes and churned up grass. Clumps of dirt lay scattered on the fairways. So, when my tee shot was in the fairway, it felt like the rough. The actual rough was its usual brutal sticky self. The greens looked as if the outer rim had been re-punched and sanded in the past week. The ball did not roll true, as it hopped over and around bumps and loose impediments. Very difficult to judge pace and break of putts. The traps were much better, as there was actual loose sand to hit out of. The Long Beach Senior Am is in 2 weeks. Hopefully, there will be massive improvement in the course conditions by then. I haven't played here in several months. I'm a former Men's Club member. I've never seen the course look so bad. Some fairway bunkers have been relocated on a few holes. It didn't affect how the course played for our group.

Played in a 10:00am tournament on Saturday. I don't think the aeration of the greens is at a full swing yet. About a three-foot band just inside the fringe would be aerated, and never near the cup. The greens felt about a medium speed to begin with, and seemed to speed up as the day went on. Pace of play was a little on the slow side, with waiting on the first five holes and opening up as we got across the street. Although the rough was cut pretty low, the ball has a tendency to sink down and disappear even just off the fairway. I was seeing random golf balls all over the place in the rough, and it's easy to get confused on "who's ball is who's" with all the parallel holes and other groups searching in the same area.

I can never get into a good groove right away on this course. You start off with some short par 4s that lull you into thinking you're almost playing an executive course. But then you cross the street and you're faced with a couple of long monsters. I've never scored well on the front nine, always doing better on the back. This is even though you might hear music blaring from large parties in the park on the back nine, or dogs barking up a storm from the dog park, or in the case on Saturday there was crowd roars and loud PA from the Long Beach State baseball game.

The golf shop was very nice and helpful. Unfortunately, you can only use irons on the range. Only saw the beverage cart once on the back side, but the outside grill was going full steam at the turn. It smelled too good, I had to get a hot dog. An enjoyable round on a day with perfect weather. There's a reason why my club has City of Long Beach courses in the annual rotation.

It's Winter Conditions here at Recreation park. Thin lies but playable. Greens are rolling with medium speed. A few bare spots on two greens I recall by the collar of the green. Fairways are dormant but playable. Bunkers are decently stocked with sand and fluffy. Tee boxes are flat with decent coverage.

Pace of play was slowish. It was packed but the group ahead moved steadily. Play here again because the conditions are always consistent and you can expect a decent pace of play.

Played earlier this week. Managed to finish 18 in a little under 4 hours and the sun set. Greens running with med speed. Not a lot of bumpieness just need to pick a line and trust it to follow. Fairways are thinning for the winter so don't expect pristine. It's just playable. Bunkers are well stocked. Tee boxes are flat and level. Overall tract is in pretty decent condition for the winter. Pace of play was an added bonus.

For course that gets a ton of play it is in good condition. The greens are now cre but slower than they look. Pace of play was good, sand traps were consistent. Fairways were fine in this drought A challenge with some short par 3's to some long par 4's! For a public course although they allow 5 somes, it played fairly well.
