Fairway's, traps and tees were OK with a rating of 5 to 5.5. The course has some of the worst greens I have played on this past year (many bare spots, very inconsistent, bump-it-y, bump, bump, bump. Its a real challenge to two-putt these greens. I recommend a lot of overspin for your putts to hold the line. Play on this course Thursday morning was fast. Our foursome finished just under 4 hours.

Played Saturday morning, 6/13/15, with my monthly club. Crazy weather day as we started in cold misty rain and finished in bright sunshine. Wind not too bad and really didn't affect shots. Course was jammed with 5somes as usual and we started about 1/2 hour late, with overall POP of around 5 hours. As noted in previous posts, 1/2 of many greens are in poor condition with aeration/sod repair/whatever, leaving a lot of soft/patchy/bare green to play over if you are on the wrong side. Unaffected areas were in good shape and rolled well at medium speed. Fairways and rough were OK, sand in the one greenside bunker I was in was fluffy and deep, tees were level and OK, with par 3 tees pretty banged up.

I'd swear that American Golf continues to reduce green size to save maintenance $$. Greens on holes 4, 5 (upper), 11, 15, 17, and 18 look smaller to me.

I am usually a tried and true fan of Big Rec, played twilight 8 Jun 15. At least a third of the greens have a half or third of their surface sandy, plugged or amateurishly sodded over. The staff is generally on top of things but that day they could care less about people jumping onto the course on #2 either without paying or going through the starter and slowing up we paying / following the rules golfers. Called for the Marshal to address the hole jumpers / non-payers which was a complete waste of our time and his. Sadly, if you want to play on decent greens stay away from Big Rec for a few months, which is a shame really. If you want to pay for your round or at least follow the procedure by checking in with a starter and play with others who do the same, stay away from twilight golf at Big Rec.

Played this morning at 6:30 am. They sent us out as a twosome sandwiched between fivesomes, which was a bit unusual. Waited on every shot but still played in a little over 4 hours. Usual good kikuyu cover, fairway and rough. Not as usual were the conditions of the greens. About half the greens or more have lost half their surface. The Marshal said it was a fungus spread by the mower. Seems strange it would only affect half the putting surface if so. In any event, the bad sections had patchy grass with some transplanted turf. Other greens had fully puttable surfaces. The greens were much slower than usual on the good parts.

Played today. Greens look a lot better after a week or so after aeration. Actually only some bare spots and some thin spots on a few of the holes. That should change with time. Greens however are bumpier than what I am used to as well as running a little slower but that is to be expected. Fairways have good coverage. Rough is thickish. Sand in bunkers are the better quality sand and very consistent. Folks however rake your bloody mess. I am not your caddie and yet I am forced to clean a number of footprints. Why you don't clean up your mess it boggles my mind.

Pace of play was slowish since we played behind a group of high schoolers (Wilson) playing a tournament. Things started to speed up on the back though. Finished with plenty of light left. Green fees a bit steep for non residents ($38 to walk).

Conditions here are due to improve. And honestly the maintenance is off to a good start.

Played here on 4/23 for the first time in a few years. Thanks to GreensKeeper, I knew the greens had been punched, so I’ll leave out any mention of them. Overall, the course was in pretty decent shape. Tee boxes level for the most part, with a few unrepaired divots. My only issue was the condition of the course off of the fairways. It was really hit or miss. A couple of the lies I had we absolutely awful. Either scrappy, uneven Kikuyu, or hard-pan. I found it interesting that I saw several areas of the course that were beautiful lush grass. Unfortunately, some were areas that even the worst golfer would never be. It would be nice if they put less effort into those areas, and concentrate on the playable part of the course.

Played Wednesday morning, 4/8/15, at 10:15AM with GKer stickboy on a sunny, breezy day. We reserved on the course site for $53, but stickboy had an email special for those 55+ that got us fees, cart, and a burger at the turn for $39!! Course overall is in pretty good shape, but at reservation and while paying we were NOT informed that 1/2 of all greens had been punched/sanded only a few days ago. Flags were in the non-punched areas. Entire greens areas including surrounds were very soft. Putts through the sandy/holed areas were very slow.

Fairways were firm and lies generally good. Rough was cut short and not penal. Only scattered bare areas in fairways and rough. Sand in the bunkers was very good - good coverage and depth, very playable. Tees were good for the most part, with par 3s torn up as usual.

Burger at the turn was OK. Saw the cart girl a few times. Small range on mats. Putting green rolled well at medium fast speeds and had not been punched. POP was just over 4 hours as course was not very crowded. Saw a marshall a few times.

Played 3/20/15 with 3 buddies. Course was in good shape. The greens were fast and firm, despite the punch holes. Bunkers were nice and fluffy with good sand. FWYS were thin and good. POP was bad though. We walked and still stayed with the group in front of us in carts. Not a fan of the non-residence fees that they charge, which is the reason We don't play here more often.

Played yesterday. Greens were punched with small holes, but not filled in with sand. The entire green was punched; not just 1/2, with the flag on the untouched half, as has been done in the past. Ball still rolled mostly true and fast. Some holes have been slightly changed with fairway bunkers filled in and new ones made up to 50 yards away of old site. See #s 1, 2, 4. The green on #11 is still treacherous: left to right sharp break. Windy conditions, so, e.g., #5 played 2 clubs short downhill. Tough to keep ball from going off the back of the green. Pace of play was about 4:45 hours. Lots of 5somes. I was lucky enough to be in foursome.
