Victoria is like the ugly sister your buddy has but has pretty friends. There are a lot of better golf courses showing better conditions but the greens here are perhaps the best I have seen in a while. Played here last week. Pace of play was quick. Greens are in good shape. Bunkers around the greens are well stock so are the fairway bunkers. The fairways however talk about target golf, thin to bare dirt. Take this golf course as you will they say they found a suitable fescue to replace the dying grass but have yet to implement the changes. According to them they will start reseeding late summer. Personally I will only play here if this course is uncrowded or there are no other golf courses to play. There are a lot more suitable choices where even Alondra seems preferable to this course. BTW $20 twilight cart special. #victoriagolfcourse

Left work a little early Thursday to sneak in 18 holes. This course is very close to work, but generally I only play this after work a couple of times a year.

First the good - the greens, they were in very good shape, minimal ball marks, balls rolled pretty true.

The Bad - the Fairways...in fact, It isnt fair to other fairways to call these desert wastelands Fairways....so many bare spots. You should look at this course from Google Earth.

The Interesting - seems like everytime I have played this course I have had to deal with some very confusing wind. Yesterday was no exception.

The Cool - seeing the blimp in action off of #16

For $39 with Cart it isn't too bad I suppose, especially if you have the mindset of practicing your hard-pan shots. Most misses Left or Right on the majority of the holes will leave you with borderline unplayable shots.

This is target golf with a twist. What you think is a great drive may be rewarded with a bald spot for a landing area. In other words, the fairways are shot. I mean really... patchy. That is to say....no grass whatsoever in spots along the fairway. Don't get me wrong, tee boxes are relatively flat and lush. Areas around the greens and the greens themselves are lush and well maintained, it's everything in between that quite frankly is lacking (I am trying to be diplomatic here -- it's double talk for major suckage in the fairways.)

To be truthful, this time of year is NOT the best time for a review. The weather is cold and many courses go dormant during this time, but what I was to play on this day Sunday well it's quite frankly disappointing. Loads of bald spots in the fairway. Not just patches here and there we are talking spans of 20' x 20' crisscrossing the fairway of just plain hard packed dirt. I am no Superintendent but that place needs some serious aeration of the fairway to break up the ground and let some grass grow. Even weeds don't grow in these patches b/c the ground is so compact.

Pace of play is understandably quick. Nobody plays here. Finished 18 just after 12 with an 8:15 tee time. And is this worth the green fee? Well you be the judge. Pay $35 to play on relatively decent tee boxes and land is pretty decent greens and surrounding area; just mind where you land on the fairway you may just be hitting off some hard compact dirt. We were joking they should supply you a patch of turf to carry around with you so you can hit your ball off the mat if it lands on a bald spot.

My advice, stay away. Let them get their act together (Which I doubt but hey anything could happen.) I would seriously play this course during the later part of spring after daylight savings it will give the course a chance at becoming decent b/c then you can take advantage of twilight and not have to pay for the privilege of being frustrated not only with your game but the course conditions as well.

Teed off at around 11:20 on 2/4, a bit little late due to a tournament. The good: tee boxes and greens. The bad: fairways and roughs (large portions without any grass). Sand traps weren't bad but could use a little more sand. Finished the round just before 5pm, but 5 1/2 hours isn't unexpected.

Played here on 1/17/12 w/ Metsfan21. Pace of play was really slow, almost 6 hr round. Fairways were thin, as is expected, but the grass was green. Rough was cut really low which was good. The tee boxes were decent. The greens were really soft and hard to judge at times. The sand in the bunkers were non-existent. I still had fun at this course. I believe with a little more work this course could be a gem. Next time I may get a cart instead of walking it.

I have played over 800 different golf courses around the USA, and in my 50+ years of golfing I have never played on a golf course in worse condition! I last played here in 2001, just after the "renovation" and thought ... where did they spend the $$, because it wasn't reflected in the course. (Somebodys pocket I suspect) I told myself I would not play here again, but as I apprach the autumn of my golfing life, I thought I would try it again. MISTAKE!

Greenskeeper indicated greens were punched 4/25. NOT. They just punched them on 5/15. In all fairness, despite the punching and sanding, the greens were the best part of the course.

Shame on the greenskeeper here, This course is a disgrace! I would guess the budget for this course is similar to the other county courses(?) Why then is this place such a dump? When I consider the "ambiance", constant afternoon winds off the Pacific, absence of any real design features, coupled with the horrible conditioning and slow pace of play, I hope the next time I even consider coming back, I take the time to re-read my review.

I'm pretty much what you would call a Kim Kardashian of non-famous people.. No I don't have junk in my trunk (golf clubs take a lot of space)... or am I THAT annoying... but I do love attention and tend to blast on my facebook account or wherever on cyberspace of my whereabouts... If you must know, yesterday I went to work and then jamba juice in Manhattan Beach, and then.. can you keep a secret? I went to Victoria Golf Course. None of my 2 facebook friends knew of my whereabouts. d%mn ! This place makes Willowick look like a PGA West type golf course.. It is the mother of all dog tracks.. I had a hard time finding a patch of grass to hit my ball in the fairways, it was all covered with hard dirt. The greens itself was decent, still relatively slow but I guess in terms of playing on miles and miles of dirt, it almost seems like an oasis. Management needs to step it up. One nice perk was the dude at the pro shop who allowed us to hop on the 10th tee instead of waiting for some clowns who decided to play from the blues when they could only drive 100 yards. For 20 bucks we were able to finish 18 holes in 3:45, not too shabby, but I don't think I will be back again anytime soon.

Played the front 9 this morning and After 3 hours to complete the I realized I would not have time for the back 9. Pace was painfully slow. The greens and bunkers were in good shape and while they are making an effort to repair the fairways they are still full of large bald spots. I usually play here because its not too croweded and I can finish in a reasonable time, but not today.
