Played Friday, July 3rd. POP was over 6 hours!!! I realize it might be a "holiday" but how do you have a 6 hour golf round?!?!?! Greens were incredible, soft, receptive, smooth, and quick. Course is in good shape for the amount of play it gets. Nice challenge, but do you want to deal with the frustration of a 6 hour round?

Easily made an online tee time at Los Lagos for a Sat. AM 9:30, walking rate = $47. Check in guy sez we're pretty much on time ... more like 20 min. behind when I get to the 1st tee which set the tone for the day. With no marshal out, PoP was at 5+ hrs. with the usual front side back ups on the par 3's ... back nine went much smoother. Course conditions: in a nutshell, it's been better. Fairways a mix of mostly kikuyu but other grasses and weeds (and bare areas) abound. Had many poor fairway lies, rough in better shape but too many trees to navigate over there. Greens: some signs of aeration remain, rolling medium-slow, not exactly smooth. Bunkers wet from rain, was in two both were playable. Honestly, I was not impressed with conditions today and my rating will show it (and with $47 green fees, I'd rather drive to find a better track). Might be awhile before I play Costie again unless I can play early and read some better reviews ... being that the last review was mine, this could be several months. I'd sure hate to scratch this course off my list. Not recommended at this time.

Down to the OC again this weekend for a Sunday afternoon round on the Los Logos course at Costie, first time using GolfNow cuz my bro wanted to ride ... same $45 price as the Costie online time so why not. Bizarrely hot weather but a nice ocean breeze kept it bearable. Played here thanks to Weber's (my GK idol) recent review which was, as always, very accurate. Greens rolled true and were pretty quick. The entire course is as firm as can be ... balls releasing and roll out galore. Some Kikuyu rough around 2" deep to slow things down but it's mostly easy to play from. Bunkers were a bit crusty but very playable. Some areas of the fairway should be marked GUR which was more the exception than the rule, but those bare spots only popped up occasionally. PoP, as expected on an W/E PM round at Costie: an abysmal 5:15. One of those days you're out there just looking for shade, so hot I even broke out the umbrella and put it on the push cart ... officially makes me an old man said my bud. Brutal, dude. BTW: Starter told me they plan to aerate the Linda on 4/7 and Logos on 4/20.

I'm always impressed with the general conditioning of the two Costa Mesa courses, given the amount of play they have. I found the greens rolls very true and the fairways were for the most part just fine.

Was going to play Mesa Linda, but was able to get out on the "big course" so figured why not! Only complaint is unrepaired ball marks and some unraked bunkers, but that's the fault of golfers, not the maintenance people. Kudos to the super for keeping this course in decent shape.

Played CMCC Los Lagos for the first time on Saturday. It's quite a drive from Burbank but an OC buddy wanted to play it. Paid $52 walking and it's a very easy walk even though it plays fairly long. I have to say that I really liked the layout. No really beat up tees and aside from too many unrepaired ball marks on the greens (I fixed a lot) I was pretty darn impressed with the course conditions. Pace of play was an issue, which I was prepared for from prior reviews. About 5:15 with a 10:30am tee time. Two group wait on every par 3. Probably waited 25 minutes on the 7th hole (long par 3). Tough wait to hit a long iron. I don't think it gets too much play. I just think the layout is tricky to keep pace of play up. For example, the 4th hole is a 180 year par 3 coming on the heels of a short par 4. Then there is another short par 4 before a reachable par 5 and then a long par 3. That type of sequencing is always going to lead to speed issues. I bet the waits happen in the same places after 8am every weekday too. That said, I'd go back. The layout was a nice mix of holes and when you're walking, POP is less of an issue because you get a few breathers. Only real drawback was almost chipping in for eagle on #6 and then missing an 18 inch birdie putt coming back but that's my own d%mn ed fault. HA.

Played this morning at 7:45 with a buddy and was paired with a single. Total POP was 4 hours 20 minutes walking and only had to wait on the group in front a couple of times. Quite out of the ordinary for Costa Mesa as it has a reputation for some very slow rounds. Cart girl was out and about and check in was a breeze.

The course was, to put it succinctly, surprisingly excellent. Tee boxes and fairways both had very good turf coverage with limited divot damage overall. A couple patches here and there needed some TLC put most of those areas weren't in play much. Rough was much the same, solid coverage, good length for kikuyu (around 1.5-2 inches) with some deeper pockets here and there. Bunkers were very good with plenty of sand and it was easy to splash out. The greens had just been cut and were fantastic (except for old ballmarks... HOW HARD IS IT TO FIX THEM!!! ARRRGGGHHH!!) Downhillers were very quick and the greens were running very smooth overall. Very happy with the round today and great value for $35 in OC.

Had a three hour front nine this morning. Called the proshop after 4 holes; they said a marshall would come investigate. He never did. We quit after 9 and complained, in a very polite, courteous manner. This did not seem to register with the starter - his comment - it normally takes 5 hours. So if we only had one occasion that it was over 5 - then they are doing a good job. They don't care about customer service - we got the feeling if the round was 7 hours - they would have said the same thing.

played early today...and the greens were so bumpy with footpriints it was like putting on a bumpy road....course is in good condition though besides the greens...sand traps were consistant, pace was good...even had a ranger out there! a challenging course that makes you think and use everyone of your clubs in your bag. for a crowded public course it is one you should play.

After reading dcsocal's recent review I was expecting a real nice conditioned course here in lovely Costa Mesa ... I walked away a happy camper. Course is playing great, well, playing very nice at the least. Greens are indeed the highlight here on Los Lagos, they are fairly flat with mostly minimal undulation, and everything rolled true at medium speed, very consistent. Green Kikuyu fairways mostly provided decent to good lies while the rough can be a bit thin where the ball can settle, but that's what can happen when you miss the fairway here. I played from a couple of greenside bunkers, raked and very playable. The course is gently rolling slopes with a few doglegs, very walkable and nothing too challenging but tree lined fairways are it's main defense. Friendly locals and a fun watering hole after golf, which was needed on this 90* Sunday. Would play here again with no hesitation.
