Played 1/28/14 morning 7:05 am. POP was just over 4 hours. The overall condition of the course wasn't to bad, tee boxes over seeded and well maintained, fairways not to bad for a muni course, firm/dormant with different types of grasses and completely void of any rough, i'm talking zero rough. Greens were in excellent shape, firm, consistent, ball held its line on every hole (no bouncing at all). I don't know how they do it, considering how many rounds are played there daily. All in all Los Lagos was well worth the $33 green fee.

the pace of play is so slow...may just play somewhere else...they need to have a marshall that does something or spread out the tee times more....greens were great, sand traps inconsistant, faiways go... Continue »

Went over to Costa Mesa after work today. Normally I end up playing the Mesa Linda course on weeknights because the pace moves a little quicker and can get more holes in, but today I felt like playing Los Lagos. Used to play here a lot, but it's been a few years. Walked out around 4:30 ($16 super twilight walking rate) and headed right out to the first tee and was joined by another single. First few holes good, then several groups waiting on 4th tee (as always). Big back-up on #7, too. These par-3s here are just natural bottlenecks for whatever reason. Pace was pretty slow on the front and even though things were opening up on the back, I knew I wouldn't finish and quit after 12. When walking, that's a good place to stop because otherwise, you'll end up very far away from the clubhouse when it gets dark.

The course was in pretty good shape heading into the Men's city championship this weekend. Fairways and rough seemed about average with past experiences here. Lots of thin/bare spots around, but mostly pretty solid and playable. The greens looked great and were firmer than I've ever seen them for the upcoming tournament. Bumpy that late in the day as expected, but rolling at nice speeds. The bunkers looked great. I didn't find one until #10 and the sand was good.

This is a solid course and the front nine is a pretty good challenge with a nice mix of holes. The prices are hard to beat for what I consider to be one of the better muni tracks around in terms of layout and conditioning, but the pace is generally very slow because it gets so much play and that always detracts a little from the experience for me.

Played Los Lagos on 7/23, walking on as a single at 10 am and getting paired with three other guys. I paid $33 to walk the course, which is pretty good in OC.

Played Los Lagos on 7/23, walking on as a single at 10 am and getting paired with three other guys. I paid $33 to walk the course, which is pretty good in OC.

Los Lagos has nothing fancy about the layout, but you get difficult par 3's, typically a little wind to deal with (especially in the afternoon), and Kikuyu rough and around the greens, which can be super tricky to deal with.

Right now this course is in excellent shape. I don't know how many rounds exactly the two Costa Mesa courses get, but I wouldn't be surprised if they are two of the busiest courses in OC. With that being said, they have incredibly great greens. The City Championship is coming up next week so the rough is getting grown out and the greens will start to be firmed up.

Unfortunately we played in 5 hours, which is typical out here. If you go into it expecting a long round, it isn't so bad.

For the price and the condition of the course I think this is probably one of the best values in OC.

Played yesterday @ 9:53 am. Greens are in good shape, running @ 8.5 with little ball marks and rolling true. Fairways were in average conditions, but overwatered with sand traps in fair shape. Tee boxes were chewed up and they could learn to move tees around every now and then. Pace of play was a solid 5 hrs. The golf course was packed for a Thursday morning. Cart girl came by a few times and the snack shop at the turn was reasonably priced. Pretty flat course to walk. $33 to walk is cheap compared to it's overpriced OC courses nearby.

Course is recovering from soggy fairways marked by ugly electric cart tracks as it dries out after rains in December-January. For example, on #2, the gully about 100 yards from the green was a mess a month ago. Looked a lot better. Greens were mostly smooth, quick but not too much. Pace of play about the same, still slower than it should be. Today, however, finished in under 5 hours, so improvement. Great course to walk as mostly flat. Easy to get out mid-morning as walk-on single.

It was more challenging then Meadowlark in HB. More fairway bunkers and the greens were faster(probably because of heat). One of the par 3 tee boxes was really torn up(back 9). Water doesn't show up for a few holes(later on in the front 9). Constant breeze kept us cool even though it was in the upper 90s. All in all a decent course to play at. (even thought I shot 107, haha)

While I have never been a great fan of this course, I must admit the condition of the course was excellent, in fact the greens were some of the best I have seen this year - anywhere! Overall, the entire course was in very nice condition.

Not too thrilled to take 5 hours to play. Don't understand why, there is not a lot a trouble, no forced carries, minimal water or other hazards? The best part of the round was the constant breeze from the ocean which kept the temperatures reasonable. (I was going to play Encino, which probably would have been 100+ degrees.
