I played here on Feb. 28. This is probably my favorite track in the OC, but it's a little pricey so I play it sparingly, and when I get a good deal, and this time we got a deal on GolfNow. The fairways here are dormant in the winter, but they are easy to hit off of and the greens, traps, and rough are always in good shape. POP was great, having only to wait once or twice and for less than a minute or two. We probably held up the group behind a little more than that on a few holes, when one of our foursome had an errant shot. Service was good as usual. Overall, a good day.

Played on 12/22, which was a Saturday but still had a very nice pace (4:15). Came as a single and was paired up with another. The course is quite nice, the features I appreciated the most were how remote it felt (despite being in the center of Irvine) and how varied the course is. Nearly every hole here is unique and offers a challenge as to the correct path to par. Some holes require layups (if you're not able to carry a 230y shot and stop it on a dime), and the elevation changes and well placed bunkers require accurate tee shots. As for the conditions of the course, on that day they were in very good shape. The sand was a little hard in places, and there was some spots under repair, but neither was an issue. I appreciate a course that's willing to challenge you, as its that more satisfying to score well. The staff is top notch, very friendly and helpful. Rack rate is a bit high, but there's always discounts available (Costco has one now in fact), which can quickly turn the rate into a bargain. Run by the same people that own Pelican Hill, and they don't treat this course as a red-headed step child, but as almost an equal (but then again, I've never actually played Pelican Hill before, perhaps they do treat them a bit better).

I think I can officially say that Oak Creek is my favorite of the overpriced Orange County courses (I haven't played Pelican Hill, though). Anyway, I teed off at about 8:30 on a drizzly Sunday morning and had a great day. Very efficient and friendly customer service all around. The course itself is really a treat. When playing, there is a sense of seclusion that allows a golfer to focus on the beauty of the layout. From a couple of the tees I felt the same sensation I felt at Pasatiempo in Santa Cruz. The feeling that I wasn't just looking at a golf course, but a work of art. The layout is pretty fair. Plenty of room to drive the ball. Lots of challenges around the greens. Course conditions from tee to green were good (for winter). The greens were smooth and medium speed on a wet morning. The pace of play was good at around four hours prime time Sunday morning. The rack rate is a little rich for my blood, but I will definitely play here anytime the green fee drops below the stickboy line.

Played 11/08 with a Golf Now online price of $42.00. That's the good news. The bad news was, we were right behind a tournament and the round took so long we finished in darkness and rain. The driving range and practice facilities are very nice - and at $17.00 for a large bucket, they'd better be! Overall, a pleasant golfing experience. Its far enough from any roads or industry to be a quiet course (Amtrak and Metrolink trains occasionally trundle past) and there are no houses surrounding the fairways. The grass on some holes is getting a bit thin but the greens were good and so was the sand in the bunkers I visited. Can't speak to the 19th hole facilities as they were closed when we finished. Would play again but not at the rack-rate - better courses for less moolah in the IE.

I played here Veteran's Day in a foursome, teeing off at 12:40. POP was fine even though the course was crowded and we never saw a marshal. Finished just before it got too dark to play. The course was in good shape, although the fairways are beginning to go dormant. The greens were fine, but overseeding of some of the tee boxes made some of the holes pay either short or long, depending on where they placed the gold tees. Sand in the bunkers was in good shape. Wish I'd have played better.

Played Oak Creek on a warm sunny Thursday afternoon, 11/1/12. I was looking for someplace to get out and stretch the golf muscles before the weekend, and I’m not a big ballbanger at the range, preferring to work on my game by playing. Got a good rate on GolfNow before I realized they had recently punched(!) – if only there was a website that told you about conditions and aeration!! Er, wait.

OC was in decent shape considering they had aerated greens the week before – greens were very soft and somewhat bumpy, but rolled well at medium speed. Many of the tees had been moved forward, and back tee boxes were all closed. Overall the course was somewhat wet from watering. Rough was lush and damp, making recoveries challenging, but many areas of the rough had little or no grass, so you were hitting of damp ground covered with a sprinkling of grass seeds.

Most of the traps were wet and very firm – I had success using more of a punch approach rather than an explosion. A couple traps were deep and fluffy, as noted previously by GKer lotrgolfer. It’s been a few months since I’ve played here, but the course overall seems more open, with some trees removed (i.e. at the elbow on #5 and others obviously trimmed back from where I recall them before). I like this track and recommend it frequently – it helps if you can get a break on their crazy rack rates. The course should be in primo shape in a couple more weeks.

Played in the SCGA Four-ball qualifier on 10/23. The course was in great shape with only a few minor things to report. A couple black tee boxes had been shaved down and it appeared the course was in the process of re-seeding those tees. There were also two areas (left of #5 fairway and right of #7 fairway) that were undergoing some grass treatment.
Tees and fairways were in very good shape with solid lies despite it being fairly late in the season. The rough has not been overseeded (yet?) meaning that it is very playable. The greens are the best part of the course right now and were running very smooth and not overly fast. The one complaint that I did have was that the one bunker I was in had WAY too much sand. The moment I stepped in the bunker my foot sunk in 3-4 inches which is not good. Spread that stuff out Oak Creek!! I will say that the normal rack rate here is about $40 more than I would be willing to pay but if you can find a deal, I very much recommend the course.

Played 9/26/12. Overall, decent condition, nothing spectacular. Would only play here again if I find a significant discount. ($12 for a small bag of balls). Fairways were for the most part a good shape, a little fluffy in spots, but well defined from rough cut. Greens were very, very soft. Approach shots to green left huge ball mark / divots. Were also slower than they appeared to be. Bunkers were ok, but dramatically different from hole to hole. I was in #2 greenside and bunker was filled with light, fine sand and had to be 4-6 " deep. Greenside bunker on # 5 was dark brown and much more coarse, and shallow base. Not sure what's going on there. Layout is average, some very short par 4's and three very long (210+) par 3's. Great practice area for long clubs and chipping. I only found 1 practice putting green, near 1st tee box.

First time for me playing OCGC.
I really loved the course. Challenging but fair. Overall conditions were perfect, considering the high heat of the period. Temperature was well over F100 during my round.
Played on a foursome with a decent pace of play. We finished at 6.15 pm and we passed through the very slow foursome in front of us at hole #8.
Right now car path only on holes #4 and #15.

Cart were provided with two bottles of water and we saw the cart girl at least three times.

Huge practice area were you can practice every aspect of the game.
