Enjoyed our game last week. Only complaint that I have is that the fairways are cut too close. You are better off in the first cut most of the time. Bunkers difficult but whats new! Please keep the grass longer. I will be back.

Played this course for the first time today. Normally avoid this course due to the price but got a decent price on golfnow and had time on my hands. The layout on this course is decent. A good mix of wide and narrow fairways, water hazards and undulating greens as well as flat open holes. The greens were soft and ran a little slow but it was also early in the morning so they were still pretty damp. The one thing I was disappointed on were the fairways. Lots of bald spots. Definitely not worth the rates, public munis had better fairways than these. By the way, they were starting to aerate several holes so beware if you plan to play here on the weekend. Hopefully thats a sign that they will be improving soon. The tee boxes were also uneven. Not sure if i would play here again. If the fairways improve maybe.

Played in the late afternoon/evening on Thursday, July 9, 2009, in good playing conditions - sunny, cool, with light breezes. Course is close to my office so I dropped in after work - lots of walkers at this time and course was crowded with play very slow. We only finished 11 holes in 3 hours. Greens were soft and showed the effects of a full day's play, with lots of footprints and ballmarks making for bumpy, slow putts. Very tight lies in the dry fairways. Recommended only for a casual round.

Played for $35 bucks this morning. The course is in pretty nice shape. I found a few areas that had some very tight lies on the fairways, but overall, NOT BAD!! The greens, as always, were in GREAT shape. A few of the hole locations left something to be desired but it did make for a more challenging round. Overall the course looked good. I can see where they are working to fix bare areas to keep the course in shape. The folks at both the clubhouse, marshals, and at the 19th hole were great. For the dollar spent (and using golfnow.com or other tee time sites), this course is a really good value during the week!!

First time playing this course, I've avoided playing as I've got the impression that it wasn't worth the green fee. So, we decided to get a super twilight tee time at 4:30PM on the longest day of the year for $27 on golfnow. We ended up finishing 16 holes by 8:30 when it became too dark, but would have finished them all if not for a slow front 9. Groups in front of us were ridiculous on the front. 3 walking senior's in front of us and a father and young daughter in front of them, yikes. It did appear the marshal did speak with them after about 3 holes and tried to speed up, and it worked a little bit.

Now for the course. I found the previous posts about the patchy fairways to be very true. The rough was patchy also, with some crabgrass lies and even some sandy patches. Greens were very slow, partly due to the very humid overcast weather, but also due to the greens themselves too. They had some obvious repairs on a couple of greens. They are quite undulating, with many mounds, valleys, and a couple two tier greens. Sand was actually a bright spot, quite soft. Really, the main positive aspect of this course is the layout. I think some of the holes are very enjoyable, especially the Par 5 5th, Par 4 6th. Despite the horrible yips I have with my ball striking, I enjoyed myself, but couldn't see spending more than maybe $40 for a round here.

I've played Rancho San Joaquin hundreds of times and the current condition of the golf course is probably the best I have ever seen it. The greens were very well manicured and rolled pretty well with the occasional "mysterious" wiggling. The fairways were in decent shape although bare in some spots. The tee boxes were very lush from the black tees. The pace of play was pretty good considering that an older gentlemen was in our group and struggled to hit the ball more than 100 yards at any given time.

For $28 dollars (Thursday after twilight) the price was right. The course was decent however I would probably rather play a course like Mile Square since they have a better rate. I would definitely advise someone not to play Rancho on the weekend due to 1) the pace of play and 2) the rate is outrageous.

I did my once a year play today. .......Nothing has changed since my last rating whenever that was. The greens were just ok. The fairways and rough....thin lies thin lies and nothing but thin lies....and I am not "lieing". We played the round in 3 hours and I paid less than $30 and I was playing golf. So all is not lost.

Played on Tuesday, 5/12. I've been reading reviews of this course and played because of an on line special. I was pleasantly surprised. This is not a great course but it also is not as bad as others have said. I found the fairways to be below average but playable, the tee boxes to be very good, the traps to be well maintained, and the greens to in excellent shape. Cart girl came by several times. We played behind a local woman's tournament and still finished in about 4 hours. Overall well worth the price.

I cannot, for the life of me, see why we have some reviews that knock this course so strongly?!? 35 bucks today from Golfnow.com. I got out with one of my regular playing partners at 8:52 AM, as a twosome, right behind, GET THIS, the senior ladies league who were playing a TOURNAMENT!! We STILL knocked out the round in LESS than 4 hours, and the course was NOT in that bad of condition. The greens were in great shape with only a few morons who didn't fix their divots. The greens were running true and a bit fast. The ball was holding on the greens as well. NO issue with aeration on the greens. They have healed nicely. Everyone was great from Dee in the Pro Shop/Starter to the cart girl, to Brad at the 19th hole!

SO ....... I don't get it; either we've got some spoiled members or they think ALL courses should look and play like Monarch Beach Golf Links, (for less than $40.00) or they they don't know what a "muni" course looks like when it gets beat on by every hack in the OC. That said, this course deserves better than I've read lately. This course is DEFINITELY worth the green fees if you take the time to look for the good rate.
