Played Sat 5/7 morning with Golfmoose deal. Course condition was just okay - decent greens (except some greens as I wrote below), fairways some bare spots and some areas okay, sands that I was in were all very hard (hitting balls directly from sand traps actually worked better than hitting sands behind balls).

However, I saw something that I never saw in other courses regarding maintenance of greens. There was no maintenance alert on GK page. So I assumed that they were not doing maintenance on greens. Front nine, it was fine. Then, after the turn, the greens on Holes 10, 11, 12, and 15 (I think) were punched and top dressed with sand. Only 4 holes. I never saw any course doing that on only 4 holes. I wonder they were only doing those 4 as emergency measure. Pro shop guy didn't mention anything about that. It didn't ruin my experience of the round but we were scratching our head on this... weird maintenance strategy.

The course is short but do not underestimate this course. It is tough with all the tree lines and elevation changes and heavily guarded greens.

Other then the traps being firmly packed, for a 50 year old course this place has plenty to offer any type duffer. I'll be returning...

Played this morning in the wind, fun time. Course is in excellent condition. Greens smooth and fast, fairways, lush and green, sand bunkers, sand? No where to be found and now they are so bad you can't even putt out of them anymore, they should be circled in white and played as GUR, Some had big gouges in them and tire marks like the maintenance crew had been doing donuts in them.

Tee'd up Saturday morning reservations at 8:45 am didn't get started until 9:15 am. Heavy marine layer slowed pay for the first hour. Greens are in excellent shape. Didn't really care for the sane traps as there is no sand. Great layout and number 9 hole is beast too play. I personally like the back nine better than the front nine. No cart service and i didn't see a marshal on the course. We had some slow players in our group but other than that will come back to see if i can break 80's on this course. It's not that long but some challenging holes. Fairways in good conditions but rough areas could stand for improvement. Great service in the bar/snack area and the front desk. They kept things moving along. GN $35 for Saturday morning tee times can't beat it.

Decided to play here today. It's been many years since I visited Indian Hills, so I finally took advantage of one of their nice midweek hot deals on GN. $15 for a 9:53 time was well worth it. It seemed like mostly member groups going out when I arrived. I was paired with another single and we teed off around 10:45. Another twosome caught us while we waited on the 3rd tee, so they joined us. The course all day was stop and go. Sometimes we had to wait a lot and other times the hole would be wide open when we got to the tee box. Overall, it was a 4.5-hour pace.

I was pleasantly surprised by course conditions considering I've heard nothing but horror stories on GK the past few years. Things were quite green throughout the course. The tee boxes could use some leveling out, but the grass coverage was nice. The fairways were mostly quite good. There were some ugly spots here and there, but I almost always had fluffy perfect lies on the kikuyu turf. The rough was more hit and miss with a little bit of everything in play, but still pretty decent in the areas that mattered most (just off fairways and around greens). The greens were soft and rolling at medium speeds. I fixed my share of stray ball marks, but overall pretty good surfaces. The bunkers were the one real blemish. I was in a couple and they were absolutely terrible. Just rock-hard with no sand to work with at all.

I happen to like this layout with some fun target holes, lots of ups and downs, and tricky greens. It could use some renovation overall as it's a bit rough around the edges, but the conditions seem to be headed in the right direction. Based on previous reviews, it seems the fairways are about as nice now as they have been in a long time. Great deal for $15 and hopefully they can keep it at least somewhat decent throughout the year. We'll see.

I played here 2/6/16 and it was pretty decent. Not a 5 star course but definitely worth the money. However the men's club members (old white men) were very rude and obnoxious teeing off in the morning. I wish this course would do away with their men's clubs. All the morning tee times are filled until usually 11 or 12. Greens ran extremely fast on this course and fairways were in decent shape. Overall I give it a 6 out of 10. The staff is very friendly and management is very, very nice. Pace of play for us was 3 1/2 hours only because I got there when it was still dark and tee'd off before the moron men's club could go out.

Played Indian Hills on Monday. Teed off about 20 minutes late because of an early morning frost delay. The starter told us about it when we arrived and said they were trying their best to get back on time. The course was crowded and POP was 5:15. Had good company with guys I was paired with so the waiting was tolerable. The conditions were at best inconsistent. Very Forrest Gumpish, never knowing what you were gonna get. Nothing was in great condition, mostly bad to decent. Fairways were dormant and showed signs of the drought. The 9th fairway is like concrete. The greens varied from smooth and rolling good to very bumpy. Bring a few balls that are equipped with 4-wheel drive. The second green has been damaged by what looks like a bad mower, the front half of the green is unplayable. The green side bunkers range from soft and fluffy to no reason to rake, sand was just to hard. The course layout is fun, no 2 holes are alike and many elevation changes, which I like. The course needs a overhauling. Hopefully El Niño brings some needed relief. For 23 bucks with a cart, it was fun. I would not pay any more than that.

Played the Blues (69.7/125/6104) with RGM2525 in 3H on a Golf Now 2 x 1 special. We played through one 2some and were never rushed, teeing off just before 7am on 10/7. Par 70 layout with numerous fun, shorter par 4's. However, there are some stout par 4's and par 3's as well. Back 9 probably more interesting than the front 9 from a playing perspective. Old style, fairly tight layout that cuts through middle class homes. This course would be a beast to walk, very up/down hills. The distance from #8 green to #9 tee was about as severe as I have ever encountered on any golf course. The tees were some of the worst tees I have played on in the last 6 months. Very unlevel & fairly chewed up. You could practice downhill or sidehill lies off most tees that would match the shots you would later play on the very undulated terrain of the course. Both the fairways and the rough were thin but playable for the most part. Some lush areas, some hardpan areas. The "sand" traps were more like mud traps and were poor. The greens were fairly bumpy & medium slow with occasional bad patches. They putted about like greens shortly after aeration, except I don't think these have been recently. The Customer Service in the Pro Shop was great, they got us right out early a.m. before some locals. No drink cart on course. As we were leaving, when I returned the cart to the cart guy he said that we were not supposed to take the cart in the parking lot, "so don't do that next time". That will not be an issue, because trust me, there will not be a "next time". Recommended = no. Usually, I like courses that have numerous par 4's where I can knock it up fairly close to the green and getting a pitch shot up/down = birdie. However, while IH's conditions weren't as bad as Shorecliffs & were certainly better than Real del Mar, it made my fairly short list of courses that I will likely never play again because everything was well below average.

When I first started playing golf, I chose value over quality since I suck anyways and didn't think course conditions would make any difference. I just wanted to get out and play as much as possible for as little money as possible. They were offering their Player's Card where you pay $99 for the year and you get discounted rates ($20 anytime Mon-Fri and after 10 am Sat & Sun or $25 before 10 am on Sat and Sun including cart). This was a killer deal especially since I could only play Saturday mornings. This is where I pretty much learned to play golf so I must have some kind of an emotional attachment to this course. because I actually think quite highly of Indian Hills, especially in relative to the green fee. I have been playing here at least two Saturday mornings a month and some months play every Saturday here.

It seems like people complain about this course and rate it really low but I think it's fair. Especially for the price. Even if you are not a Player's Card holder, they have email deals all the time.

Course in General - This is a par 70 course that has quite a bit of elevation change. There are few holes where you are teeing off at least 50 feet above/below the hole and two holes with at least a 100 feet in elevation change. It makes the round very interesting.

Tee Boxes - Most tee boxes other than par 3s are lush. A few holes could use some leveling. They do move the tee markers back and forth every few weeks so if you are lucky, tee boxes are in really good condition. Tee boxes were in great condition today except for one par 3 which was quite chewed up.

Fairways - There are some patches where it seems like they just cannot get grass to grow. In one or two holes, these are right in the middle of the fairway and on few holes, they don't really come into play unless you mi sh-t your ball. I don't know why they can't repair these but it has been the same the last 10 months I've played here. However, these patches (they are not huge patches, maybe 10' x 10' at the most) are clearly marked as ground under repair with white circles. Other than these patches, the fairways are lush and in good condition. None of the dead brown grass I saw at Empire Lakes couple weeks ago.

Rough - Considering the limited number of courses I have played in my short golf career, I think Indian Hills has about as many trees as I have seen. The trees are quite close to each other so if you hit near one, it is most likely that you'll have to lay up. Except on a few holes, even if you hit into the rough, you will most likely be hitting on grass although the depth varies by hole. There are some roughs that are wet all the time for some reason.

Greens - For the most part, the greens are slow. I am not sure if it's due to the fact that I play early mornings all the time but they are slow. They do roll smooth and not too bumpy. Last month or so, the 1st hole had an infestation or something but seems to be better now. Even though I was probably one of the first five groups to tee off, there were unfixed ball marks.

Customer Service and Etc. - I don't know if they have one later in the day when they are busier but I have never seen a marshal on this course. Maybe it's due to the fact that I play in the mornings when it's cooler but I have never seen a beverage cart on the front nine. Last time I checked (several months ago before I started carrying a wet towel), half the ball cleaners are empty. They could use some extra trash cans throughout the course. The staff at pro shop are very accommodating. This course is located within a residential area and during the cooler mornings, there are quite a number of local residents walking on the course with their dogs. It may bother some people. Also, on a few holes, the houses are too close and you can hear the entire conversation that's going inside the house. I've once heard a lady yelling and accusing her husband/boyfriend of sleeping with her friend. Unforgettable experience. If you can live with these and feel like spending $30-40 during prime time, give Indian Hills a try.

*** Please note that my review may sound very favorable but if I had to pay more than $45 or so to play here, I would probably choose to spend a little more and I would have better choices. However, this course is definitely worth playing and quite enjoyable when it comes to under-$50 courses.
