Thanks to Bacspn808 for inviting me for a round of golf with him and his son during his practice round before the Junior regional finals (I think). Greens were spectacular. A little bouncy but ran very true. Bunkers and I hit a few were pretty well stocked with sand and deceptively hard looking. But when you hit through the sand it was fluffy. Was talking to the some of the maintenance folks about why so many waste areas were torn out. He said 1. for fire abatement. and 2. snakes and rattlesnakes. In fact we saw a snake (not a rattler running through fairway 8) Fairways are lush. Rough is thick -- stay out of it. It was fun and if not for my back giving out on me over the course of the round I should have played a lot better. :D

My feedback of April 18 was NOT fun, but, I am happy to report things are better. 1st off, the coots are gone. Almost all the remains of the coots are gone, greens affected are much better. Most greens are back to super fast and smooth and fast, Oh, I said that. The fairways with a couple of exceptions are fine,almost lush and very green. A couple are under repair, not a biggie. Everything else is usual SCGA terrific. Gotta say the inside staff is as usual great, the new guy outside is a bit grumpy a good guy just grumpy, maybe too easy to get into a joust early in the AM. I also have to say the fairways and rough are green, but for maybe water shortage or whatever reason thy have let the hillsides and anywhere other than the fairways and rough die. Dirt surrounds the golf course. It doesnt look very good, it cant be $$ as the place is ALWAYS busy. It must be a decision that we cant figure out. But as stated below by others this is the SCGA representive Golf Course of So Cal. It oughta be freaking Beautiful. We love the place, tough, fair, a great test of golf. But beautiful it aint right now.

Played Tournament on Sat 5/12. Scheduled to start tourney at 9 AM, we got off at 9:38. Play is usually slow on touney, but it was slower due to the foursomes ahead of us, finished in just over 5hr.

Played Tournament on Sat 5/12. Scheduled to start tourney at 9 AM, we got off at 9:38. Play is usually slow on touney, but it was slower due to the foursomes ahead of us, finished in just over 5hr.

The course was in OK shape, give it about a 5 out of 10. Tees were all fairly level with some having divots (sand em guys!), fairways were OK, some still have dry spots and some were thin with bald spots, some had divots, although some were sanded. Did our part and sanded as many as we could while we waited to hit our next shots. Apron on front right of #17 was under repair with some damage also right in front of that, muddy tire marks. Greens were fairly quick and true, but some had dry spots, not many ball marks. Bunkers were OK, hard packed sand and maybe some dirt mixed in. They were wet from the morning watering, couple had standing water.

Two marshals were cruising around and kept things moving, one of our 4somes were urged along when they fell half a hole behind, which was good. But I talked to one of the marshals about the others in front of our tourney, he said they had tried to move them along but several groups ahead of them were also slow, and overall they were half a hole or so behind. Oh Well, they at least tried, and took time to explain the situation. All-in-all good day for golf, beer was cold at the 19th.

Wow. The greens here are absolutely stellar. Unbelivably fast and pure. Play here now and you won't regret it. Rest of the course is more than acceptable. Some fairways are hit/miss, but overall, it's coming back into shape. The greens are so pure, it's been a long time since the SCGA has been in this good of shape. Pro shop guys are cool. Starter's outside are uncool.

Played the course today and what a difference. The Greens are fast and the fairways have finally came back after not overseeding last winter, the course played great. They are expanding the driving range and short game area and it's huge, can't wait till it's done. The coots finally went North, hopefully they do something about it next winter!!!

This is a difficult review, But, has to be said, SCGA is in almost complete disrepair.The greens are excellent, fast with crazy breaks and downright fustrating, but very fun, the staff has new faces but seem to be very customer oriented. Fairways are green, but spotty and muddy and wet and coot ruined and not sure they can fix them. Tee boxes are just OK, with lots of divots and coot crap everywhere. Rough is OK, but spotty. Workers were generally rude and never went out of their way to get out of our way. Weird. We know of several private courses that have 3-d pictures of coyotes spaced around the ponds and lakes and they do the job on the Coots. I guess thats too much of a bother for SCGA. Very sad. I hope they fix the place, We consider SCGA one of our FAVORITE stops, we travel a ways to play, but they gotta fix it up before we return. We want to return.

As a SCGA member, I thought we got cheated on this deal. SCGA golf course, since SCGA bougt it in 1983 (And I did play ther ethe very first week SCGA bought the place), has reputation to be a marginal conditions course at best. Depite their good looks, greens are usually slow and bumpy espicially in the afternoon. Coot' droppings are killing the greens on #10 and # 12. When I played in the PM, at least 100 fresh coot droppings on #10 greens. None fixed the ball marks on the greens. Their decision not to overseed with rye grass this season, in my opinion, made the situation worst. They should reduce the greenfee since they save at least $20K from not overseeding. Complimentary range balls to all the players when the courses are less than 100% would make $48 member greenfee easier to deal with. I played on 2/24th and it took me almost 6 hours to play! Unacceptable pace but noone seems to care. It will be at least early summer before fairways are decent again.

While NCGA has two masterpiece golf courses in Poppy Hills and Poppy Ridge, all the SCGA members like us has to deall with shady conditions course like SCGA. It's a dump, in my opinion.

Contradictory to previous email, I rather play Cross Creek with @#$%% attitude staff than SCGA any time.

drove an hour out there and my playing partners drove even more, 90 minutes. when you first drive up to a course especially one taht is supposed to represent your golf association you should be excited at first glance. we got the complete opposite feeling. when we saw the fairways, they looked like they were unsure whether to keep a fairway or turn it into a bunker. however, when we saw the greens we felt a little better and were excited to play on them, but that didn't happen. the staff let everyone there drive 50+ miles to their course to let them find out there was a 2 hour frost delay. on the already slow palying conditions, which meant that anyone with a tee time after 10 probably wouldn't finish. wouldn't give us our refund. all in all this place is a piece
