Although this course seems a long way from anywhere, it was worth the drive. The Champions course is currently undergoing some construction of new houses, but is still in great shape. This course has it's share of challenges, bunkers in the middle of fairways, severe brush and terrain gaurding the rough, undulating greens, and some water. Hole # 13 was a great risk/reward hole @ 319 yards (from blue tees) and was truly exciting to try and drive the green. This was an interesting round of golf and I would definately recommend this course to anyone willing to make the drive to Beaumont.

Too bad about the home counstruction, but still a great, tough layout.

The course is overwatered in my opinion. The fairways are soaked and easily damaged by carts and equipment. The constuction is an ongoing, neverending eyesore. When will they, at least, clean up the area on the course that was torn up for new cartpath construction. I refer to the area between second and third tees and seventh and eighth tees. The greens are way to soft and bumpy. They verticut every six weeks, which I guess is necessary, but do they have to do both courses at the same time? How about spacing one or two weeks so that we can have one course more playable? Traps are deplorable full of stones and no sand. Still, this is a great course and worth playing, but it's appeal is slowly dwindling.

I have played this course several times and I think it is a great course; however, there are so many problems that make the golfing experience less enjoyable. I played with a scratch handicap player the other day who had not been here for over a year. He could not believe how the once natural conditions have given way to a mass of boring housing development that encrouches on almost every hole. The views are gross and the construction will last at least two more years. The "walk in the Park" is gone here. He was one under going into the sixth hole when his ball landed in one of the mud/dirt/gravel traps on a down hill lie with a lip to go over. He knew in advance that double bogey was in the cards and the prediction came true. He told me he wasnt coming back here again. There isnt a single ground under repair sign or limed area anywhere on this course. They do not change the pins daily and when they do change they are always in the same position as previously located. The ground crew is obviously inexperienced and not properly supervised. Most of the damage to the course is due to overwatering and equipment grinding up areas of the fairway. They replace some of the bad areas with sod that is a different grass than the fairway leaving a patchwork type look. The management is doing a great job trying to make the rest of the facility work better, but they are missing the point as the golf coursse is what attracts people.

I played both the Legends and Champions courses today. The Champions has become a major disappointment due to the endless construction of over 4000 new homes that will surround and choke the course. The once pristine views have become eyesores. I stood on the elevated second tee and lost most of my interest in continuing the round. Golf is supposed to be played in a parklike atmosphere and housing should blend into the background. Instead of seeing green rolling hills, one now sees graded brown and tightly packed uninteresting new homes. The course is still good with the exception of the traps. I suggest avoiding this course if you come here and play the Legends. This is really a shame because I remember what it once looked like.

Played on 6/4 and the place was in perfect condition. Some fairways had some patch jobs but nothing to interfere with the scoring. Greens were smooth and fast as usual. This is a great place to play golf, though all the housing construction is having a negative effect on the course's golf feel.
