Played the ranch / vineyard (meadow) combo today in about 4.5 hours. Not sure why it took so long only had to wait on a few holes. Both courses are in very nice shape. Tee boxes were great with few divots. Fairways were not lush but not thin either, most had great coverage with a little extra roll. Greens were good, posted at 10.5 but I think they were a little slower. Most showed signs of repaired ball marks but everything seemed to roll well. Sand was a little heavy in the morning, it was drizzling when we teed of so that explains the wet. But they had good coverage and played well. It was an enjoyable round. Got an email saying they were doing a discount for the holiday, only paid $44, which is a great deal. If you can find a good deal on the course I would play, not really worth the regular rate.

Played my B-day round this afternoon at 1:30. Thank you Steele Canyon! Course wasn't super busy, warmed up and got right out. This course is becoming one of my favorites, there are 3 nines and the layout on each is quite different and interesting. Played the newly renamed "Vineyard" 9 which has undergone some renovation taking out some grass areas and replacing them with mulch, but it isn't in play. Then played the Canyon 9. Tee boxes: level, covered with grass and they have plenty of options when setting up the teeing areas for the day Fairways: well covered, mostly easy to play from, but did encounter some thin areas around greens which produced some tight lies Rough: mostly quite minimal, but will cause pause when in it Bunkers: very nice, the ones I was in were quite nice with good sand Greens: firm, but good shots check well, spun a couple well struck wedges, rolled quick and mostly true, as I played in the afternoon there were some greens that showed minor foot prints and I fixed a good share of ball marks on each green, anywhere from 3 to 7 POP: just about 3.5 hours Customer service: professional and friendly Layout: varied and interesting, some holes have multiple tee boxes that can make some holes play quite different depending on tee placement Overall: I'll definitely be back!

Played Canyon/Ranch at 12:15 on GN deal. Two putting greens and two chip/pitch greens one with a sand trap to warm up from. Hitting from grass today on the driving range which is always nice. I thought the course may have been in the best condition I have seen it in, but this only my third visit in the last couple of years. It was a bit windy in spots which makes the challenge all the better. Tee boxes: (played the whites) nice and flat, good to play from Fairways: well covered, always had good lies, not soft but the ball doesn't run out a lot Rough: not deep or exceptionally thick, but consistent and enough to take it into consideration Bunkers: I didn't find any but they look good and those in my group that did find them seemed to have little trouble playing from them Greens: rolled very well, pretty quick, with a couple real fast . . . they take a "soft" touch, I would have rated them a notch higher but there were still visible small tine holes from a semi recent punch thereof POP: pretty good really at about 4 1/2 hours considering the wind, drastic elevation changes, blind shots and tricky fast greens Customer service: we saw the snack cart a couple times per 9 and everyone else was friendly and professional, no "robo-employees" here just good people Overall: a good experience, good vibe all around, not a walkers course but it could be done *seeing now the rating I gave, if I could I would bump it up to 7.7

Played here on 1/22 in the AM on the Ranch and Meadow with two locals, very friendly guys. Cool when we started but finished in 70 deg weather. Sure beats the blizzard back East! Greens: excellent, smooth and medium to fast. Fairways: some thin lies but better than average for winter golf. Rough: 1 -3" high, the ball sat "down" causing some difficulty recovering (for me). Traps: new fluffy sand, hard to get out of when you have been playing on hard packed sand. POP: over 4 1/2 hours. Good customer service, good lunch menu. Worth the drive from Oside!

Played the Canyon/Ranch combo and check in was smooth and starter was good but there was no one out on the course. There was a group of 4 seniors ahead of us that slowed everything down. We played in about 4 hrs and 45 mins but it should have been half that time. From about the 5th hole we waited on every shot. These guys would forget clubs on the green, go moping back to pick them up, take a couple of extra putts, ugh.

Greens are very good. They are very quick. I wish they were a little smoother because there were a few extra ball marks out there and some that were fixed weren't fixed properly. They were on the softer side considering how well they were rolling. The sign by the starter said they were at 11.5 if that means anything.

Fairways and rough are ok. Signs of browning are there and firm so I think there is a little extra roll. Quite a few divots in the fairways but most seemed to be filled. Trying to hit out of the rough was interesting. Some shots settled down, some didn't and then there were the hardpan lies. So it's a mixed bag. Note there are undergoing a turf renovation project so there are a lot of workers out there. They were on the canyon side and seem to be on the first couple of holes and the last few holes. Not sure how long it is supposed to take but it a free drop for now in these areas.

Played the blacks and the tee boxes were ok. There were a couple of uneven tee boxes. Not too much in divot damage even on the par 3s. Some were a little firm, some could use a cut, etc.

Was in one bunker and it was in need of a raking. Others looked ok. Mine was heavy sand and others looked like softer sand.

Used the Costco coupon so for $40 it's a good value but I don't think I'll come back if it's going to take this long to play.

Played today, 10/19/15 on a GolfNow Hot Deal for $25 at 1:45pm. Got out just past 1pm (pro shop guy Alex let me go early) and joined a single who was making the turn. Played Ranch/Meadow combination as Canyon was undergoing maintenance. I really like this place. I posted a review a few months ago and wanted to check it out again today. They are doing a big water conservation project were they are cutting out 10% of the fairway areas (ala Carmel Mtn Ranch but not as extreme), and I cannot wait until everything is finished and the new plants grow. Like CMR, I would expect this place to look incredible in a years time or so, once all the new vegetation grows. I didn't take any pictures, sorry. The Ranch/Meadow combo had been aerated a couple weeks ago and the greens were fine. Tee boxes, fairways and greens were in good shape.

I commend the staff for addressing the bunkers and adding new sand but right now it is very fluffy and your ball plugs every time you land in one. I assume it will settle and compact a over time so your ball wont plug. Avoid all bunkers for now, and best of luck getting out of one with a good result!

Staff was awesome. Pace of play was under 4 hours on a weekday twilight. Steele Canyon will continue to be one of my favorite courses in San Diego! The superintendent is doing great work here right now.

Played yesterday using their birthday round coupon. Good deal for $20, cart fee. Played the canyon/ranch combo. Course was in very good good shape. Tee boxes and fairways were nice and green and never had a bad lie. Greens were great and rolled very good. My only problem was the bunkers. Look like the hadn't been raked in a while which left some difficult lies. Really enjoyed the round and the birthday special is pretty good. Let's you come the week before or after your birthday and play for just the cart fee.

Nobody out today on this jewel of a golf course. Played Canyon-Ranch. Greens on Ranch noticeably faster than canyon, but both in great shape. Canyon had been verticut - you could see the lines -- but did not affect the roll or line. Fairways beautiful, sand very good, tees good. Out as single on GN with a great rate and played alone, no one to pair me with. After reading reviews here, I know GKers take care of the course as they play. Especially when I get a great deal, like to empty the divot-fill containers in the cart and fix ball marks on the green. An employee was in front of me doing the same, so had to really look for something to fix. If you've played here, you know what a great layout it is. If you haven't, and enjoy a challenge, drop a dime and get a time. They're letting some irrelevant areas go due to watering concerns, but, man is it nice right now. Customer service is always outstanding. The happy hour price has gone up, $4.50/craft beer, but $10.95 for a pitcher after you're round. Hit 'em straight, or bring a dozen.

Played Steele Canyon on 6/27/15. My uncle is in from out of town and wanted to take him to a nice course around Coronado so we decided on the Gary player designed Steele Canyon. There are 27 holes and we played the Canyon Ranch combo. My favorite of the nines is the Ranch; the Parachute hole (all of the holes on the course have a name) is a great picture spot with your group much better than 18th green IMHO. Overall the course is set up really nice right now and the greens are exceptional. The fairways are green and the ruff is manageable. There are a lot of blind shots and no on course gps if you only have a range finder might want to download an app to see where the dog leg turns. The course overall is very challenging and was a bit more than my uncle and father could handle. Lots of carries and narrow corridors. If this course was a ski slope it would be a black diamond. There was no one in front of us all day until we caught a group on 17. We payed $79 each through GN. Cart girl appeared 3 times possibly 4. Would enjoy coming back here again lots of different ways to play the holes.
