Played just a couple holes walking the other night after work. Just wanted to report that all the new sodded areas are now open for play! It's amazing how well the sod took and the course has never been this lush. I can't decide if it makes the course easier or not. The placement of the sod in some places was genius as it stops some run off on shots that aren't very far off line. On the other hand, some rough grown up holds the ball and can make shots that normally provide good bounces some unreal chips/pitches around the greens (i.e. left of 5 and right of 13).

Greens are super healthy right now. Rolling smooth but a bit slower than usual.

Overall just a good time out there. Kind of crazy how good the place looks. Definitely worth a shot.

Green fees are donation based. What a concept. Staff were friendly and explained how things worked.

Seeing how they treat customers, I'm quite impressed and definitely will be back to play the actually course.

Played in a tournament at Goat Hill on Sunday, June 30th.

There are always improvements going on at the Goat and right now it's definitely some major work. There has been a ton of new sod laid in fairways and some tees that had become pretty chewed up and unlevel (happens on these shorter courses and Par 3s). It's pretty cool to see right now but for the next 2-3 weeks you just take a free drop from all construction areas.

As for the rest of the course its in really solid shape. The greens are running really smoothly, however they still seems a little on the slower side than I'm used to. In the morning especially when the moisture is still in the grass it takes a little to get it to the hole. On the flip side, it does help with the difficult greens.

I think the new improvements are going to make the course much more playable and enjoyable. If you've played the Goat you know that sometimes you hit pretty decent shots or have some small misses but the ball would bounce and roll into some tough spots. Now, with new grass, that will be minimized. Good for everyone!

With the greens in good shape and the rest of the fairways, tees and rough in good shape (while waiting on the new sod to take) the course is still a fun test.

I always look forward to playing Goat Hill. The price is right, never have an issue getting out early, staff is accommodating, and the course is just flat out fun to play, albeit a bit frustrating at times. You can hit some shots which appear to be great, and find yourself in an impossible situation to get the ball up and down to save par.

The prior reviews from the GK family were spot on, so not much to add relative to condition. I really was surprised the course was as playable given all the recent rains. Having new carts is a real positive. This is one of the few courses I take a cart, because it is just so much easier, which is crazy considering the yardage on this course.

I highly recommend to anyone who has not yet played here to give it a shot. You'll either love it or hate - no middle ground

Played in our Team GK Cup Match this past Saturday with an 11:00 AM tee time.

Goat Hill is definitely a very different golf course when it gets the amount of rain we've received. Typically it's pretty firm and fast but areas that typically were more bare and firm are now thick with lush grass/plants and it takes a little getting used to.

I think overall the course is in pretty good shape. The tees seem to be pretty beat up and since it's a shorter course with a lot of par 3's you get some decent divot damage. Couple that with the cooler conditions and the grass not growing as fast, a few tees needed some work.

I felt that the fairways were in pretty solid shape. Good coverage and the ball sat up nicely when I actually found the fairway. Wasn't in any bunkers (I think there are only 3-4 on the course) so can't comment on that. Greens are running really smoothly right now but are a tad slower than normal out there. In my opinion that's a good thing as the slopes on those little things get a bit hairy when it's faster.

Pace of play was awesome at around 3:45. New carts are a huge plus and the range and practice areas (four practice greens) are always solid.

It was a fun day out there with other GKers and it was cool to play the course in a drastically different condition than I'm used to.

Well written and comprehensive review by Sal. I also found Goat Hill to be quite interesting and much more of a challenge than the yardage or slope indicates. The 3 fairways I found were in good shape, a little wet but ok lies. Rough was penal. Beyond the rough was terminal. Target golf at its best. This theme was carried over to the greens as well. Greens are small but often have some serious slope especially experience by Jon on 17 where he faced a very slippery putt from the back of the green to a front pin. Greens are healthy rolled mostly at medium speed, occasionally medium fast which may had a lot to do with the prevailing topography--needless to say putts were tricky.
Bunkers looked ok. Tees pretty worn.
Had a really good time with Andrew my partner and our fellow competitors Sal and Jon.
!st time here but it definitely will not be my last.

Played my GK Cup match today with Jon (jpeairs85) vs. Andrew Z. and Gary 0. at "The Goat" with an 11am tee-time on a sunny, but cool day. I'll let Andrew or Gary tell you about the match, but it was a great time had by all. I hadn't seen the new Goat Hill since my first visit nearly 7 years ago, but my how the times have transformed this once dump into a legit and memorable track. Today conditions were good after some rains during the week and it only stands to get better.

Tee-boxes: Probably the worst aspect of the course. The black tees, where most people played to try and max out the shorter yardage of the Goat, were small and placed in odd areas of the box. The ground consistency varied and some holes were very difficult to drive the tee into. The ground was also pretty chewed up and uneven.

Fairways: As anyone who has played here before will tell you, fairways here are at a premium, however the fairway that did exist seemed to be in good shape given the recent rains. The turf offered good shot-making opportunities and plenty of roll. No real divot damage and we did play LCR to ensure no major issues.

Rough: Varying degrees of penal rough everywhere on this course and it got seriously thick in certain places. As the course and its layout doesn't really play in the traditional sense, bad shots are more penalized by balls running around everywhere in dirt areas and by massive sloping of holes.

Sand: Wasn't in any but there isn't much sand on the course. I don't remember anyone being in any bunkers today but I am sure they were probably a bit wet from the previous night.

Greens: The highlight of the round. They were both fast and slow (depending on what hole), but they always rolled true. These greens were both small and had some nasty slopes. A pleasure and and a real test for us today.

ETC: New carts that had good handling. Updated clubhouse with the essentials. An employee was manning the grill today and had some links cooking; tasty. More than adequate chipping, putting, and driving range areas. Staff was very friendly and a big thanks to Andrew for using his pull to get our round here. This place deserves a visit if you are in town.

I have never played a more polarizing golf course than Goat Hill. My friend and I love the course, while my bride just hates it ! I suspect that is fairly common for this place. (just look at the reviews by Sixpez and JohnnyGK.

First off at 6:56 am. Nobody there. In fact they had not even put the flagsticks in yet. (Got to #1 - no pin, so called and they came out and handled it) The greens are far and away the best part of the course, condition wise. In fact expect for the greens the course is not I very good shape. Many of the fairways have decent areas, but lots of bare areas as well.

Sand was good, tee boxes rather chewed up. Not level and many bare spots.

This place is just difficult. You can hit some great shots to the green and not be able to two putt. If you miss one of these tiny greens, good luck getting up & down. Playing from the "tips" this course offers some really challenging shots, particularly for those of us who do not hit 200 yard five or six irons.

The only complaint I had was when I played here last summer, it was $22 for a senior to ride, now it's $30.
