Played here Friday AM. Found out from the two regulars that we played with that the course has been taken over by a bank so the management company running the course is spending the minimum amount to keep the course playable. Of the two courses, the Ivanhoe is in better condition than the Lakes. The Ivanhoe is in average condition. Greens: best part of the course, smooth and holding. Fairways: I would say that 60% of the shots that stayed in the fairway ended up with a thin lie. Lots of divots but no sand bottles on the carts????? Some construction on the back nine as two new lakes were recently installed. Doesn't look like they are completed. Traps: no report as I was not in any. Rough: Lots of bare or thin spots. POP: just under 4 hours. There was cart service twice on each nine. I would not recommend unless you get a good deal.

Played Ivanhoe last week and I must say the course is in much better condition since I played here a few years ago. Had to stay away for awhile as the greens were in really bad shape and a lot of the course is dug up. Not sure what their plan is for these GUP areas. the new superintendent has done some great work in getting the greens back to nice, playable conditions. Still a mixture of grasses but they looked like they'd been mowed and rolled recently. No birdies on the day a disappointment as I had plenty of opportunities and putts rolled true so no excuses there! Patchy fairways and mostly low-cut rough but pretty green and the fringe/collar areas around greens were nice (made for a lot of great bump and run chips into one-putt saves). Bunkers are hard pan. Nice cart girl service with $4 16oz Pizza Port beers and Thursday 50 cent wings all day plus a few other cheap happy hour appetizers. Great bar service with TVs for sports too. Very cheap GolfNow Hot Deal times; I'll definitely be back soon!

Decided to try Ivanhoe on Monday after some friends said they played it recently and were impressed with the conditions. I now know not to trust these friends when it comes to paying conditions. I will start with the good, pace of play. We teed of just before 10 and finished in four hours.

Now the bad or maybe just mediocre. Tee boxes were poor and little grass coverage. They were flat and since most times you are using a tee it wasn’t bad. Fairways are very thin with something that looks like grass but not very easy to hit from. Greens were ok, many looked like they were a mix of different grasses. Most were slow and had a lot of bounce. I was in a couple of bunkers and they were filled with heavy wet sand.

A couple of things I really didn’t like. This was the day after a big wind storm so I expected down trees and debris. There was debris everywhere and not a single maintenance person for the whole round. Plus there was a lot of debris on cart paths near the tee boxes and not a single person before our group bothered to get out of their cart and move anything. I decided to move some of the debris so you can at least stay on the cart path.

I really enjoy the layout of the course there are a couple of blind tee shots and a few dog legs which makes the course very fun and interesting. The conditions make it almost unplayable. When I go to a course I take into account how much you pay to play. Today was $36 with a cart. I will not play this course again for more than $25 with a cart and maybe $18 to walk. If you don’t mind poor conditions and want a cheap round then play here. If you expect decent conditions I would avoid this all together. With the deal from Costco, you can play Sycuan and Steele Canyon for $40 each and they are both much better than this course. I really hope someone comes in and puts some money into this course to make it great again.

Golf course has be going down hill since the current owners bought the property. Tee boxes range from rough length grass to no grass with lots of divots. Fairways are thin with many bare spots. Greens look horrible with LOTS of bare spots and patches of several different types of grass which makes putting a real challenge.

Played the Blues (6736/71.9/127) Friday a.m. in 4 hours with locals Marty & Kevin. Made for a nice, relaxed round even in high 90's heat by the time the round ended, $29.50 including cart through GN. The POP would have been slower had we not skipped hole 3, because we were initially behind one of several 5some's I saw on the course today. So hole #3 was my #18 after I went back and played it later. 1st time playing here, I had read the previous reviews, so my expectations were not high. Decent traditional, old school layout. Both 9's end on a par 3, which is unusual. Carts are no frills, no GPS or even divot mix holders. Fairways are not well marked, definitely bring GPS! Additionally, no course layout on the scorecards, and the holes zig zag and there are a decent amount of doglegs where prior course or local knowledge would benefit greatly. Clubhouse & restaurant were clean, well stocked and the customer service, from the pro staff to the restaurant to the ever present cart gal were all top notch. However, as fore warned, the on course conditions were lacking overall. The tees were mostly Kikuyu shaved close. Did not look good in spots but very playable. Lots of unfixed divots on the par 3's. The fairways were mostly thin but had decent coverage. The rough was a combination of occasionally lush, mostly thin and sometimes hardpan. The traps were poor. The green side bunkers were hard and crusty, tough to play a normal explosion shot. The greens were definitely the best part of the course. Mostly smooth, medium fast and very receptive to holding irons. They putted better than they looked. There are issues around the edges where the Kikuyu is running into the green. They have not taken the proper measures to keep it out, and it is now 2-3 ft. into the putting surface in many areas. Lots of unfixed ball marks and occasional small bare areas. Both the location (within 15 miles of my in-laws) and the price made this worth a look see. Having played here, I would come back in a pinch if nothing better were available, but would not go out of my way to play this course unless the conditions improved dramatically. Far from great, but much better than expected based on previous reviews.

Fairways: better than average condition, not many thin lies. They were better than they look.

Rough: OK condition but many animal holes.

Traps: hard pan, very little sand.

POP: at 4 hours.

A friend suggested we try this course, as it used to be (many, many, years ago!) a solid golf course in excellent condition. Not any longer.....

Greens were, in a word, sad. Fairways not as sad, and traps not as sad either. Course design? Nothing special, although there are lots and lots and lots of trees. Pace of play was average to good, but that was primarily because this Final Four Saturday was lacking golfers.

We won't be back, at any price. Greens are so full of weeds it was almost embarrassing.

Pretty rough course. Played today for the first time and I can't say i'll be back. I don't mind a few things wrong here and there but Cottonwood has quite a few more. Entire fairways that are dead or thin as can be. Greens pock marked to oblivion. I didn't enjoy the conditions of the course but for the money ($17 w/cart), it kinda was what I was expecting. The staff was courteous and polite so that was a saving grace in itself. I did see the cart girl 3-4 times. Anywho I'd rather pay a little more and walk a course with exponentially better conditioning for the money.

Played Cottonwood (Ivanhoe) for the first time this Sunday, 4/14/14. Got a lunchtime rate of $24 on GolfNow, so I figured I'd finally give it a shot. Not a very memorable layout and the course conditioning was pretty shoddy - tons of crab grass and weeds growing all over the place, hard traps, etc. Also, seemed to be a bunch of construction type equipment strewn all over the place. Having said that, the tee boxes were mostly level and the greens were in decent shape and putted true. The best part of the day was the pace of play - wide open - and got around in 3.5 hours.

Overall, I won't be back, as there are better options for a cheap round of golf.
