Played 7-5-17 afternoon on a GN deal for $12.49 including cart, joining two other singles and getting around the course in about 3 1/2 hours with some minor waiting on the last four holes. Tee boxes were in descent shape, a little thin but mostly level. Fairways were mostly in nice shape , semi-lush with some thin areas but descent lies for the most part. Rough was cut pretty low along fairways and maybe 2 inches around greens. Sand traps were in very nice shape with a good layer of sand to hit from. Greens were a little inconsistent in firmness, some firm some soft, but all rolling at medium pace with an occasional bump. Old feel tree lined course that is fun to play.

Played her on Monday May 22 teeing off at 7:20 and finishing 11:00 so pace was fantastic. Lets get right to the good stuff.....The GREENS have fully recovered are were in excellent shape and fairly fast. I think these are some of the best greens of any public course we play right now. They were smooth, rolled the ball well, and held shots. Everything else on the course was in better than average shape and if you want to challenge yourself then you can always play the back tees. Great lay out and real fun to play.

Got out Tuesday 5/2 around 10:30 as a threesome plus a single. I was the only walker in the group and got a $30 non-resident senior rate, which made it a good deal. I believe this was my second time playing here since the makeover and while I liked the course before, I think the overall experience and conditions are improved. Overall the tee boxes were in good shape as a hitting surface. It may have just been the locations for the day, but I found myself getting a little annoyed in the front nine with the number of tee boxes unlevel just enough to get into my head. I particularly dislike unlevel that has the ball above my feet. It wasn't severe or universal, but enough to be annoying. It was less of an issue on the back nine. Fairways were good with more consistent surface than back in the day. I don't recall bare or overly thin areas, and the lies were good. The rough is mixed, and with the drought-friendly modifications one could as likely be hitting off dirt or wood chips as grass. The bunker makeover may be the most conspicuous change and in addition to being visually improved, some of them force more strategy into shots while others are just a beastly challenge, e.g. the deep narrow one in front of the fourth green. There was nothing pretty about the time I spent in that one and I should have done first what I did four strokes too late — pitch out backwards. The greens were a brisk medium quick that was amplified by the slope of many greens, making for some very challenging putts. On the whole, it is an interesting, varied layout in good condition. If I hadn't moved so far away from it, I'd have it somewhere in the rotation. There was a tournament somewhere out ahead of us, which may have been the source of my only other negative — the 5+ hours pace on a Tuesday. Definitely sluggish pace with much waiting. Otherwise, the cart girl came around often enough and I really appreciate that they have a good number of water stations around the course. It was warm and they were appreciated.

we played here yesterday teeing off at 7:30 and finishing our round at 11:30. I really like the variety of holes at this course. Short, long, risk, reward, doglegs and lots of trees. The greens are recovering nicely from being punch and should be in excellent shape in another week. There were a few all marks left unrepaired and a few patchy area throughout but a solid 7 out of 10 in most areas. Carts have GPS and they no longer allow fivesomes so this place is worth your time now. I hope it keeps going in this direction.

Walked the blacks Sunday morning with some friends teeing off at 8:32. POP was a bit slow at around 4:45, but the day was beautiful so it wasn't that bad. The course seems to drain pretty well, but there were 6 or 7 holes that were cart path only. The other holes they were requesting carts use the 90 degree rule.

All things considered with the rain, the course is in fantastic shape. Lush and green as far as the eye can see. Tee boxes were all level and cut nicely. Fairways were very consistent and lush. There were some soggy lies, and a few places with standing water, but were very nice to hit from. If necessary, we did play lift, clean and place to remove mud. The rough is thick and lush, and hadn't been cut in a few days so it was a bit long and penal. Traps were very good, with no water standing in any of them. I found myself in quite a few traps during the round, and all were beautifully raked and maintained. The sand was a bit heavier than normal, and I did have multiple balls that completely imbedded in the sand. The greens were great, but were very soft. They had cut them that morning and were running around 10.5, holding lines nicely without too many bobbles.

Service is always great at Los Robles. We saw the beverage cart at least 6 times during the round. Something to note when it's been raining...my wife played Los Robles the day before I did (Saturday) and because of all the rain the night before, they had closed down the driving range. It was open for us Sunday morning, but I called early to check and make sure. I have a feeling the range closes often when it's wet because they can't get the picker out.

Overall, I definitely recommend Los Robles right now. I can't wait to get back after it's dried out a bit!

Got a call on Thanksgiving from a friend who had an 11:30 Black Friday tee time. If he hadn't already had a time, i would not have ventured out as it's a notoriously slow play day. However, I used to play LRG more often back in the day but had not played there since long before all the latest renovations, so I jumped at the opportuiny to satisfy my curiosity. Bottom line, they've done a nice job of tidying and sharpening up the course visually, while making the playing conditions more consistent. Playing the whites, tee boxes were in nice shape with plenty of coverage and level — although I occasionally felt that my ball was a hint above my feet (right hander) — a very subtle and minor quibble. The fairways here have always had a tendency to get thin, especially this time of year, and to a degree it's still true. The coverage was generally pretty consistently green, firm (vs. hard) and with a lot of roll out. There were consistently good, playable lies, but many places you could see earth under the grass if you looked. I would not describe it as lush, but seems to be well watered. They've replace large areas with wood-chip-style landscaping so if you went too far astray, you played off of that. Closer to the fairways, the rough was green and not really punitive. They've added some bunkers and seem to have redone most of the existing ones. There are definitely some deep, diabolical bunkers out there now, many of which have high lips topped with inwardly rolling turf. It helps that the sand was well above average (okay, so it didn't exactly help me.) The greens were in very good shape and rolling fast. A lot of slope to the greens and some tough pin placements make for some very challenging, but generally fair, putting. Two young relatives (20's) of my friend filled out the foursome and it would be kind to say they visited a lot of the more obscure sections the course. The pace was around 5+ hours but was not unexpected and allowed our group to keep up. I don't like courses that charge a bump for non-residents and theirs is a healthy one, so I was a little taken aback by my weekend, non-resident, worst case scenario fee. I walk and carry, but with a cart it would have put me close to $70. When I eventually come back, I'll choose my time with that in mind. In summary, they've done a nice job. I've always thought it's an interesting and challenging layout, and now the overall TLC shows. It's not a dramatically different layout but it looks sharper and plays cleaner. I enjoyed the round and the chance to revisit the place. It's a bit out of the way for me, but I definitely would welcome the opportunity to play here again, albeit at a time with a better price point.

Got out Sunday morning, 10/23 at 9:04 with the boys. I was there a month ago during the Thousand Oaks city championships, and conditions were spectacular. Not sure what's happened to the greens over the last month, but it's not good. The tee boxes are all nice and level, but they're completely brown and dry, and look to be dormant. Fairways are still in great shape. Lush and green and are a pleasure to hit from. I wasn't in any traps, but they still look amazing and my buddies didn't have any complaints. Rough is in decent shape. Nice and lush around the greens, a bit splotchy elsewhere, but we're supposed to be in the fairway, right?!? The biggest concern are the greens. The practice green is in great shape, but the one's on the course? Not so much... The front 9's greens are a mess. I don't know if it's a fungus or what but it's not good. Bumpy, rough bare spots, sunken old hole positions. We watched putts bounce all over the place all day. The back 9's greens aren't as bad as the front, but they're far from perfect. I don't know what happened!! A month ago they were perfect. I went in to the proshop after the round to see if the guys (who are great, btw) in there had any idea what the issues were...they didn't. Underwatering them was the only thing that was mentioned as a possibility. It makes me very sad because I love Los Robles, but I'm going to have to take it out of the rotation. I can't recommend it right now.

Took Johnny's advice to give this place a try weeks ago and my group has played here the past 3 Mondays. We REALLY enjoy this place. It does not feel like a muni at all............nor is it in muni shape. Everything is rated well above average and the pace of play has been at about 4 hours. We all love the hole variety and lay out. Sure there are a few divots, unrepaired ball marks and bare areas but most of this is not the fault of the course. We played the blue tees yesterday and managed to score okay but the black tees are a real challenge for us. Get out to play Los Robles now while most courses are punching the greens and fairways.

I HAVE NOT PLAYED HERE FOR OVER 20 YEARS BUT HAVE HEARD GOOD THINGS SO MADE A TIME ON MONDAY WITH THREE OTHERS AND I AM GLAD I DID. WHAT A GREAT COURSE. I CAN'T ADD TO MUCH MORE THAN THE PREVIOUS 3 REVIEWS BUT I WILL SAY THIS. I MADE A GOLF NOW RESERVATION FOR $53PP WITH A CART AND WHEN WE ARRIVED THE GENTLEMAN IN THE PRO SHOP ASKED IF ANYONE WAS 55 OR OLDER AND HELLO.............WE ALL PAID $45. WHAT A TREAT AND WE WILL BE BACK VERY SOON. ONE THING TO NOTE, THIS COURSE HAS A LOT OF MATURE TREES AND LEAFS AND ACORNS FALL EVERYWHERE SO KEEP A CLOSE EYE ON YOUR BALL OFF THE TEE AND BRUSH THE LINE ON YOUR PUTTS. GREENS WERE FAST, TEES AND FAIRWAYS GREAT AND A VERY NICE LAYOUT.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
