Walked the back tees today 9/3/24 under cloudy skies in the high 60s/low 70s with a club and a half wind. Joined by 3 nice older gentlemen from the VC area. Our POP behind 2 tournaments was 4 hours 45 minutes getting off a little after 10am.

Decided to pick a course that wasn't punching, had cooler temps and had tee times available. Unfortunately couldn't snag a time for one of my buddies but enjoyed the gentlemen I played with. I had not played Lakes in 3 years trying to avoid American Golf run facilities. I just love the layout and staff here and have tons of great memories with buddies here.

I was shocked how poor the conditions were. The first two greens were the worst with pot marks and some major bumping. The greens on majority of the holes had sand and bare areas around the edges and greens like hole 9 they are losing major portions of it. The healthy parts of the greens were soft on approaches and rolling very slow maybe a 8.5 on the stimp. It pains me to rate the greens at a 5/10 but that is where they are at.

Many Fairways have dead dry grass with very thin lies. Playable but ugly to the eye. Rated 4.5/10

The rough and what is left of it had maintenance dirt plugs with many little irrigation mini flags around it. Rated 4/10.

Tees were mainly level, dry and crusty. Rated 4/10

Was in 2 greenside bunkers on 16 and 17 that were actually pretty nice with just enough sand in them. Other traps I walked by looked terrible. Rated 6/10

If you play for cooler temps and the bones of a course this would fit the bill but would not recommend the conditions at this time. Would need to see many good to great reviews to come back anytime soon. Just a shame as it has a strong challenging layout and great people working here

We just played River Ridge Victoria Lakes for a monthly tournament and this course "used to be" very nice. I was shocked with the condition it was in today when we played there. EVERYTHING is dead and dried out!! Tee boxes, Fairways, Rough!!! Brown and thin!!! And the greens were like putting on 1970's shag carpet!!! Super rough, bumpy and slow!!!! This is the worst shape I have ever seen this course in!!! For me, I will not be booking rounds for my golf group, Saturday Golf Friends, here in the foreseen future!!! And from what I have seen there is no discount in pricing for the terrible conditions!!! So buyer beware!!

Played 7/14/24 with a buddy we are regulars at River ridge. American golf has done it again. They have figured out a way to make this course mediocre at best again. It is the middle of summer and should be nice weather to grow grass but they have burned out more than half the greens and have let all the fairway grass grow dormant. Very sad what they have done to this course. They were not selling range balls at 8:30 am because the range picker was not working.

Played saturday 04/13 with a good group of buddies. We were lucky enough to tee off early and beat the majority of the weather. Course itself was as you'd expect from American Golf. Mediocre.

Played saturday 04/13 with a good group of buddies. We were lucky enough to tee off early and beat the majority of the weather. Course itself was as you'd expect from American Golf. Mediocre.

Greens were okay - bumpy and a bit shaggy. Very inconsistent - practice green was fast, actual greens were SLOW. But - with that said, they were very receptive and you could spin the ball as desired. I like to play the one-hop and stop chip and it was definitely doing that quite a bit. Boxes (backs) were hit and miss. #1-3 were great, then came some "meh", then there were a few that looked like they were abandoned years ago (thinking #10 & 12 specifically) and are turning into a goat pasture. Didn't find any sand, but playing partners said it was hard under a very thin layer of soft stuff to make it look soft. Could have been the weather, so wouldn't hold this part against them too much.

Will definitely be back...very walkable and easy to get a bit of exercise in on.

Played 9-13-23 early morning walking for $35 and finishing in around 3 1/2 hours as a threesome. Tee boxes were okay with decent coverage on most of them, and some thin and bare spots on others. Fairways were in pretty good condition for the most part with a few minor thin areas, but mostly good lies with decent roll out. Rough was mostly semi-thick with some thinner spots, and some areas that were a little thicker. Was in a couple of greenside bunkers that had a decent layer of brown sand that was nice to hit from. I did notice that a lot of the fairway bunkers had weeds growing in them around the edges. Most of the greens were in just okay condition, they were inconsistent in firmness ranging form soft to firm, rolling on the slow side and a little bumpy at times. They did have a sign in the pro shop saying the 9Th green was damaged, I guess they mean by damaged that it was in very bad condition with a good portion of the green being sand. the 10th green was only in a little better shape than the 9th and the 11th was very bumpy with some bare spots along the edges. I only play here about once a year now hoping the the condition will improve. Guess I'll try again next year.

Pace of play was great. Walked the 18 in under 4 hours. Fairways were green and there was always grass to hit from. Rough is patchy in places but is getting better. Sand was soft and easy to get out of.

Now the "other"...greens were rough. They're better than a few years ago but not great. 14 has a big trench under the grass where your ball just dies running right through the middle of the green. They aerated 9-11 and out the entirety of silverstrand beach's sand on them. Literally need a lounge chair, sunscreen and a beach ball cause youre not going anywhere putting on those. No mention of this at all. Not at the register, not at the starter, not in the "ambassador" driving around looking at the ground. When I called about it (since their website says they're not punching until the end of sept) they couldn't care less. Recommended they at least tell people and the lady behind the desk was flippant at best. Saw another group we knew on 17 (they were on 2) so we gave them a heads up...said that not a single person told them either...Plenty of time between when we called and when the group checked in. They also deep punched the fairways and fringe. Again, no mention on the website or in person.

As you may have read I have not been very positive about the conditions of this course and maybe those comments reached the right people as River Ridge has done a 180 on course conditions. Greens are back to the way they were and rival many of the local country clubs. Running smooth and fast. Fairway have nice coverage and provide goods lies. Rough is filling in and not very penal. Tee boxes are good and much improved since the last time I played. Bunkers still need a lot of work, but I've been told this will be addressed in the coming weeks. Glad to see this course returning to its previous stellar conditions.

Played in a tournament today on Lakes. Not sure any maintenance has been done since last weeks city championship. Tees had not been mowed, sand traps had standing water, little sand and weeds growing in them. Seems since the management doesn't care about maintaining the course, players don't either. Unfortunately was in several unraked bunkers, even though players walk right by the rakes. Fairways were decent, although they had several uncut grassy areas and/or weeds. Greens were uncut, bumpy and very very slow (maybe running at a 6). American Golf has one more year on there contract, and I don't expect them to do anything to improve the course conditions. Between Buena and River Ridge, not sure which course is in better shape. Save your golf money and play one of the other neighboring courses.

The greed of River Ridge's management was evident today. The lakes course should never have been open for play. Standing water or severely wet fairways and rough. Traps were muddy lakes. We damaged the course just walking (sloshing) through every fairway. Holes 11-13 were closed. May need a week to dry out
