Played Red Rock Arroyo public course on Wednesday in our 140 over 70 guys, 6 man scramble. Course was setup with way too much rough for our group. Almost every green was surrounded with rough from green to 40 or more yards in which for our group was a birdie killer. Course has a lot of ridiculous long separations between some holes, most fairways (in very good shape) had plenty of room but both sides the rough was just too thick and fairways pinched in two much for our group. I would not recommend this course for anyone over maybe a 14 handicap unless you like a very good challenge. I have played there before when the rough was not as thick and had a better time.

Played yesterday (9/19/23) and had a great time. Third off (6:45) and played the whites and should have played the blues but two of the guys I played with played the whites and the third of the foursome played the greens. Course starts on #7 (even the score card starts there) because they say the course plays faster. POP was under 4 hours, and never had to wait on any hold and after about the fourth hole never saw anyone behind us.

The course is in very nice shape, with soft greens and big fairways. Good sand in the bunkers and the rough is consistent. If you stay in the fairways, you will have a great round.

The greens have just been punched, but they are lush and in great shape. Fairways are fantastic and the rough is deep.

Pace of play was good and took us just over 4 hours to play.

Carts are in good shape and there is water on the course for players.

Driving range is in fantastic shape and practice off the grass is being allowed.

Absolutely a great track!

Played on Friday, 11/4, 9:56a, with John_T. Paid $80 with the Arroyo/Siena card. Cart was labeled and ready, easy check in, and the bar/grill was busy early.

Driving range: They are using TaylorMade TP5 Pix practice balls, will not be shocked if I start finding these on the course. They have installed a mat area and had it set for there. I don't know if that's just for the winter season or will be year round.

Course: Fantastic conditions. Tee boxes are mostly level, they allow them to go dormant in winter and they are starting to fade. I'm guessing they will be painted soon. Fairways were in pretty good condition. A few thin spots. The rough was up but there were patches of "dead" areas. I believe they reseed as it goes and did not shut down. There are some large aeration holes still visible in the fairways. The bunker renovation is completed, which reduced or elimination a number of bunkers. The new sand is deep, thick and heavy and the total opposite of what it has been for years. The greens were in outstanding shape. A bit soft with some unrepaired ball marks, but running as fast as I've seen them. There are some scary putts.

The only downside for me was an issue with enforcing pace of play, which is always an issue here with a 4.5 hours POP due to the amount of driving between holes (at least 3 long drives close to 5 minutes each). I understand we were playing as a 2 behind a 4, but the 3 behind us was waiting with us a few times. By the 4th hole, a couple of the guys ahead had stepped away to take calls, only to come back and finish out while the others stood around waiting, and an entire empty par 5 ahead of them. While we were in the 6th fairway, about 1:45 into our round (looking at least 5 hours), I finally saw a marshal and waved him over. I explained they were at least 2 holes behind now and he seemed ok with it. I think I finally broke him and the look on his face showed he didn't want to do anything, but he turned around and went up to the group. We arrived at the 7th tee to find the group waiting for us and they waved us through. Caught the next group on 10 and finished in a relaxing 4 hours. Here's the kicker, the pro shop can see where every group is and either didn't relay it or the marshal wasn't going to say anything. Endnote: There is a cart person on 18 waiting to clean the clubs. We told her to take a break, she had time. Ran into her in the pro shop and found the group we passed was just teeing off 17.

Played here Tuesday 6/21 with a 7:39 TeeOff.com "Deal" time booked about a month in advance. They offer three or four Deal times each day, and they vary wildly in price. This one was only $53 or so, while I think I saw others that went all the way up to $111. So if you're interested in playing here, look carefully and book early and you may find a very good price. Arrived around 6:45, smooth check in both outside with the cart attendant and inside the pro shop. When I said I didn't need to hit balls, the pro shop guy suggested maybe they could move me up, and the starter outside obliged, slotting me in at 7:07 with another single. Pace was pretty good at about 2 hours for the front nine and a little more for the back for a total of about 4:10. Saw the beverage cart at least twice and also water jugs were out every few holes. There is a cooler full of ice on each cart, and also two cups for the water jugs.

Conditions are really nice. Greens are mostly smooth, medium to medium fast speed and accept spinning shots well. They're a bit tricky to read and it seems more greens than is typical run away from the approach angle. (Either visual trickery or actual phenomenon, I'm not positive.) Fairways are good with some less-than-good spots here and there, but mostly very green grass in great condition providing excellent lies. The rough is the highlight among conditions, beautiful lush green, uniformly cut rye that's about 2-3 inches deep. Sometimes the ball sat up on top and other times it sunk down in. Obviously it was more penal when it sunk down in. Also the rough is so lush, you need to make a fully committed swing at the ball. I tried to just smooth a 4 iron for my second shot of the day (layup on par-5 first) and the rough turned my clubface over and I pulled it OB. I was in quite a few bunkers and all of them except one were great. The other one seemed a bit neglected and much more compacted, so I just played that almost like a hardpan shot. Black tee boxes were good, not great. Some are a little beat up and/or not level.

This was my third time playing the course. One of the big knocks is the disjointed routing, and it really hit home today with all the long, awkward drives between holes and the cart path also pretty much backtracks the length of an additional par 3. I seemed to remember the layout more fondly than I enjoyed it this time. There are some great backdrops provided by the nearby Red Rock Canyon and a few Strip views in spots. There are also lots of electrical power lines that sort of negate the good views in spots. (Looking at you, signature par-3 7th.) Overall it's a fine course but no real "wow" moments except maybe the 16th tee is quite attractive. I'm glad to see they're back to starting on No. 1 instead of No. 7.

The only minor gripe I'd mention is the GPS. About four or five times during the round, it somehow reset itself and started showing yardages for the private Mountain course instead of the public Arroyo course. Each time it took nearly a hole to finally figure things out on its own and revert to the correct hole. It also displayed some incorrect pin positions, which impacted the yardages because they are to the pin, not the middle. Hopefully they can address those GPS issues and get them straightened out.

I played here on June 6, 2022. I have always loved this course. The layout is fun and definitely challenging, but also can be forgiving and getable, as well. The course was in fantastic shape, as usual. They have everybody teeing off on the par 3 7th, for some reason, and have been doing so for a little while, now. I'm assuming it's too speed up play. The GPS in the cart worked great, but the carts were struggling with power and they advised to pump the accelerator numerous times to kick it into gear. I don't know if that had to due with the amount of use they are getting (not getting charged enough between rounds), or if they are affected by the heat. Yah, electric vehicles are great! :( The tee boxes are pretty good and mostly level. The fairways were mostly great, but some holes had some smallish areas that were struggling. The rough was plush, beautiful, and penalizing. The greens were immaculate and relatively quick. The beverage cart came around several times. The bunkers were fantastic! They recently completely overhauled them and it looks like it was well done. The practice facilities are some of the best in town. I just love this course and hope they continue to take great care of it, like they've always done. Now the the sister course (Siena) is in excellent condition, the Players Card is really going to pay for itself! I highly recommend this course and can't wait to come back.

Played on Friday, 5/27, with a tee time just before 8am. Paid $70 with the Arroyo/Siena card. This review may mirror mpisarski01's from last week but with a little added in.

Condition wise, course was excellent. Fairways were lush, fast, and firm. The rough was super thick and caused plenty of trouble. We actually found a few balls that apparently were missed in the earlier group. The newly renovated bunkers were still in great shape with plenty of sand. Greens were running slower than normal, about medium-ish speed.

Outside the conditions, everything else seemed a bit off from normal. The pro shop is almost empty of merchandise. The course now starts at the 7th hole, which is the closest to the clubhouse. Supposedly this was to speed up play, but our round was still the typical 4.5 hours I am accustomed to here. The change was to take out the long drive out to #1, which caused you to leave the clubhouse at least 5 minutes early to be on time. Unfortunately, the course routing has plenty of long drives between greens and the next tee, so I don't think it matters. Plus, you now start your round on a par 3 (and only signature hole) which seemed to cause a back up as we waited almost 10 minutes past our time to tee off. The carts are usually pretty good, but the GPS/entertainment system seem to reset after every shot and always tried to place you on the private Mountain course instead of your current hole.

Golf wise, I love Arroyo, but this time I was just happy to get done and leave. It may be a while before I venture out again.

Found a deal time for $83 the morning of which was much better than the $118 price it was the day before. I had played here once before and remember that is was a fun layout similar to Rio Secco so I was happy to find a deal. Check in was decent but what you need to know is the range is far away and they have a shuttle to take you back and fourth. When going to get your cart they have always had problems not having enough carts. We didn't get in our carts until 3 minuets before the tee time and they were very strict about only having two carts per group. We had a player than needed to leave early and they had a cart with only one working bag strap and they still would let us take a third cart.

For some reason they had us start on the par 3 7th (near clubhouse) which is followed by a short par 5. They said it makes POP faster but the fact there was 3 groups on each tee and the fact we waited on every shot the entire day for a 5.5hr Pace starting on 7 did nothing. No Marshall to be found and nobody in the shop seemed to care their goal was to pack as many players as they can on the course and the succeeded. Teeing off at 1:20 I didn't think we were gonna have to worry about the sunset but I was wrong.

Aside form the poor management the course itself was in fantastic shape overall. The fairways were lush and provided a real nice cushion for your ball. Rough was super lush and very penal, I almost missed the ball with my 4 iron as the rough just grabs your club and you are at mercy for the rough. Around the greens the ball seemed more likely to sit up but it was still 4-5 inches. The greens were in good shape, a little firm but rolled smooth and at a medium-quick pace. A lot of play and inconsiderate golfer had some divot issues but still nothing too serious.

Overall the conditions and layout make this course a must play but with the 5+ hour rounds its hard to consider this place at the top of the list unless you get a coveted morning tee time. Also to note that even though summer is here they have kept the prices high this year and per Rob1563 it looks like they wont be dropping them at all for the arroyo card holders. Expect 80-120 fees throughout the summer. Hopefully you can snag a deal time like I did as its a fun course.

Always a standard of mine, the Arroyo Course at Red Rock has now moved up a notch. Gone are the rocky, bare bunkers, they have re-done them with very nice sand and if people would actually bother to rake their heavy, deep footprints they may be among the best in Vegas. Same with the greens- smooth, quick, receptive enough, contoured, fair, but completely pockmarked with countless ball marks from the lazy clientele that refuse to properly repair theirs. The visitors we played with called them a "minefield". Hey, I can only fix a handful myself without holding things up- c'mon, people, this is a fine course, stop letting your presence vandalize it.
The rough was pared down somewhat this day which made it wonderfully playable (I hope that they keep it this way!). Yes, thick enough to impact your shots, take away spin and demand a decent short game, but not so long (as many times in the past!) as to slow up play by taking 2-3 people to look for your ball. As usual, there are few holes in it and I saw no bare spots in its usual lushness- somewhat rare in the valley. Fairways were again, as usual, just fine. Well-kept, green, good length with no more than the usual divots you find at most tracks.
Had a ball there this day and I was SO pleased to find the bunkers re-done so well, the rough not as penal, and at least one of the waste areas crossing the course was now replaced with grass (the 16th)- all wonderful improvements to help the pace of play without sacrificing the integrity of the course. Only drawback was a cart shortage making us stand around at the start of our day instead of hitting the range- but I can understand the increase in play with the new improvements.
Highly recommended!
