Played Tuesday and Thursday, 2/28 and 3/2/17, in the Las Vegas World Amateur (see my forum post). Greens were very firm, and rolled perfectly at medium-fast speed, with speed increasing somewhat as the sun and wind dried them further – you couldn’t really make a ballmark, and I think I repaired 2 or 3 old ballmarks during any of the rounds. Green speeds were consistent throughout the round, which was great, and getting the speed correct on these greens is the key to managing your round and score. Most of the greens are slightly crowned, and many are elevated above the fairways and surrounds, exposing them more to the wind and challenging players to hold greens and control their putts. We saw a few more ballmarks on Wolf on Day 4 (Thursday) – some of the greens had softer areas (were they watered?). The greens were still firm, although green speeds were fast on day 4. We had good lies in all the fairways; most of the old divots had been filled, either by players or staff. Rough was generally cut low and very playable, but further offline you are in the desert and lies are very chancy. Sand was deep and soft around the greens; balls could easily create their own depression, making recovery more difficult. Tee boxes were all level, even par-3 tees were in good condition. We saw the cart girl several times each day and enough water was available on all courses, as well as having snack shacks at the turn.

Played here Tuesday, 8/16 to kick off "GK Review Gurus Visit Las Vegas Week." I'd never played any of the Paiute courses, and seeing we have a GK Plays at Snow Mountain on tap for November, I wanted to play the other consensus favorite, Wolf. Waited out the GN Hot Deals until a day or two ahead, and got a good rate and was able to use 25% extra off GolfNow sent for my birthday. Planned to play by myself but after a 4-hour drive and checking in, the first guy I saw at the course was kg1791, which was pretty funny. We asked if we could play together and went straight out to the first tee. POP was whatever we wanted it to be, which turned out to be about 3:20. Ideal August weather with a nice breeze/sometimes gusty wind keeping the 100+ temps very tolerable.

As Kevin mentioned, conditions are excellent. You'd never guess it's late summer in the desert with the lushness of the course. Obviously there are no water restrictions here. Greens were smooth and quick, medium-fast to fast. Putts really rolled out a long way. Full shots stopped fairly quickly and barely made any ball mark, which I couldn't figure out why. If I had to guess, it seemed the greens were so mature and the grass so strong that the ball just didn't penetrate the surface much, but they were still rather soft. Both fairways and rough were very lush, except for just a few rare spots here and there. Black tee (7009 yards) boxes were good, but some were so wet they were just this side of being casual water. On those, it almost felt like I was standing on a big sponge to tee off. Sand was good.

I enjoyed the layout but I'd heard so many great things about Paiute over the years, I sort of expected something more memorable. I thought lots of holes blended together somewhat. My favorite hole was the par-3 8th with a giant, deep bunker right of the elevated green.

Played Tues. 08/16. While driving to the first tee I saw Mark (itslikeimsayin) arriving and we went out as a twosome. Course is in fantastic shape. Tee boxes,fairways and greens were very lush. Reading previous reviews about the wind conditions I played the white tees at 5900 yards. It is a little short for me but the yellows are 6500 yards which is just a little too long for me. I found it to be a wise choice as I enjoyed it much better. Highly recommend playing here.

Played on Friday, 1/22, with a 9:30 tee time. I wanted to play Snow, but it was not available and Wolf is my favorite at Paiute. We used the last of our DealCaddy coupons ($80 for a 2some, 2 coupon max per person), which saves $20 each from the email club rate.

Customer service: great as usual, dropped bags and they were ready after check in. Grabbed a cheap ($4) breakfast sandwich. Drink cart was around 2-3 times. Weirdest thing was this was the 1st time in 3 rounds the halfway house actually had hot dogs, but only 2, so the 3rd guy did not get one. I find it funny that a course staple wouldn't be ready. The included range was stocked and ready to go. Starter got us out early and we finished right at 4 hours, never waiting on the group ahead, and never seeing anyone behind us. Marshal was around about 4 times.

Conditions: Even better than last month on the Wolf. Tee boxes nice and level. Fairways lush with no thin areas. Rough was about 1-2 inches, not very penal. The sand in the bunkers was thinner than last month, but still better than most desert courses. Greens were receptive and smooth. I found them on the fast side, even though the Starter advised they were "slower for out here."

OVERALL: Paiute is a must play in Vegas and Wolf is the #1 course here (followed by Snow, my opinion only). Service and conditions never disappoint and cost is equal, if not a better value, than similar priced Vegas courses.

Played Friday, 12/18 with John_T, using a previously purchased DealCaddy coupon for $80 for a 2some (regular e-club rate is currently $60 each). We had a 8am tee time but we arrived to a frost delay. Typical Paiute service, bags taken at the drop and ready to go on the cart. Smooth check in with the coupon. Staff did great keeping everyone updated of the delay. Range opened at 8:20 and we teed off at 8:50 with a retired couple who are members. Finished in 4:15.

Conditions were pretty good for the recent cold spell. Tee boxes mostly level. Rough was about 1" and not very difficult to hit from. Sand was a mix between fluffy and heavy. Fairways were carpet-like, and just set up perfect. Greens were really firm for most of the round. Shots could hit at the front and roll 30 yards off the back, however, there wasn't any ball marks and they rolled fast and true.

Overall, another great day on the Wolf. The course makes you pay if you're a little off but it's a lot of fun.

The wind was howling at the Wolf this Thanksgiving! Lucky us we pick the two coldest days of the year to come here and play. Oh well! Despite not being properly outfitted for cold and shivering my way through it, actually managed a real nice round. I absolutely love Paiute and especially Wolf. All 3 courses here play different and each has its own feel. In my opinion Wolf is just an exceptional example of what is right in Pete Dye designs. For some reason I play so well on his layouts. ...minus one course with PGA and Stadium in the name that I will not mention! Everything is near flawless here, tee boxes, greens, rough, fairways. Sand good enough, have to remember any overly fluffy would blow right out. Very large and firm greens. Great service as always. Exceptional pro shop. I think I'm going to go here again in the spring/summer and play all 3 as I've had 4 rounds here but all have been in cold weather. Bravo Paiute!!! One of my absolute favorite courses.

Dispite the 20-30mph winds.....from a weather system moving out of the area the round was magical as always.

Course Conditons = A++ endless green moist fairway, level perfect tee boxes and awesome fast greens.

Service = A++ from bag attendent to starter top notch.

Value = $129 for WOLF on the pricy side, but competitive for top teir vegas...was thinking of playing TPC Vegas and Revere.

Played Sun last year and just had to retrun and play another course when visiting vegas....played from Yellow on WOLF (Blues) and felt the course was plenty long and challenging enough. I felt the course was wide enough off the tee for aggresive plays on driver on many holes, most holes had more room then first looks from the Tee's. Im sure all courses are fantastic, but comapred to SUN....WOLF was def the keynote of the 3.

Never disappointed. 3 outstanding Pete Dye courses. One of my favorite facilities in Vegas.

Never disappointed. 3 outstanding Pete Dye courses. One of my favorite facilities in Vegas.

All course are challenging but not unplayable. Plenty of scoring opportunities from somewhat generous landing areas. Plenty of risk reward opportunities for those that like to "gamble" a bit in vegas. Wolf is a little more difficult and can stretch to 7500 for those that dare.

Always in good shape from tee to green. Wind is most always a factor on the open desert layout. If you are fortunate to catch one of these courses on a calm day or with just a slight breeze then lady luck is on your side.

A lot of secluded holes only surrounded by the majestic scenery of the desert landscape.

Excellent practice facility for all parts of your game.

Can be a little pricey during peak season and it is about 30 miles from downtown.

A must play in Vegas. One of the best facilities in Vegas and will always be one of my favorites.

Played Monday, 8/10 with my high school buddy and GK'er williebeamon14, who was passing through on his way to Ohio. We paid $55, which is the email club and military rate, for a 7:30 tee time. They had a couple of full groups go out early and told us we were good whenever we were ready. Teed off a little early and cruised around behind a couple of 4somes in just about 4 hours. I'm sure we could of played through but saw no reason, it was a nice relaxing beautiful morning.

It's Paiute, which I think means "Top Notch." Every time I've been here, it's nothing but great customer service. Everyone is friendly and seems genuinely concern about how your day is going. Conditions were great. My buddy mentioned how incredible the range looked and knew it would be a good day out. The course was immaculate. Not a grass out of place. Level tee boxes, lush fairways, and smooth, fast greens. My only complaints (and they are little) was some areas of casual water from the morning watering and some firm bunkers. The greenside bunkers seem firm and a bit packed.

The Wolf is my favorite Vegas area course and a must play on a Vegas golf trip. Rates are a bit high for me to play all the time, but always worth it when I have played it.
