This is the course that you'll say " d%mn it's so hard, but it feels so good! phew~" after the round. The course design is challenging and the green is difficult to read and rolls really fast. You get to warm up with unlimited free range balls. If you want to play two good and inexpensive public courses in SD, first go to Torrey Pines, then head straight to Barona.

About 35 minutes from LV downtown. The practice facility is *free* and great because it has fairway bunker and two greens for chipping/pitching. The service is awesome too. The front 9 is still under construction so the perimeter are all mark OB. The back 9 is completed and more scenery. The perimeter is beautiful. The course has many dog legs, if you can control tee shot then there are many chances to approach w/ wedge. However, the green is TOUGH. The pin position is just ridiculous (on a ridge, right by the water, etc), you have to study each hole and approach very carefully. Simply put, this is course designed for shot makers. The overall condition is impeccable except the sand.

I will play again next time I come to LV.

The course layout is nice but the fairway/rough is not distinguishable. The rough is way too thin that does not penalize bad tee shots. Greens are smooth and roll true. I would only play if I get discount rate.

Played Dec 17, condition is awesome. It was raining for the first 2 holes but the Sun quickly comes out. The group in front is always 1 hole further and no one is behind us. What a great wknd round!
Things are really shaping up for the up coming buick inv. I don't really have much to complain except the tee box for the shotest par3. Greatest condition I ever played in TPS.

The course has good layout but is not well cared. There are many bare spots on the fairway and rough. On a dogleg par 4 the green is so bad that it actually feels more like an over-used tee box. The last time I played it took ~5.5 hours b/c one group was 2 holes behind . Will not visit again until i see some positive feedback.

Played Friars and Presidio on Thanks Giving. The course is fairly empty so I get 1 hour earlier Tee time! The fairway is in very good condition, no bare spots. Greens are smooth but too slow (slower than Torrey Pines). The greens here are special because my team mates and I always over-read every time I played here, today is no exception. Roughs have some bad spots due to lack of strict cart rules and are much thiner compared to Torrey Pines. Overall the staff do care the course and I enjoyed a fun afternoon.

Played July 14, 2006 for supertwilight rate. The pro shop charged me $30 but I told him the website says $25. He told me the website hasn't been updated for six years? This makes me feel not so right even before 1st tee. The course is well designed that has many challenging bunkers and small greens. But the course is really in a bad shape and the conditions are disappointing. The tee boxes are like divot mine fields, bare spots on the fairways (which wastes good tee shots), and the green have so many unrepaired ball marks (once I have to fix three ball marks alone the line). In summary, I would love to play again but not until they spend more time caring this course.

This is one of my favorite courses among the other 30+ courses in SD. It looks short from the scorecard but it forces me to really focus on hitting fairways and greens. A small slice or hook tee shot the ball is gone for good. The par 3 are a lot of fun b/c you will be hitting from one hill to the green down the hills. The handicap 1 par 4 is super fun b/c you need both good tee shot to carry the bushes and another perferct mid-long iron to hit onto the green 2 floors higher. I usually play on weekday afternoon so the pace is pretty decent. Sometimes I finish in 3/3.5 hours. The green and fairway conditions are usually in great shape. My only complaint is the sand, they really should fluff it more often. Overall I highly recommend this course.
