Back to El Do this Friday morning just after dawn, using Zing points for a freebie. Still waited on the first 5 holes before things opened up for a 4:10 round. Starter said peeps start teeing off at 5AM ... crazy. Anyway, Kikuyu grass holding up well ... thick and cushy in some areas ... never had a bad lie. Head to the rough and good luck cuz some areas are thick and heavy ... some areas very playable. Bunkers looked and played beautifully albeit some un-raked foot prints. Greens are for sure the highlight rolling fast and true, extremely soft and holding everything, and some are heavily pockmarked with poorly repaired ball marks.

All in all, easy walking, semi-challenging (tree lined fairways), and excellent Poa greens make El Do worth a visit for the low and mid hcp'er golfer. If you cannot hit a straight ball here, you're in for a long day.

Played El Dorado today. Early start time before 7AM.$39 for seniors. We were a twosome and had nobody in front and some hackers behind. Played like a private course. The course is in the best shape I've seen it in years. Ball sat up very nice in the fairway. Greens rolled very smooth with hardly a ball mark on them! Rough could be stingy. Very enjoyable. Early is the way to go here because they allow fivesomes (why oh why!) so you can get bogged down for a later start time.

Back to El Do this past Friday with a early GolfZing single tee time (got enough zing points now for a freebie) and was paired up with some swell fellows. We got around in 4:15 stuck behind a 4-some with 3 electric carts who played slow ... go figure, otherwise it would've be a 4 hr or better outing.

Anyway, the course is still in prime muni shape. Kikuyu fairways still very green in general and today the rough was NOT cut so it really helped to keep it in the short stuff (re. itslikeimsayin's post about the length of rough these days: come to El Do ... at least today). Greens were, as usual, excellent to putt on. Mostly flat but rolling semi-quick and true. Lawnboy and his staff are doing an excellent job.

Bunkers professionally maintained with soft, light sand (one I visited was wet from watering but still easy to play from). El Do's defense is the tall mature trees that line each fairway, so if your big dog is getting off the leash you're punching from penal rough and hoping for the best.

Highly recommended at this time.

Played El Do on Friday 6/16. Course is as pristine as a muni will come right now but the wait times are unreal. Teed off at 415 by 745 we were only on hole 12 so our group went and got 4 holes in on the front before it was too dark.

Tees: Level, tightly mown. A little spotty and quite a bit of divot damage.
Rough: They definitely water here, rough is healthy. Not too penal and the ball tended to sit up.
Fairways: Really good. Didn't have a bad lie all day. They are a little soft don't offer much roll out but thats not really a problem.
Bunkers: Soft, plenty of sand. Really easy to play from.
Greens: Some of the nicest I have ever seen at a muni. They had a double layered fringe, with a tight cut for the first few feet so putting from off the green was doable despite it being mostly kukillya grass. Smooth true and medium speed.

Overall despite the slow play I would definitely return and recommend. Nice parkland style layout, super affordable and great conditions.

Nice Sunday out at El Dorado today with nodoubles22 and some other friends for our GK Cup match. I ended up walking the blue tees while the others got carts. It was a very odd start to the day as there was June drizzle, but eventually it gave way to some very nice sunshine. We did get started about 15-20 minutes later than our 8:36 scheduled tee time, but after that we kept a good pace with the group in front of us also moving very well.

Conditions at El Dorado currently are very favorable. You'll find greens that are in very nice shape overall. They are not super fast, nor are they very tricked out in any way, but the roll is nice and the coverage is excellent. Should not have any problems holding well struck shots, either.

The fairways are in nice shape overall as well, with a few areas that are a little overly wet and soggy, but mostly good lies all afternoon. There are some thin areas around the greens but you won't find too much to complain about right now. Rough is nice - not too penal. Only was in one bunker today and found the sand to be in nice shape - although I would rather see a little less fluff in a fairway bunker. Tee boxes were probably the only area that could use a little work, but they were mostly fine with just a few hard ones to put tees into and just a little more fuzzy than they should be.

POP overall is on the slow side as they allow fivesomes at El Dorado, but that's exactly why we decided to have five as well to make it work better. Again, we never really waited for the group in front of us after we tee'd off at the first hole, so that was great. We saw the cart service once or twice and there's a nice snack bar on the back nine.

Not too much to write home about when it comes to the El Dorado layout, but it's fun and challenging enough to make it a good day. Water comes into play on a good number of holes, but there are no elevations to speak of on the course. Go give it a whirl.

I played here on June 5th at 1:00. It has been a few years since my last round here and I was pleasantly surprised. The course is very green and all conditions were better than average. The greens rolled true although were a little slow but not bad, tees were fairly level, and the fairways nice. Pace was great once we skipped number 8 due to a very slow foursome but once we did the waiting was over. For a muni this is a good test of golf and conditions are better than most so give it a try.

Recent reviews state that the course is in very good condition right now and I agree: tee to green it's right up there with any muni in the county. Really like seeing the definition in the fairways and rough, and the aprons around the green are immaculate.

Greens rolled as good as Poa can roll: medium/fast with only a few bumps from poorly repaired ball marks. Bunkers really soft, excellent sand and well maintained.

Highly recommended at this time. Go play!

Wow. I am amazingly surprised by El Do today. Tee'd off at 10am, as a single, paired up with a 2some and another singe; booked thru GolfNow, $47.99+booking fee. POP was an awesome 4:15, never waiting on the tee, and no one pushing us from behind. Had never experienced this before on an LA County course, on a semi-busy day. All I can say is WOW!! The course is also in excellent overall shape. Tees were a little hairy and growing. Lush, level, and probably due for a mow in the next day or two. Fairways were great. Good coverage of above average turf. Plenty of roll on well struck tee shots. Rough was good and playable. Thick in some spots, a little thin in others. But overall, very playable and not too penalizing. All bunkers looked good (I wasn't in one today - shocker!). Greens were good. While they rolled good, at med-fast speed, I think they are also due for a cut in the next day or two. Could roll really fast when cut thin. Not many ball marks, and decent surfaces to putt on. I was really impressed by the conditions here. I was expecting decent, and got great conditions! And the POP was great to top it off. I would definitely recommend at the moment. One of my favorite parkland style golf courses in the LA Muni system.
