The course was in the best shape I have seen in awhile (except the sand traps) the traps were lacking sand....top sand ok..but hard pack or no pack below...that was the only complaint...the rough was deep and you almost had to be over the ball to see it...must be getting ready for the LB Open? A great track with enough trees and water to keep it interesting...don't miss this course if you are looking for a reasonable green fee in Long Beach.

In some areas you have to be right over your ball to find it in the rough. The greens are fabulous. The course should be in great shape for the Long Beach Open.

Been a while since I've reviewed a course. Played here Friday (June 5) with my dad at 1:00pm. This course is usually backed up around this time so it wasn't a surprise that they were 10-15 minutes behind. We were paired up with a threesome of nice guys and got around the course in a little over 5 hours. The two groups in front of us were a hole behind which is why it was a slow day. Otherwise, we didn't mind the slow pace since we weren't in a real hurry.

As far as conditions go, everything was good except the bunkers and the greens. The bunkers I was in (I forget which hole) needs to be filled. Also, and this isn't the courses fault, the greens were bad because of all the divots that were not fixed. I must have fixed 4-5 divots per green. Please fix your divots, people! Otherwise, everything from this course was what I expected. I always come back here because the layout is great and you get to use all the clubs in your bag.

I had the opportunity to play El Do on Saturday morning (6/6). I have been El Dorado for a while now and I have to say that the course is in better shape than I have ever seen . The highlight of the conditions were the greens. The amount of roll out we were getting on our putts were something we were not accustomed to at El Do. The greens at El Do are typically the slowest amongst the three Long Beach courses (Rec and Skylinks being the other two), but on Saturday, they were faster than I have even seen out of a Long Beach municipal course. I was very surprised at how green everything looked and how soft the course played considering the severe drought. If you have a chance to go play El Do, I would recommend you do so soon and take advantage of the great conditions. With the Long Beach Open about a month away, the course should be in prime shape.

Been about a month since the last Friday off playing El Do, and after reading criley_4way's review I said 'go' ... was glad I did. Course in excellent (for El Do) condition right now, tee to green. Speaking of greens, the Poa at this course is as good as I've ever seen ... cut short and super quick. I don't have a stimp meter in my bag but I'd guess around 11+ right now. Some evidence of the sand criley mentioned, but not much. Just rolling fast and true ... hard to judge speed when chipping so many balls rolled several feet past the hole, so beware. I rated it 8 out of 10 ... really! Course was packed today (ladies day) and PoP was a bit slow (4.25 with a 6:45 tee time, $38 online walking rate) mostly due to the group ahead of us who was slow as molasses and had absolutely no sense of ready golf (slow players: let the faster groups play through or get a later tee time). Fairways have some areas that are thin, but mostly lush and full, same with the rough. Bunkers looked great and well conditioned. Course should be in great shape for the LB tourneys coming up in June/July. Get out and play here to enjoy it. And, best of all, no coots ... none! Highly recommended.

Played a 2nd round match today at El Do. We got to the course early and teed off right on time. We had no delays until 13 after which we had to wait on each tee. Still we finished in 4.5 hrs in perfect weather. The GM and asst manager came out to chat with us and see how the round went.
The tees were level and had good coverage. They were VERY hard and took some effort to get a peg in the ground. The maintenance crews were out but very respectful and kept the noise down when were were putting on 5. The fairways were full and lush but running a bit slow. Greens were quick down hill but hard to get a good line or long putt due to the remnants of sand on the greens. It was all large grains which usually had no impact but made downhill putts a challenge.

I was in 2 greenside bunkers and the sand was damp and firm but good. I was able to slide the club under no problem and get some spin on the ball. The rough was spotty with clumpy grass and some really deep spots but then again I should have been there.

The course is in good shape now and i think will be great for the Long beach golf festival this summer.

Booked a 6:30 tee time at El Do on a Friday thru the SCGA website, $40 to ride w/bud. We got around in 4 hours. Half greens punched strategy here (AmGolf), the 'good' half has come back from aeration as the holes are barely visible and everything rolling true. Super soft, holding a well struck ball with ease. The 'bad' half was rolling okay as far as punched greens go ... a bit slower but fairly consistent ... really was not an issue. They should be back to perfect Poa in two more weeks. Otherwise, fairways are semi-full with no real issues to speak of, just a couple of thin fairway lies. Rough was a bit long, wet in the morning, some patchy areas depending on where you missed the fairway. Was in a greenside bunker on 13, wet but good stuff in there. Not a coot anywhere but lots of trees! Recommended!

Played today, El Dorado has a $42 deal which includes cart, lunch (drinks extra) and golf before twilight.

Greens are in great shape. They roll pretty true with fast/medium speed. The rough is thick and very sticky. Fairways had pretty decent coverage. Bunkers in the fairway are hard-packed while the greenside bunkers are stocked pretty decently. I am not talking white sandy beaches but we are talking about decent quality sand.

Pace of play was pretty brisk for the front 9. We caught up to the group ahead finally around hole 12/13 and it was slow going then. Finished however in just under 4 hours.

Conditions are pretty solid here. Greens are in great shape. POP decent. Compliments to the staff there on running a tight ship!
