A joy to return to Eldo. I've always felt that this was the best of the Long Beach courses, although not my favorite. (Rec Park has always been my favorite and most fun to play ) But El Dorado presents the greatest challenge.

Very impressed with the course. Greens were particularly good. Quicker than I can remember them being. Fairways had good coverage, with a few areas needing attention. Just nice overall condition. Not in any sand, but it appeared decent.

I had stayed away from the Long Beach courses in part because I feel they are now over priced, but these days, every course is over priced. Still it was fun to return to a track that I've played many times over the years, and it has held up well and continues to provide a wonderful test of golf. Plus it's nice to enjoy a walker friendly course.

Eldo is a fun tract to play locally. Course is fair and offers a lot of challenge.

Greens were super fast and fun to putt. There were some bumpy areas but for the most part, rolled true.

Greens were super fast and fun to putt. There were some bumpy areas but for the most part, rolled true.

Practice areas are now open and lots of people using them.

Checkin was smooth. Proshop is now open indoors. 15 min delay for tee off but pace was decent.

Overall, a fun experience and certainly will be back.

I Played El Dorado Park in Long Beach CA today. I paid the normal full walking price of $44 despite knowing that the greens had been aerated. Typical aerations are at least playable to some extent. But the greens on this course were buried in a coat of sand.
The course, in my opinion, should have been discounted 33% because the greens were unplayable if you take your putting seriously. I figure that a golf course should only charge normal pricing if the course is 100% playable. In this case the tee box and fairways were playable (I don't count the rough because the rough is the rough) so I an not happy that El Dorado management disrespected their customers by charging the full cost to play a course that was only 66% playable.

I have played this course hundreds of times over the years. Right now it is in probably the worst shape I have seen it. Fairways are thin with some dirt patches. Rough is about the same. Greens are slow and bumpy. They look like a washboard with very un-even turf growth. Sand traps are hard pan mixed with mud- a complete joke. American Golf has let covid be an excuse to let their long beach tracks suffer neglect, meanwhile their rates continue to go up. I have been a long beach golfer for nearly 20 years and I will be taking my game elsewhere until they can get the courses back in better shape.

Played Saturday morning, 12/12, at 9am. Check in was easy and we teed off right on time. As the previous review mentioned, the fairways need some love. There are bare spots and thin lies throughout the course. It seems to have gotten worse since the last review. I played this course in May when the COVID restrictions were first lifted and it was in prime shape. It's a bummer that it's deteriorated a bit since then. The greens were decent and tee boxes were okay. The rates at the LBC courses have increased a bit and may not be worth the fee until the conditions improve.

Teed off shortly before 8am and finished in 4 hours. The greens were the highlight. They rolled smooth with medium/fast speed and held shots. The fairways had a lot of good coverage but there are many areas throughout that are quit thin or bare. The rough is mostly good with some thin/bare spots and long enough to affect shots but not too penal. The two bunkers I was in were a little damp but in very playable condition. The tee boxes were fair to good. Some a little unlevel others a little thin of grass.

Check in at a table in the doorway to the pro shop. Wear a mask in common areas. Single rider carts available. The driving range is open. Practice putting and chipping areas are closed. The starter calls out the group on the tee. Always enjoy playing Eldo and the staff is friendly.

Back out to Eldo, a golf course which has never treated me very kindly, and today was no exception. If there are "courses for horses" this is not one for this horse. Don't get me wrong, Eldorado is a wonderful track, and can be made to play very tough, particularly when they allow the rough to grow out. Eldo is a very fair, traditional track which should be right up my alley, but I always seem to struggle here. Course was in better condition than I expected, certainly the greens, which rolled well and had decent speed. Most of the fairways were good, with some bare/brown areas, but overall, OK. Tee boxes/rough, seemed inconsistent as to condition. My biggest complaint is the cost. I know that prices are up everywhere, but the Long Beach courses are getting pretty pricey. Still, a great time despite my poor play. Maybe I should try Recreation Park again, which always treats me more kindly.

Played early Sunday, possibly the fourth tee time. Nothing open but the pro shop when we teed off. Quick check in and they were using the loudspeaker to call groups to the tee, so the service was fine. POP was pretty good, right at four hours. The group in front finally sped up on the 14th hole which made the finishing holes nice.

The conditions were decent. I was disappointed because I expect more from ElDo. The greens were really good. No sign of the aeration last month, quite firm and decently fast. They rolled well. The rest of the course did not hold up as well. The rough was cut down and I was on dirt as much as grass when off the fairway. The tee boxes were scruffy generally and crowned on quite a few. The worst was all the bare spots on the fairways, with 10 and 16 being the worst examples that come to mind. ElDo traditionally has thick Kikuyu fairways and seeing big bare spots was surprising. I managed to avoid them probably because I avoided the fairways for the most part.

I like the course and the nice greens made up for a lot. Still recommended even with faults.
I'll be back and hope for more next time.

Teed off at 8am and finished in 3:55. The greens rolled fairly smooth with medium/fast speed and held shots. The greens have recovered from aeration three weeks ago other than slight signs of holes around the outside edges of some of the greens. The fairways had mostly good coverage. However, there are some dry thin and even bare spots scattered about. The rough was mostly good with some thin/bare spots and not too penal. The tee boxes were fair to good. A few were thin of grass while the others were on the long side. Like most courses the tee boxes are mildly unlevel. The bunkers were a bit wet but playable (I was in 3 greenside).

The driving range is open but the putting and chipping greens are closed. The cafe is open. Do not know if inside dining is available but there was a fair amount of outside tables. Check in and pay is at a table at the entrance to the pro shop. Masks to be worn in all common areas. The staff was friendly.
