Played Thanksgiving morning with a meetup group. We could tell it was going to be a long day by the crowd at the first tee. Fairways were pretty good- a bit dry but the extra roll was helpful - except when it ended in a bunker. Luckily all the bunkers had very nice soft, clean sand. The tee boxes were mostly level and not at all torn up. The greens varied from smooth and fast to very patchy, bumpy and full of marks. I don't think I'd want to pay $51.50 again to play there but the only real complaint was the round taking just short of 5.5 hours.

Played on 11/19. Course in very rough shape. Greens were about the worst I've ever seen for this course. Very spotty fairways. Lots of dirt areas around greens. I'm not sure what happened to the maintenance on this course, but it seems to be somewhat lacking these days.

I knew that The Wood was coming out of aeration but gave it a 'go' anyway, cheapskate that I am ($27 walking, 7:52 tee time got off 15 min late). Not surprisingly, it still needs a couple more weeks to get the Poa greens back into shape ... some bumps and uneven surfaces exist and they rolled at medium speed. Lot's of unrepaired ball marks, too (why is it that when greens are recently aerated, many golfers won't repair their marks ... I don't get it). Fairways a bit patchy, rough always a crap shoot. But the bunkers (was in four) were in very good muni-shape. I like golfing here, nice flat easy-to-walk layout. Long par 3's, short par 5's. Usually good, but it's only in fair condition right now. And coots ... did I mention coots? Good for nothing birds, grrrr. PoP was 4:30. I counted 15 players on par 3, #3 when we made the turn (two 5-somes waiting and one on the green). Granted, our foursome was not the fastest on the planet, but the group behind us was terrible ... more than a hole behind us ... talk about hack city ... these guys were really bad. No marshal on duty didn't help. Not recommended at this time, maybe second week of November it will be in better shape.

I might be easier just to say "ditto" to 24hourgolf's review, which was spot on. The course is never in great condition, but just seemed to be even more "shaggy" than usual. Maybe it's the time of the year? Greens were not good, slow and bumpy. I guess due to the recent rain and poor drainage, the fairways were very wet and provided no roll, and since this course is long anyways, it made for a long day.

The only saving grace was that it was not as crowded as I have seen in the past. I have experienced some 5 1/2+ hours rounds here, so I guess maybe the poorer conditions have kept people away? Not sure which worse ...... poor condition or 6 hour rounds?

Played today in a POP of 3.5 hours. Customer service was great at check in but the marshal they have working needs lessons in speaking with the general public (enough said). I was not terribly impressed with the overall condition of the course. It was completely soaked in most fairways and around the greens (no roll or bounce at all). Tee boxes were shaggy. Greens were slow and every one of them was marked with old divots (worse I have seen in S CA). They have the area around the 10th tee box under construction to install a new water line (total mess to walk/drive through) and thus the 10th hole is a short par 4 or a long par 3 depending upon your length. I personally would wait to play here again for a few months.

Played 9-17-15 with Stickboy and Nickesquire joined by to singles and finishing in a little over 4 hours. Tee boxes were in good shape with some minor divot damage on three pars. Fairways were in good shape with nice lies. Rough was in good shape along fairways, but a bit patchy around greens. Found one sand trap that had a thin layer of sand over very hard sand underneath. Greens were a little inconsistent in firmness but could have still been nice to putt on if it weren't for all the pitch marks that nobody seem to want to repair.

Walked the Blues (71.5/121/6729) as a 5some with Stickboy, RGM2525 and 2 others we were matched up with on 9/17 dawn patrol for $36. Amazingly, the POP was 4H, 10M. We were the 5th group out @ 6:17 am, barely light enough to see your ball. Separate discussion, but I hate American Golf's polices both on tee times in the dark and especially on booking 5some after 5some. I played this course often in the 1980's when I lived closeby, but had not played here in at least 25 years. I always thought the course layout and condition was worthy of a regular spot in my local rotation back in the day. I remembered most of the holes, it was fun visiting an old friend. The tees were decent overall, good coverage, level, few areas of severe divot damage. The fairways had good coverage and were good overall. The rough was lusher closer to the fairway, thinner away from the fairway. The kikuyu around the greens could be nasty to chip out of. The sand was moist and thick. I was in my share of bunkers and all were well maintained. The greens looked to be nicely maintained by the course. They could have been nice to putt on except they had WAY too many ball marks, which made them bumpy on long, short or medium putts. There were greens I could have fixed 50 pitch marks and not have made a significant dent in the total amount on the green. Thanks to Vince for setting up the tee time, enjoyable to get to play with you again! Other than the 5some issue, the customer service was good. Quality layout in decent, but not great condition. I would play here often if I still lived in the area.

I teed off Thursday at dawn with gk "gold vest" members rgm2525 and Nickesquire. There was a little confusion at the first tee, but the starter did a fine job straightening everything out and moving us on our way. The fairways, rough, and sand were muni-good, with decent greens on every hole except 2,3 and 8. Pace of play was spectacular, as we didn't have to wait at all and finished in around four hours. A really fun round .... I just wish my short game would have joined us.

Weekends at LA County courses are just not the place to be. My monthly club scheduled Lakewood at 10AM on Saturday, 9/12/15 - it was hot, humid, still, and slow, as the course always seems to be trying to cram as many 5somes ahead of the tourney as possible. POP was 5+ hr with lots of waiting in the humid hot weather. Have to disagree with Stew on conditions - greens are pretty hammered with old ball marks. The "new" #3 green (what is it, 2-3 years old?) is really bad, with both old and new pitchmarks and footprints everywhere. Fairways are generally more lush across the road, but dry and thin overall, and lies are chancy everywhere. Rough can be thin and dry or pretty lush and 3" deep. Sand was actually pretty good, and tees were also OK, other than #3 (shortest par 3; longer #s 5, 12, and 17 result in a lot of balls being teed up, cutting down divot damage). Just a long slow slog on weekend rounds.
