Played today with some old friends who had a mid morning tee time. Normally I would not join as I love to play early but not having seen these friends in some time I decided to go play. Fast check in and called to the tee right on time. Front nine went smoothly but slow played reared its ugly head on the back. We tried to speak to the group in front but was told to F off. So we called the shop demanded they send out a marshal and they did. The group got out of control with the Marshal and for the first time ever I watched a foursome removed from a golf course. We proceeded to finish in 4H 15 mins. Now on to the course. It is in some of the best shape I have ever seen it. And I have been playing it for well over 20 years. Tee boxes were excellent. Fairways green with good lies and great roll out all round. Traps were all playable and I heard no complaints and I was fortunate enough to never hit one. Greens were firm though I did repair a few divots but they would release shots that came in to hot. But they held well hit high shots nicely. And they putted fantastic. They had great speed but putts stayed on line and we all had a great round of putting. They have trimmed a lot of trees and bushes and cleaned out a lot of rough and are putting down a lot of wood chips around the course. Excellent customer service in the shop. Recommended and glad I showed up. Sr rate with County card was $38 and well worth it.

Played 8/30 8am tee time. I would give a course rating of give or take 6.5 Tee boxes were mostly flat with good coverage. Fairways had good grass too, only a few thin spots. Rough was hit or miss, some areas were dirt with weeds. Bunkers were inconsistent, some had correct amount of sand and some were very thin. Greens were rolling true but i noticed it was top dressed/sandy. Los Verdes usually has faster greens than this but it was a little on the slow side today.

The driving range, chipping area, putting green, restaurant etc. all were open and operated normally. One sad thing to point out. The amazing view of the ocean from the green on hole 15 is obstructed by nets they put up to prevent people hitting balls off the cliff. Same with tee box of the 16th hole. That's a shame! That was the same view you get if you play Trump National down the road that cost $500

Monthly group played at Los Verdes this weekend and the course is in fine shape across the board. We had four groups and took off at 2pm under blue skies that turned gray and windy by the middle of the back nine. Still had a great time.

Greens are running fast and true - the usual at Los Verdes. They're in very nice shape and always a very stern test. The fairways have nice coverage for the most part with some thin areas as well in the high-usage zones on this very busy course. Rough is a mixed bag but the bunkers that I was in seemed in okay shape, and the tee boxes were flat and level with mostly good coverage.

POP for a Saturday late afternoon was not very good at around five hours, but can't really complain because we were the last of the four groups so it was my friends in front of us doing the traffic jam. We had cart service come around a few times as well which is pretty rare for Los Verdes, but very appreciated.

Views and prices of course remain untouched at this public gem of a course that is showing its best side currently. Get yourself a tee time soon.

Played Verdes on Wednesday 5/24, 7:00 tee time. The course overall is in ok shape but to echo the prior review, the greens are really not great right now. On Wednesday, they were quite shaggy and slow, but the concerning part is there is some kind of growth that is spreading around to many of the greens that is creating a bunch of brown/orange spots almost like little potholes. They are at times 6-8 inches wide and makes the putting surface extremely bumpy and uneven. It’s not on all the holes but a good number of them (maybe 12/18?) especially noticeable on the back nine. Every other area of the course is playing fine. It’s a tough layout on the side of a hill so hitting fairways and getting an even stance is always tough. It would be a shame if they can’t figure out what’s going on with the greens.

Timing couldn't have been better yesterday at Los Verdes. Rain subsided around 10am and with our 11.20am tee time, crowds were none existent and we went off a twosome. Los Verdes has always drained well and often has its own little micro climate. Yesterday was spectacular, clear skies and sunshine Lush fairways and smooth greens, a twosome in front and a twosome behind us, it was as private as a LA muni course could ever be. Took our time, got a few beers for the back nine and cruised around in just under 4 hours. BTW the greens were not aerated as of yesterday the 29th March

Played in the men's club tourney today. We got off early and it was pretty cold. Turned into a beautiful day but it was tough to swing a club the first couple of holes.

The course was in good shape today. The fairways were not as dry as they have been. There was plenty of sand in the green side bunkers I was in. There was some higher stuff in some rough areas, such as left on 15. The greens were really quick today. I heard there was at least one 5 or 6 putt on #4. some pins were set in tough areas on the edge of slopes. It made for an entertaining round.

Played today with some friends who had a mid morning time. When I found out that LV was no longer allowing 5's I was in. Found a whole new staff now running LV and felt that customer service could have been a bit better. Same marshal at the first tee so that was nice. Very much like the remodel of the cafe. Course is in nice condition at the moment. Good coverage in the fairways and decent roll out. Some areas need mowing in the rough areas, as the wire grass is growing rapidly. Although I was told there is a new local rule that allows free drop from that horrible stuff. Traps were a bit compacted but playable. Tee boxes were all fine, though some of the par 3's need markers moved around as they are getting too much play. Greens were firm and fast. Had not seen them like this in a long time and made for a fun round of putting. Our POP was at 4.5 hours but did not seem that way. The groups ahead kept pace and the marshal was out taking notice. Started out cool then warmed up, got cool again but we were fortunate to not have any really bad winds. Glad to have been able to play here again. Though the drive home was not fun. One of the many reasons I like to play early most of the time.

Played here twice this week, both times early in the morning (6:40 and 7:00 am). Good service each time. They are opening the coffee shop by 6:00 am, with some breakfast business beginning to trickle back in. Pace of play was 3.5 and 4.1 hours so no complaints there.

The course is in okay shape with the exception of the greens which are very good. It appears to me that the fairways are seeing little water except near the greens. There are some clumps in the fairways as a result. More unsightly than a factor in play. Otherwise they are winter thin. The rough is cut down mostly although there were areas we had to search for balls. There was adequate sand in the bunkers I was in. The greens are running pretty fast. They are also firming up. I hit a high shot from a 7i into #7 that bounced from the middle of the green to the back fringe. They were fun to putt. The second round I kept leaving myself above the hole which is not a recipe for a good score here but did provide some amusement for my playing partners.

Gorgeous days on the course. On Tuesday, we could see four islands besides Catalina from the 16th tee box.

Overall, worth the price ($44 to walk during the week) and hassle of getting a tee time. Recommended.

Friday round at Los Verdes today with a buddy who happened to snag an early tee time the day before. We rode and played from the white tees after a good warmup session on the two-tier range. Check in was easy and efficient.

Besides the beautiful natural surroundings, it's always a pleasure to play here when A) conditions are good and B) the POP is not tiresome. We got both today so it was super fun, and a perfect early fall afternoon with blue skies and pleasant temperatures, with little wind.

Greens right now at Los Verdes are in very nice shape and rolling very true at medium-fast speeds. They held shots well, too. A lot of fun to play and helpful for a good putting day. The fairways have some thin areas for sure but mostly all playable, but there are some lush areas as well. Rough can be just about anything here so keep 'em straight.

Bunkers had nice sand in them and the tee boxes were level and had just enough coverage to make them good. Overall the course is in nice shape. Could it improve here or there? Absolutely, but you're not going to go home mad at course conditions.

And as far as the POP, was very surprised despite waiting on a good number of holes that we got to the 18th tee box at just over four hours. If you know the reputation at Los Verdes, then you'll know how dreamy it is to finish here in under four and a half hours. We also had terrific cart service 2-3x today and no issues with the carts as they're quite basic but get the job done.

All in all it was a pretty solid afternoon and also nice to play my best round in a while. Always look forward to coming back to this California classic.
