Caught an early morning round before work today. Haven't been here for a few months and the first thing I noticed was the newly adding artificial turf for the driving range. You're no longer hitting your ball into a dirt field. Much more appealing to the eyes. On to the condition of the course. It was meh~, even for Rancho. Most of the tee boxes were thin with lot of damage on the par3 holes (Blue tees). Fairways were just OK. Lots of dry spots and thin areas. Rough is inconsistent. Some areas were thick and if you get anywhere close to a tree, it's thin and you're probably hitting your ball off of dirt. Bunkers were pretty good, but no1 seems to rake here. Greens were receptive, soft, and quite slow. At least they weren't bumpy.

6.50am Tee Time, played with 2 singles and very good players, $48 for non-locas plus $12 cart fee if you share the ride. Most like to walk the course but can be a bit tiring due to some hills.

Rancho Park GC is known for slow rounds, however, if you are one of the lucky ones to get an early tee time then you will be able to finish the round as we did in 4 hours and 15 minutes.

Course condition with the current water drought was in nice condition, tee boxes were average, fairways were good and greens were decent and most rolled fine. Weather was crispy cold in the morning and warmed up nicely.

The newly added bonus is the range. After 25 years, the city finally decided to remodel the facility and it looks awesome. It's almost done, however, it's at a point where the locals can use it. For years, since I was 12 years old, all the golfers hit on old mats and into a sea of dirt. Now, it's very green due to artificial turf. It's a site for sore eyes for sure. Thanks Rancho Managers for the facelift.

Had a great time shot 82. Other 3 golfers kept in good pace. Thanks to Tom (who played from the black tees) and Nick for sharing their local knowledge of the course, especially the greens that made low scores possible.

Terrible, horrible, disgusting, depressing, sad, awful, and just unbelievable how bad a shape the course is in right now. They aerated the greens in mid-September, and it still shows signs of holes and bumpiness all over! Hardly any grass on fairways, no rough to speak of, the sand traps are barely playable and the tee boxes are destroyed. The same bad players flock to the course and none of them take care of it nor do they care, because they're all harried by everybody else to keep up the pace and they only have to move faster because they spray it all over the place! Not worth the money or time right now.

I have played this course a lot over the past 45 years and I can not recall in recent years the greens being as bumpy as they were? Just overall, I thought the condition was below average. That factored in with the pace of play - not good.

Too bad, because this had always been a favorite of mine, but after 2 1/2 hours to get there, 5 1/2 hours to play after getting off late, and then a 3 hour drive home, No More !

Could not figure out where to play yesterday with all the heat and humidity so I ended up at my home course which I haven't played since January. It's always a slow day at Rancho unless you are very lucky. The course was well watered almost to the point of over saturation. There were many area's under repair, both in the fairway and green side.
The 12th par three has a huge tree limb behind the green and in the back bunker. They have chopped it up but it's still laying there and the back bunker is unplayable. There was a lot of maintenance, mowing and shoveling muck from cart paths but no one addressing this problem. The greens were the best thing right now. They were soft and rolling fairly true. The 13th green had some sort of square patch/depression on it about the size of a magazine which is not so bad except the pin placement was very close to it? Fairways were typical late summer mix of perfect and bare spots. Tee boxes were a little chewed up. This course is considered a premium of all the City Courses and so they charge a little more to play. The Driving Range Balls are toast. If your lucky you'll get about 8-10 good ones from a large bucket. I wish they would improve the range. Now I will drive all the way to Westchester or Alondra park. For the most part it was worth it.

Played yesterday, Sunday, at 6am. Why? Anyway, tee boxes a bit scruffy at times with some serious divot damage on the par 3's. Fairways were thin in many areas, patchy and good at times. A mixed bag. The two bunkers I was in were good except for the incredible amount of un-raked footprints. Greens were soft, medium speed and rolled well. Pace of play was 4 hours. $60 with a cart. The driving range fence along the 18th hole is riddled with many large holes. Beware !

I thought the course was in pretty good shape. Fairways were pretty lush. Greens were in good repair. Tees could have been manicured a little better.

Not going to complain about the course due to my own horrible round, but I played at 6:20 am (after having reserved for $10 online but they then couldn't find my reservation) and the wet, dewy conditions didn't help. Again, not the course's fault. It was my second visit to Rancho Park and I find the course very challenging and interesting. The conditions are quite good right now in respect to how heavily trampled this course is every week. Forget about weekends - playing it early morning during the week is the way to go. At only $33 it's darn good value. Greens are probably the best part about the course as they vary hole to hole and are in good condition. Wish more people would fix their ball marks though, but that's the same at every course. There are very few bare patches in the fairways currently so that's nice. Traps were heavy, but again, in the morning that's pretty understandable. I look forward to coming back again only this time I would like to get a decent score!

Played Rancho Park on Friday June 7, 2013 with 3 friends. Tee time was 8:12 am. We started on time and finished about 12:30 pm. The lady in the starter's office was very pleasant and helpful as was the person manning the carts. I have always liked Rancho. I like the layout of the course. Every hole is different, there are subtle elevation changes, and some not so subtle elevation changes. The greens were in very good condition as were the fairways. The tees were a little ragged. If you can, play during the week and you enjoyment of the course will be multiplied as the pace of play is so much better.
