Played Saturday morning, at 10:30 (12-20-14). First time I played Rancho in many years, and the fairways and greens were in good condition, very playable. POP was about 5.25 hours, with the most back-up on the 11th hole (long par 3, with a snack shop). I've forgotten about the humped fairways on several par 4s, and with no really short par 3s or par 4s, there aren't any really easy holes. I do like finishing with two short-ish par 5s. I wasn't in any bunkers so no opinion on the sand but overall, I was pleased with the course, and I hope to return soon.

Played today in a good pace of 4 hours. Course was very wet from dew and played long and you needed to play winter rules. It appeared no maintenance was being done today and perhaps not since Friday? ... Continue »

Played today in a good pace of 4 hours. Course was very wet from dew and played long and you needed to play winter rules. It appeared no maintenance was being done today and perhaps not since Friday? Fairways were shaggy, wet, muddy. Tee boxes (not all) were very beat up. Rough was of course thick, wet and penalizing. One bright spot, were the greens. Though they appeared uncut since Friday/Sat and were wet for the first 90 minutes, they were in very good condition. Once they dried out they became even better. The previous time and today our pace of play was great and that would make me schedule another time. But if the conditions are such as they were today, I will wait for a few weeks (or a month) of sunshine to dry things out.

Played this morning in a great 4 hour pace. Have to appreciate the marshal who was clearly making his presence known and moving the pace along for everyone. Course is in very nice shape, especially the greens. Tee boxes clean and level; fairways cut and providing good roll out; bunkers in good shape; greens were (IMO) wonderful. All the greens were consistent in their putting; held shots very well and provided excellent roll for chip shots. A very nice round of golf indeed. Will look forward to going back.

I should have known better, but when I had no problem getting on solo on Sunday afternoon, I figured it wouldn't be so bad. Wrong. Started my round with a twosome at 1:20 or so, and literally finished putting on 18 in the dark. Last group to finish for sure. The pileups on the par 3s is just nuts.

As for the conditions, some dried out fairways (17 in particular), but greens are pretty good. The tee boxes? Pretty disastrous. Rough and sand fine. Did I mention the POP was dreadful? Still some signs of aeration throughout but not a big factor. New driving range looks very nice.

I do like this course layout immensely, but what I wouldn't do to see it in perfect condition and finish in 3-4 hours ... dare to dream.

It has been a long time since my last round at Rancho and I found it a lot of fun. I would have to concur with the previous reviews re some brown spots on fairways and tee boxes yet are all very playable. Bunkers continue to be excellent (when dry) and very pleasantly surprised with the greens conditions. Despite a few careless divot marks, the greens were very receptive but also surprisingly quick...at least compared to the local munies I play here in the SG Valley. My foursome teed off around 7 and finished in just under 4 hours. Not great but good for RP. I would def make this part of my regular rotation if I lived closer, but still a very enjoyable historical place. I dig the classic "LA Confidential" feel of the old buildings and restrooms (when clean)...playing here is almost always a treat.

First time here & I could definitely see the old character this place has. Could picture the LA Opens & qualifiers held here back in the day.

Anyway, got off a little late & spent probably an hour just waiting today. Nearly a 5 hour round, but mostly in part to the group in front of us being sooooo slow, not waving us up, taking time in the fairway for one guy to give another a "quick" lesson, etc.

Course is in decent muni condition. Fairways have a lot of brown patches, but the lies are playable everywhere.

Rough is always hit or miss at these places, though better than most city courses I've played. Bare or dried out in some spots but not as many as other courses. Very healthy for the most part & will definitely grab your club.

Tee boxes were like most of the course, just dried out with some brown patches, but nothing too bad in terms of divots & they were all level.

Greens played really soft all day, but not slow. Just pretty bumpy as there are several types of grass infiltrating each green along with the fringes.

Bunkers are the highlight of the course-best I've played out of this year. It's the nice fluffy stuff that's so easy to play out of.

One major complaint is how maintenance does things around here. Sure there were the usual digging projects & such, but as for grass clippings, I really hate it when courses just leave them strewn in clumps everywhere. And it's not like they're in the trees way off to the side of the hole, these are in fairways, right next to greens & bunkers, etc. Is it too much to ask them to clean up after themselves? The stuff also gets on the cart paths & creates muck which then dries up & hardens & it just all looks nasty! Just my little rant today, it's not just this course.

Not sure if I'd come back here based on POP & mediocre conditions (as well as TRAFFIC!) but it's another course to check off the list.

Got off around 6am ish today - even played thru on 1st tee thankfully- that group- # 5 on day- finished 2 holes behind our 3 1/2 hr walk. Saw no marshalls- no wonder course backs up incrementially when these little gaps go unattended. As mens clubber here- it's tough to play a weekend event due to pace. Of course snack bar closed at 12 tee. Greens slowly coming back- waffle effect minor but bumpy. Rough has been let go so it is long as it should be. Fairways horrible. Tee boxes horrible. Poor conditions + normal pace of play discourages coming here- only when you can tee off at dawn is it tolerable. Faded glory gives it a " Blanche Dubois" feeling. Luckily, got charged resident rate.

I have played Rancho Park since moving to So Cal in 1970... Always has been one of my favorite courses. A true barometer of what kind of golfer you are. Not tricked up, straight forward traditional golf. The downside has always been the brutally long time it takes to play. Well today teed of at 6:05 and zipped around in 3:20. That does not happen at Rancho!

However, the course was in the worst condition I have ever seen it ! How sad ! The driving range looked totally redone, which is fine, but at the cost of neglecting the actual golf course ????. Plus $38 to walk is rather steep green fees for a course in such poor condition.
