The course is in pretty decent condition, but the pace of play is like death. Don't try to play Rancho on the weekend. Very nice weekday course. The greens are in excellent shape!

By Rancho standards, course is in decent shape right now. Greens are almost recovered from aeration, however, there really are a ridiculous number of unrepaired ball marks on most greens. Fairways are very soft and thin. Tee boxes also could use some work. Many of them are very un-level. Otherwise, Rancho is still a great test of golf. Of note during our round was seeing the guy in the group behind us ace the 3rd hole.

Rancho was great as usual. If you can get out early enough, 7-9am, it takes 4-4.5 hours to play. Not an easy course but always fun!l

Back to Rancho 10/9 for a nearly six-hour round. I didn't check the schedule at the course, but they're clearly getting ready to punch the greens - two of the four practice greens were punched and top-dressed. The course is in good shape generally and seems to be a bit less swampy than usual, although there are still plenty of areas that are just super-saturated and muddy as always. Greens seemed firmer than usual. The rough was really in great shape, though it was cut down on some holes and left quite long on others. If you play here, I beg you, please, please, please fix at least three or four ball marks on every green!

This is a great course. It has a traditional layout, like many country clubs in the area. The entire course is in good shape, even though it gets a lot of play. YOu can't find a better value than this. The only negative is the other golfers. There seems to be too many rude people who play here. I have played around 300 different courses in my life and this is the only course where other golfers think that they are the marshall. So quit your yelling, moaning, and crybabying at fellow golfers and let the marshall do their job! The marshalls do a great job at keeping play moving at this course.

Enjoyed Rancho today. I got out as a single at 10:15 AM. The round went pretty quick, about 4 1/2 hrs. I got the feeling however that this course usually plays a lot slower. Probably slow enough to make some golfers miserable. So for a fairly quick pace at Rancho, if you can, get out on a Monday morning.

The course was in OK shape. The greens were soft and a bit slow. The Tee boxes, fairway and rough were all pretty good. The only real bad thing was the unrepaired ball marks on the green. Putting got a little bumpy, but I guess that is be expected at a LA Public Course.

It was well worth $21.00 I would play it again for sure!

Why bother? I ask myself that every time I play this track. Our tee time was a little after 3 PM on Sunday, didn't tee off until nearly 4PM. Took nearly 3 hrs to play 9 holes! Fairways were dry, patchy and generally crappy. Greens were slow, and filled with unrepaired ball marks. Flushed my 2nd shot down the middle of the fairway on the first Par 5 and the ball disappeared (taken by the group ahead?) Coming off that same green, I got hit in the leg by a flyer from the group behind me. No fore, no apology...I like the old-fashioned routing and layout of this course but this is LA public golf at its absolute worst. Balls spraying every which way, no etiquette in duffer land, actually made me long for the "serenity" of Wilson or Harding! Next time I'll drive to Rustic Canyon...

I played this course few times. It is always crowded even on a weekday. Normally it takes me 1 to 1.5 hours to wait as a single. I noticed that they have women's tournament on every Tuesday, so try to avoid Tuesday if you dont reserve a tee time. Because Rancho is located in west LA, the temperature is generally cooler than other city courses in the east side of the city. If it is not for the long wait list, I would play it a lot more often.
