Played the Classic course yesterday afternoon. Easy to walk as is the players course. Got on before twilight started, was done in just a little over 3 hours. Tee boxes were in good shape, some a little thin and unlevel, but nothing that could inhibit play. Fairways were in great shape, a little thick for my taste as I could hardly get any rollout, but still very nice. The rough was thick enough to create some punishment but was not overwhelming. Sand quality is little worse than the Player's course, a little rocky and thin, not bad, but as not nice as the Player's course. Greens were fantastic, rolled smooth and fast! Overall it's a nice course, I still prefer the Player's course but the Classic is pretty fun too.

Off the first tee at 7:40, finished a tick under 4 hours walking, so great PoP. Fairway grass a bit long today, probably cut them on Mondays, rough could be deep in some areas ... at least for Mile Sq. Enjoyed the greens, really rolling nice and true, semi-quick but not overly so. I found a few greenside bunkers and different conditions in each: from wet thick sand to thin hard pack ... all manageable as long as you dig in when taking your stance to get an idea on what cometh. Altogether, a fun day down behind the Orange curtain. I'd play it again, just wish the green fees were more reasonable for a flat, no frills course: say $35 or so to walk would be fairer that the $52 they charge. Nice clubhouse for grog and grub.

Played a GK Cup match with Kg1791 today on the Classic course. Kevin's review was pretty accurate regarding course conditions.

For all but the par 3 boxes, they were fairly level, very well covered and cut to a short length. 3-par boxes were a bit rougher with many more divots, and a couple were also a bit crowned/uneven in places.

Fairways were well manicured and very few thin or browning areas.

Rough was probably about 1.5 inches and not particulary punitive. I was only in one trap (greenside), and found it to be in nice shape.

Greens were in excellent shape; very receptive to well struck shots and putts ran very true with not many unrepaired divots to bounce them around. Kudos to the public for helping to keep these OC greens some of the best I played recently.

Pace of play on this afternoon round was right at 4 hours, another treat I'm not used to!

Certainly would recommend you get out and play here while the conditions are this nice!

Course is in very good condition Tee boxes were nice. Some divot damage on the Par 3 Holes. Fairways were very good. Not much rough to speak of. Sand traps were very nice with lots of sand in them. Greens were very good also. Hardly any divot damage and they rolled pretty smooth considering an afternoon starting time. Pace of Play was 4 hours.

Played as a single on 5/7/14 @ 10:15 with 2 other players. POP wasn't to bad, about 4 hours 15 minutes. Overall condition was pretty good for a daily fee public course. Tees fairways and greens were good, medium fast speed on the greens. Classic course (holes 1-13 & 18) has the old school greens that pitch from back to front. Down hill putts fast uphill putts slow. I hit 12/18 greens with a lot of two putts, had a good work out on the greens. Holes 14-17 are a newer layout, lets just say the greens are three times larger, flat with hardly any contours in them. One thing that I found odd was the green side bunkers are set so far away from the greens that they hardly come in play. Oh, the wind, it was easily blowing 10-15 mph with gust up to 20, into the wind holes played tough. Mile square will defiantly give your driver a good work out, every hole is bombs away.

The course is nice from tee to green. Fairways were great with no real divot damage. Tee boxes on some holes were a little too fluffy for me. Greens were medium to fast and they looked like it rolled true. Rough was not too penal but there are a lot of trees to contend with if you strayed from the fairway.
I, personally, like this course better than the players due to conditions. It is an easy tract to walk. The course is not too tough because everything is straightforward for you, but it does get harder later in the afternoon because of the wind.

Played the Classic on 04/09 and tee'd off at 0745. Pace of play has never been an issue for me on this course during the week. I've finished in under 4.5 hours each of the last four times I've played this course the last two months.

The greens are in real fine shape and recovered well from the aeration, in fact, I couldn't tell it had been done. Smooth and true.

Fairways are in great shape and give some roll out. Bunkers are just plain good and well maintained for a muni.

Lots of trees and the rough can get thick so the penalty for missing a fairway is usually a forced punch back into the fairway.

Only complaint is a few tees are not very level and it can be tough to get a flat stance, mostly with the par 3's.

Made it down to the OC to play the Classic course on 4/5 with an 8AM start time. Gotta get there early to reduce that PoP, we got around in 4:05 which made up for the high green fee of $52 walking. ... Continue »

Made it down to the OC to play the Classic course on 4/5 with an 8AM start time. Gotta get there early to reduce that PoP, we got around in 4:05 which made up for the high green fee of $52 walking. Sizpez played it's sister course, the Players, later in the day and conditions are similar: greens need another week or two as they still showed aeration holes and were a bit sandy causing some putts to go off line. If you've not played the course, it's not long, very flat and walkable, with tree lined fairways as it's only defense other than a few water hazards. Not high on my list, but a decent selection for a muni ... still surprised how much they charge for green fees, especially when I played the Babe the day before for $44 w/cart.
