Rode the Golds (6543/71.2/130) with Greg, Kong and Larry. Thanks to all for a fun round! POP was 4H, 20M on a busy, warm afternoon. Congrats to Andrew and Gary for prevailing in the inaugural GK Cup team match play. First time playing Oak Creek. I like most Fazio layouts, and this one was no exception. Lots of strategically placed traps and tree/bush lined fairways make keeping it straight a premium here. Nice, enjoyable layout that was challenging but fair. The Bermuda tees had good coverage and were maintained high. Only a few could use leveling and most were well maintained for divots. The Bermuda fairways had a nice cushion and were good to play from. They were also maintained high, which made the course play longer than you would expect. The Bermuda rough was plenty high enough for the ball to sit down. Punitive, we had at least one lost ball that was lost in the rough and a couple of other times you almost had to be standing over the ball to see it. Looked like they may be refurbishing the traps? The ones around the green were darker in color and appeared to be universally thinner. The fairway traps actually had too much light colored sand, resulting in numerous fried egg lies within our group. The greens were smooth and medium fast. Nice! Even though I had a poor putting day, they rolled especially well after playing a bunch of recent rounds on bumpy, slow Bermuda greens in the desert. Also liked that I was able to back up numerous irons on the greens. Customer service good from all encountered. Nice practice facility, complementary water in the cart that was also equipped with good GPS. Good restaurant on site that was reasonably priced (fish/chips were good) for a golf course. Recommended.

Played at 1:20 today with Wendy, Blake and Greg. A fun time was had by our group. The group inn front of us was really quick and was usually 1 hole ahead of us and we never saw the group behind so we have a nice relaxing 4:10 round. The staff at Oak Creek is super friendly throughout your experience, all of them had smiles on their face.

I have played Oak Creek and handful of times and normally I have been let down on conditions. Well not today! The course was in fantastic shape right now in the peak of the hot season. Tee's were decent but a few a little chewed up from all of the play before us today. Fairways had full coverage and great lies all day. I know that they are not the pristine emerald green through out but I'd say they were 90% green and were cut perfectly. Rough was a mixed bag the farther you wandered from the fairway but it was all cut nice and had good coverage.

The sand and the greens were the highlight of the day. It seems they added more sand to almost all bunkers and man they are soft, maybe too soft for some people but id rather have that then no sand. Greens were super soft but ran quick which I think is a strange combo but I loved them. Unfortunately the clientele that play in orange county have no Idea what a divot fixer is and leave craters on the greens.

Overall I think this course is in great summer shape and if things stay the same October/ November is looking real good.

POP: 4:30 Weather: Overcast/Mid 60's Time: 8:15am Date: 6/23/19 Service and Amenities: Oak creek has amazing personnel working for them. Everyone is very accommodating and helpful. Their cart gps system is the best I have ever seen; akin to the touch screen on a Tesla since it is huge and in the middle of the cart. The driving range here has been grass every time I have played the course but it is super expensive! Pro-tip: make sure to let them know you are playing that day and you get the "member" price for range balls. Greens: Rolled super true but slower than I would have hoped. Their practice green near the starter was at a totally different speed than the front 9 greens. Fairways: The fairways were firm but soft enough to get really nice crisp iron shots with nice shallow divots. Nothing too tricky on any of the tee shots into the fairways, however there are a few speed slots that exist (#10 up the right) that I am still trying to figure out. Great coverage on the fairways with no real divot issues. Bunkers: Bunkers were definitely penal today. The fairway bunkers were wet on the front 9 and fluffy on the back 9 (temperate swing from 65 at tee off to about 85 by hole 10). A lot of the green-side bunkers were labelled as ground-under-repair and roped off so I do not have any information on those other than they looked to be in excellent shape so I am not sure what their intention was with the GUR. Tee Boxes: Flat with good grass coverage. Some areas were a bit torn up on the par 3s but that is to be expected when their par3s are long or have a lot of trouble so people hit multiple shots (as we witnessed by watching the group in front of us hit almost every tee shot on each hole.) Rough: About 1.5-2" long. Depending on how it was sitting, the rough was deep/thick enough to produce dead shots or snap a club face closed. Overall: Great course and a fun layout. Definitely a great course to try but make sure to keep an eye out for deals!

Played Saturday 4/20 morning, I lucked out and was able to get out for free with a friend. Greens have healed from whatever punching was done, were fairly firm and fast. Only green I could tell was punched recently was #14 on the back and it was minimal, still very nice. Greens were definitely the highlight of the course. Fairways are a little dried out and brown, allowing for excellent roll off the tee and some tight lies on wedges. Rough is fluffy and hit or miss and inconsistent around the course. Was in two bunkers and caught some good lies but the sand out here is definitely inconsistent. Course is hosting a US open qualifier on Wednesday May 8th, so conditions, particularly the greens should be very nice around that time and quick. I saw a regular rate at the time we were playing was about 180 bucks, tough to spend that much on golf myself, if I had to pay I'd probably head to inland empire for 50 bucks or somewhere like goosecreek for better conditions.

Greens very inconsistent. Recently punched and sanded, there was still a lot of sand in spots, and some greens showed minimal punching. Very hard to figure out pace when the surfaces are all over the map.

Fairways were mostly OK. Lies were a bit thin but playable, with occasional bare spots. Not much rough, but it was mostly playable. Tee boxes were mostly fine. Quite a bit of divot damage on par 3s, but could always find a decent lie.

Bunkers remain poor at this course, as I've found every time I've played it. Don't know why they struggle so much with something that doesn't grow. We had fairway bunkers with super soft sand, green side bunkers with hard firm sand while the adjacent bunker was soft, some were washed out with a lot of water damage, some had little sand coverage over a base of hard clay. And most of the soft bunkers weren't smoothed out much at all, and it wasn't just players who hadn't raked - it just wasn't applied uniformly through the bunker and gave a very lumpy surface.

GPS on the carts is pretty lousy. The displays look lovely but we had our system die going down the first hole and had to switch carts, and the replacement crashed several times and needed rebooting, and sometimes the yardages were wildly off (by hundreds of yards). It wasn't just our bad luck - the starter said he hated the systems and said they're constantly causing problems.

The range is large but yet somehow was too crowded as they had a bunch of spots reserved or otherwise roped off. Range balls are quite expensive but at least one gets a bit of a discount if you have a tee time (otherwise it's $17 for a large bag which is at least 50% overpriced). Range balls were pretty poor quality too, with about 1 in 4 being decent and the recent being very worn. The range was pretty chewed up and took some work to get good lies to hit from.

Overall, the place just isn't that good. It's too bad as they do a good job of making you not realize you're in the middle of an industrial and office area, and a lot of the holes have a decent design. It feels like it wouldn't take too much to make the place much better as the issues aren't major, but there are just too many of them to recommend. It really feels it just needs some management that cares.

Joined a Friend who is a member here and got out 2nd on Sunday 3/10. They are regulars on this course so the pro shop gave me the member rate of $117 which is still steep but not terrible for not having to drive an hour to play a similar course for a better price. Course is in good shape right now and although not deep emerald green in color the grass is very healthy and provided nice lies all day.

Greens were fantastic and show no signs of the needle punch a week ago. They were fast and semi firm. All puts stayed online all day and Pins were in some very tough locations. Fairways had full coverage and were cut short. Rough is a mixed bag for what little rough there is and can be very penal if let grow for a week. I was in a few traps and they were mostly good except hole 17.

The only issue I had with this course today were the collars around the greens they were cut real short but an invasive grass is sprouting up in patches on almost every hole. This caused any attempts to put from off the green difficult to judge on where the ball is going to bounce. Overall its a fun course but price is steep. Its all about Location Location Location if you want to play here.

Tee boxes are in good shape. Fairways were really nice for this time of year, dormant but not thin, balls sat up nicely. Rough is also dormant and is the fluffy stuff that can be patchy but it’s okay for what it is. Bunkers are probably the worst part of the course, inconsistent sand, never seem to be raked properly out here. Greens were great, the best public course greens I’ve seen in Orange County. Firm, fast and smooth. Some ball marks here and there unrepaired but couldn’t ask for much more from the greens. Enjoyed the day out there. Customer service from the starters always seems to be a step above here.

Played 3-JAN with an $85 Golf Moose coupon. Very strange day. Tee time was for 9:04. Arrived at 8AM and was told due to a frost delay, everything was pushed back 30 min. Went to the range where I was told I could only hit off the mats until further notice. After stretching, waiting a bit and hitting a few, we were told at 845 that the first tee was now open, they were all caught up and we were third up. We rushed and teed off at 8:55 only to be backed up after the second hole. Saw the marshal on 7 who said the group ahead of us had one or two open holes in front of them and would push them. We were on them again at 9 and never saw the marshal again. Two or three groups on top of us as well but no where to go. Never saw a beverage cart the entire round.

Course was so so. I'll offer my ratings similar to the previous post:

Tee Boxes: 4/10. Uneven and in need of coverage. A LOT of sand divot repair marks. Gopher holes on several of them!
Fairways: 6/10. Good lies with ok roll out. Brown and yellow mostly, but not thin. One or two holes (hole 5) were completely soaked/water logged close to the green. Sprinkler or drainage issues
Rough: 5/10. Agree, hit or miss. In places it was thin with just dirt, and in others it was a club thick.
Bunkers: 5/10. I was in them all day. Decent sand on some but a few others with exposed netting. Traps on 9 on the left side were beyond horrible
Greens: 7/10. They were pretty pure but A LOT of ball marks.

Also noticed a lot of downed trees and un-raked leaves between holes. With the recent winds and rain, I'll cut some slack, but if I were paying the rack rate ($135/$180), I would be furious. I see Underpar now has an $85 rate with free replay. Makes sense as I think it will take a few months to get the gopher issue under control, tee boxes back and Oak Creek back into the shape it once was. Even $85 might be too much to pay at this point.

Started my New Year with an AM round here. POP 4.5 hours, mostly due to the 25-30 mph wind that was making quick play impossible. It was a 3-4 club wind all day until around 17 when it finally started to die. Played with a nice couple who we're on their 5th day in a row of golf (lucky husband). Staff all around was great as usual here.

Tee Boxes: 7/10. Even and plenty of coverage. Some divot repair needed on par 3s as always
Fairways: 6/10. Good lies all day with ok roll out. Brown and yellow mostly, but not thin.
Rough: 5/10. Hit or miss. In places it was thin with just dirt, and in others it was a club thick.
Bunkers: 5/10. Good sand, just way too much of it. I found it fine but other complained.
Greens: 8/10. They were pretty d%mn pure and the wind blew them out so good luck keeping downhill putts anywhere near the hole.

All and all, definitely worth the $69 I payed. Maybe even around $100. If you've never played it I would recommend. Great practice facility too (although you'll have to sell a kidney for range balls).
