Overall course conditions were great. Tee boxes were mostly leveled throughout. Fairways were in great shape. Traps were consistent. A few areas of the roughs were thin but not too severely. Greens were medium to fast but so many divots left unfixed. Please, Please...fix your own divots

Green Fees were a steal. $29 with bounce-back coupon and same day usage. $14.5 per round

Customer service was good except when our cart died on the 16th hole. We called pro shop while getting to the 15th and was told someone would come out with another cart but never did

We will probably return when we are in the area

Played an early round here today. It started off rough, but ended up OK. I had a GroupGolfer voucher for this place ($18, which was the same price they were charging on GolfNow anyway, so not really a deal). The voucher said a tee time was required, so I called yesterday. There were plenty of early tee times open online, so the woman I talked to said not to worry about it and show up early. She said they'd have no problem getting me off ahead of other groups when they start play at 6am. I got there around 5:30 and there were a few other players milling around, but no workers to be seen. Finally a guy shows up about 5:50, but doesn't open the pro shop (or the bathroom). He starts putting some carts out and then ultimately opens the doors right at 6:00. As a huge line formed in the bar area where they were checking people in, he kind of had an attitude about "opening at 6am" even though the first official times were starting at 6:07. He told me he couldn't get me out first, but could put me with a threesome at 6:14. Fine enough. We got all our stuff together and headed to the first tee. The 6:07 group was on the range (?), so my group went off first closer to 6:30. At the turn, I broke off from the threesome for a number of reasons and I finished around 9:15. In the end, it worked out fine, but it seemed like a real cluster-F getting started. Beyond that, things went fine and the course was actually in pretty decent shape for mid-summer. Pretty green for the most part with the bermuda in nicely in most areas. Not surprisingly, things were a bit shaggy and inconsistent in the fairways and rough, but better than being dry and burnt out in my opinion. The greens were actually in good shape, but kept longer for the heat and running extremely slow. Still pretty smooth on putts, though. Sand traps damp early, but good sand in the few I was in. Only complaint was the tee boxes. Some were very shaggy with several inches of rough and very unkempt conditions. Some were fine, so it was a mixed bag. I actually enjoyed the layout more than I expected to. A lot of water comes into play here (on almost every hole, in fact). It runs along the left side of most every hole, so it would have been nice to see a little more variety, but it's definitely a prominent and memorable feature here. Without course knowledge, be careful in knowing how far the water sticks out in some areas. The landscape is pretty flat, so it can be deceiving when you can't fully see what's ahead of you. Otherwise, the course is pretty straightforward with greens that are pretty easy to get at and not hard to read, so you can score well if you can keep your ball out of the water hazards. Actually not a horrible option with their extremely cheap summer pricing.

Played Cathedral Canyon as a single on Lincolns Birthday because I found a great rate online. I've played here many times in the past and it has always been on the lower end for courses in the Coachella Valley so my expectations were not very high.

The bad: greens are medium/slow and some are bumpy, fairways were thin in some spots, driving range is a bit chewed up, and you check in with the bartender (they closed the pro shop since the last time I was here)

The good: The terrible hardpan bunkers have been replaced with new sand and are in excellent condition. However, some of the bunkers on the back 9 are not finished and have been dug out and play as ground under repair. They have also trimmed some of the trees which used to cause me grief. The layout is decent and there is a lot of water on some of the holes which add challenge to the course. It was a beautiful day for golf and the pace of play was good. I was paired up with 3 other nice people and pace of play was just over 4 hours.

Cathedral Canyon is still on the lower tier of Palm Springs area tracks but management is starting to address some longstanding problems with this course. I'll be back again when I can get another bargain.

The good news is that the course is in much better condition than the last time I played here app. 18 months ago. The bad news is that even with significant improvement it is barely up to thoroughly mediocre status.

Their fall overseeding has taken hold decently. The greens were medium slow and bumpy. The tees were furry, they definitely had not been mowed in several days. The fairways were ok, it was 50-50 whether you would have a plush or a thin lie. The rough is dormant bermuda, mowed down. The traps were not in good condition, most were hard even though they had been raked recently.

The golf shop was closed, you check in for tee times in the bar. The layout is tight with lots of lakes, mediocre, every hole is surrounded on one or both sides by condos. With so many better alternatives available within a couple of miles, this is not a course I would recommend.

2nd round of the day on june 28. Played silverrock earlier. Found a living social deal for 10 dollars for this course including cart. Cathedral canyon is one the older courses in palm springs area so i wasn't expecting too much. Course conditions is below average to average. Layout was alright, but seems like some holes are similar. Seems like i was playing Upland hills in the palm springs area. Still not sure if its worth the 10 dollars, but if im driving 100 miles away from los angeles i rather pay 10-15 dollars more and played a better course.

For $39 (Memorial Holiday), had to check it out. We drove up to the club house at 5:45am (6am tee time) and the pro shop was closed. There were a few golfers waiting. The starter showed up at 6am and got us going. The tee boxes were in terrible shape and so were the bunkers. The first few holes looked like they haven't been maintained in a while. Surprisingly the greens were pretty decent and clean. This course felt like they were trying to build 3-9 holes but came up short and only built 2-9 holes. There were some odd fairway layouts but overall, it was less than what we expected for $39. Pay a little more and play elsewhere. Even for $39, I don't think I'll play here again.

Played on Sunday 2-26. As I have said in past reviews, you can't beat this course for 39.00 from Golf Now. Has water on at least 50% of the holes, and this affects tee shots and second shots. All in all the conditions were very playable from fairways in very good condition, to Greens being around a 10. and very few ball marks to be found. The course was very green, except for the rough, which was dormant. Really no need to spend 125.00 or more on the high end courses, when you can play here for much less. For me it's either play in L.A. and take 5-6 hours or come here and play in 3 1/2 to 4. Highly recommended.

Got a quick call from a friend Saturday night, asking to find a couple of guys to play in a 7:45 Sunday tee time. We said ok, we haven't played this course in a while.

Basically, the course itself is a pretty good layout with its two nines: Mountain/Lakes If you could maneuver the lakes on both nines, you may score pretty well. It's a fun course.

However, the conditions on this course is not something I care for ever since.
Tees: 5 out of 10
Bunkers: 6 out of 10
Fairways: 7 out of 10
Greens: 4 out of 10

You might think 4 out of 10 for greens is harsh number rating. But if you think about it, January 29, 2012, is right in the middle of peak season for the lower desert. If all this course could come up with is the color green going for them, it isn't helping the play with bumpy, grainy, rolling un-true, and slow. I would gladly putt a colorless putting grounds with smooth true roll-- any day.

Pace of play: 9 out of 10

One of my most difficult reviews.
Reading previous reviews, I have not rated this course, as there is little disagreement with a ‘Fair’ rating.
Cathedral Canyon CC is an interesting place. It is simply a solid average muni, as referenced by most others’ as ‘ok’. I found the layout the most engaging aspect of the course. Challenges arise depending on how your next shot is executed.
Conditions: Tees- tired, thin, lots of divots. Fairways: thin, but green and quite patchy with uneven lies all 18, due to uneven growth of the grass; also dormant bermuda borders (see photos). Sand: OK- inconsistent depths and amounts, with emphasis mainly on the green-side bunkers, which were good. Rough: short cut rye/dormant bermuda, thin in places, but this promotes speed of play. Greens: Fair- thin, soft and holding, but very bumpy due to ineffective and uneven growth of the grass; design is good with contours and bunker defense. Sufficient prac/fac with separate chipping and putting areas. All staff we met were helpful and courteous. There was no drinks cart today, even though a full field was running 20 minutes late, and it took us 5 hours for the round. There are plenty of water stations and restrooms. Also, no marshals on the course, only starting. The other reviews below make good points for maintenance, pace of play, greens-tees distances. I can see the course reducing costs during the slow season, and thus the conditions previously reviewed. Personally I would play this course again, later in the spring, when conditions may still be ok, but the crowds thinned a bit. For our price (golfnow.com Hot Deal $30), it was worth a look.
