Was in town for a few weeks but wrong timing with rain and cooler weather I opted to stay a few days in the warmer Palm Desert area. I decided to play on Friday Terra Lago South because a friend recommended it and it was the only course under a 100.00 and tee spot open before noon. As I checked in I hit a few balls to warm up and I was paired with Matt and Dick 2 older gentleman late 70’s maybe early 80’s very nice men from Vancouver. We (I) decided on the white or green tees 6200 yards 125 slope and all tee boxes were fine with sand divots being filled in for the mot part and all seem to be level. Fairways were great for the most part but I don’t remember it being narrow in some parts. Rough was a little of everything, Course had cut down either existing trees or weeds but a lot of side hill rough and sometimes if you found your ball it was in hardpan. Green were quick and held shots well, puts were going actually where you aimed. Bunkers had little to no sand so that became a challenge, but all in all a great day was had by all. The weather was beautiful and sunnier 76 degrees a perfect day for golf. If I’m in the area again I would try the north course but that’s not to say I won’t play here again, it is a fair test of golf …

Played twilight round at 1pm on 12/31, sorry for the late review. We reserved teetimes on their website the day before, I believe they use EZLinks. What a pain in the rear!! We made two times for a total of 7 of us, 1:10pm and 1:20pm. When we arrived, they didn't have record of our 1:20 teetime and we prepaid and there's transaction proof billed to our credit card, $41ea and the 1:20 time was for the threesome. So the 1:10 billed properly at $164 total, but the course didn't have record of our 1:20 which was billed to our card for $123. Oh well, my brother paid the $123 and we are disputing the credit card bill. Proshop was nice enough to honor the $41ea twilight rate and they worked us in. Hats off to the guys outside all around, cart guys and starters were all magnificent!!! One more frutstrating thing is that since I was having some problems with my EZLinks account, I called the proshop and they wouldn't honor the $41 twilight rate, I HAD TO book online for this rate, pretty much a joke policy if you ask me.

The course is in pretty good shape, worth the $41 rate in my opinion. Nothing was super outstanding, but everything is so overpriced right now in the desert, so I think this was the proper value play. Fairways were often very wet, but otherwise had great lies. I did take two free drops for casual water. Teeboxes were level, but had quite a bit of divot damage all around. Not a huge issue, just took an extra minute to find a good spot. Greens were pretty nice. Held shots very well!! and putted rather smooth. Definitely the highlight. Rough seemed pretty tame, not very deep, although I hit every fairway and only missed two greens, so maybe it was just the way I was playing. Didn't hit into any bunkers, so can't speak to those, but they looked just fine. Overall, we had a good time other than the weird check in at the proshop. I'd recommend, it's a fun track.

Rode the Golds (6401/70.9/130) as a single mid day on a GN Hot Deal. Partly cloudy and breezy around 75. Not busy, so they sent me right to #1 tee. Played through one 2some for a nice 2H, 45M POP. Bermuda has already fully taken back over anywhere that was over seeded last fall. Course is very dry and is in for a bad summer if they do not start watering it much more. Quickly! Tees very good. Flat, nice coverage with few divots. Fairways playable with some brownish areas. Decent coverage with a few bare areas and occasional lush areas. Rough around the fairways has okay coverage with occasional bare spots, mostly maintained low. Hardpan the farther you are from the fairway. Greenside sand traps very poor. Anything but the flat areas they long ago let go and those are mostly weeds/grass. The flat areas they use a motorized vehicle to rake, but they are still just okay. Consistently too crusty/thin to be playing up to raised, firm greens. Most of the fairway traps they have let go and play like waste bunkers. Greens putted medium speed and are hard, not firm. Did not make or fix a single ball mark because of the firmness in 18 holes. You cannot even see where a dent is. They rolled like typical Bermuda greens, somewhat bumpy overall. Customer service very good from everyone. Quick Pro Shop check-in since I prepaid online. No Starter, Marshall or beverage cart on the course. Plenty of water/ice stations on the course. Decent GPS on the carts. Good all grass driving range with a couple of practice holes. Fun layout that unfortunately is rough around the edges condition wise. Recommended ONLY if you get a real deal, not worth remotely close to rack rate.

Rode the Golds (6401/70.9/130) with Geno in 3H mid day on a GN Hot Deal. Quick, no nonsense player, good guy. Partly cloudy, fairly calm and around 95, we did not wait a shot. Looked like they were removing a greenside bunker on 9 and had already removed a fairway bunker on 10. I have seen deals online where the TL South course costs less than the TL North course. I can see why, fun layout that unfortunately is rough around the edges condition wise. Tees had decent coverage with few divots. Fairways were playable with some brownish areas. Decent coverage with a few bare areas and some lush areas, okay to play from. Rough around the fairways has okay coverage with occasional bare spots, mostly maintained low. Played the South Course on Tuesday 12/17/19 on a replay from a UP certificate we used on the North Course earlier that morning. Neither of the courses were very crowded –we were on the tee of South at 1140 am (with GKer Nickesquire) within 15 minutes of walking off North course. We joined amiable local Dean, who was familiar with Greenskeeper.org but was not a member – what’s up with that??!!! Course conditions were fairly similar to those encountered on the North – see my review posted earlier today. Greens were very firm and getting the correct landing area and runout on chips and pitches was challenging. Fairway and rough turf conditions were not quite as good as those on North – we saw many more thin/bare areas on the South course. Tee and sand conditions were similar – it seemed like we found more bunkers on our round on the South. There is much less sloppiness of the terrain overall and less movement to greens on South compared to North, despite the slope/ratings for the Gold tees being very similar. There’s no question in my mind that the South Course plays easier under similar conditions. See my review of the North Course for comments on infrastructure and facilities. Since I played here in 2002, some holes on the back 9 have been abandoned/redesigned to accommodate housing that was built within the back 9 loop.Hole 12 has been incorporated into the practice area and a new (par-3) hole 12 built. Recommended.

Rode the Golds (6401/71.0/130) with Dconnally and Dean is slightly less than 4H mid day using Underpar. The weather was clear, fairly calm and in the mid 60's. Very fun layout that was in much better condition today than the last time I played here 2 months ago. The over seeded tees were mostly lush with few divots. The over seeded fairways were mostly lush with good coverage, but there were a decent amount of tight lies. The Bermuda rough around the fairways was not over seeded. Okay coverage with occasional bare spots, mostly maintained low. The greenside sand traps range from decent to poor. Consistently too thin to be playing up to raised, firm, quick greens. Most of the fairway traps they have basically let go, more like waste bunkers. The over seeded greens putted medium fast but were not as smooth as the North greens. Very firm with some ball mark challenges on the shorter holes. The customer service was very good from all. Friendly Pro Shop check-in, Starter, Marshall and the beverage cart came around several times. Plenty of water/ice station on the course. Decent GPS on the carts. Good all grass driving range with a couple of practice holes. Recommended.

Had a prepaid tee time on Terra Lago North through Forelinx @ 1pm. Checked in @ 12:40 and was advised they had a main water line break this morning and a slow moving tournament after they opened the course, so they were over an hour behind. Kudos to the staff for thinking outside the box and getting out the roughly 30 players who were waiting on afternoon tee times. First they provided free buckets of range balls to keep people occupied. The South course was scheduled to reopen after over seeding Saturday, so they quickly added pins and just opened it half a day early to accommodate the overflow caused by the late start. Rode the Golds (6401/71.0/130) with Ken and Claudette for 9 holes, then zigzaged around the back as a single to beat darkness and finish 18. 2H 20M playing behind several slow 4somes on the front, 1.5H on the back for slightly less than 4H overall. The weather was clear, fairly calm and around 90. Considering the course is coming out of overseeding, I found the conditions disappointing. The course is almost always rough around the edges. Excellent layout but needs more time/$$$ put into attention to detail. The Rye tees were mostly lush and will be super once they fill in more. The Rye fairways were mostly lush with good coverage. A few bad spots. The Bermuda rough around the fairways was not over seeded. Okay coverage with occasional bare spots. Most of the fairway traps they have basically let go. More like waste bunkers. The greenside sand traps range from okay to terrible. Consistently too thin to be playing up to raised greens. They need to be churned and more/better quality sand. The Rye greens putted woefully slow. I'll give them a pass on that since they were not expected to be utilized today. However, I counted 11/18 greens with areas (sometimes large) that had seed on them trying to fill in areas that were anywhere from weak to almost hardpan. These greens (IMO) are still 10-14 days from being good. I have played on greens right after aeration that were better than I experienced today. The customer service was good from all. No Marshall or drink cart, plenty of water/ice station on the course. GPS on the carts. Good all grass driving range with a couple of practice holes. Could not recommend in it's current condition, wait at least 2 weeks on these greens.

Played on 08/21 I had played this course a few months ago, so I didn’t come in with high expectations, but I was slightly disappointed by the recent change. The layout is pretty neat, with a number of difficult holes. You have the drive the ball well to play well here. The scenery or views aren’t exactly pretty, but each of the holes have some cool and unique features that make them interesting and challenging. The conditions appear as if the management doesn’t mind letting it go a little bit, especially if they can put more care into the North course here. The fairways were mostly green, with a few bare spots and a few muddy spots. The rough was pretty good, a little thick but overall manageable. The bunkers could definitely use a little more sand in them. The main problem were the greens, which were dry, really bumpy, and often had big patches of different types of grass protruding on the green, all making for a frustrating experience with putting. I know they’re more concerned with the North course, but perhaps a little more care put into this course would be nice. It’s still a great layout to play, and with better conditions it would certainly bring in more business.

Rode the Golds (6401/71.0/130) as a single super twilight in less than 3H. The weather was clear, fairly calm and 115. The Bermuda tees had decent coverage with a few needing divot repair. The Bermuda fairways overall had good coverage. Firm but playable with a few bad spots. The Bermuda rough around the fairways had okay coverage with occassional bare spots. The sand traps range from decent to terrible, often with 5' in the same bunker. The greens putted better than they looked but were still medium slow, fairly bumpy and firm. The customer service was very good from all. No Marshall or drink cart in the summer, but plenty of water/ice station on the course. GPS on the carts. Good all grass driving range with a couple of practice holes. The course is almost always rough around the edges. Excellent layout but needs more time/$$$ put into attention to detail. However, for less than $20 still recommended.
