9/27 used groupon/GN $31 teeing off at 11 paired with James and Pierce 20-30 yr olds and enjoyable partners for the 4 1/2 POP which seemed slow for this time of year as we waited on most every shot. Course will be open for about 4 more weeks. Current conditions are fairly good. Fairways are mostly a green shade with some brown area and good cover with soft subsoil. Some unfilled divots but not too bad for a resort course. Rough cut down and playable. Tees ok and bunkers with ample sand fine and compacted.
Greens were more on the firm side rolling medium fast with some grain and slope to factor in.
Had been 20+ yrs since I played here. Layout is interesting and varied with water an threat on many holes. Fairways are beyond rolling as there are humps and bumps every where and it seemed that the only place I had a level stance was on the tee.
Basic cart no GPS, friendly starter but not much other attention having to carry clubs down from the parking. All in all a good choice and a fun round.

Played the Palm course today and the parking was packed considering it’s warm and September 11 and all and I was hoping there were no tournaments going on. When I checked in they said they are running 15 minutes behind so I hit a few balls and waited about 20 minutes and off we went. We teed off at 11:10 and the weather was around 105 and was paired with 2 guys from Dallas named Larry and Jeff and a snow bird from Canada named Kevin. The 2 from Dallas played the white tees while Kevin and I played the blues. The guys were all very nice but playing in the heat was never a problem for me but as I get older I have noticed I start to get tired and maybe it was because I teed off so late in the day. Who knows? Anyways, on to the course. For summer conditions I is in great shape, tee boxes are all level and nice as well as the fairways. Bunkers had good sand coverage and easy to hit from, although they are steeper than I remember. Greens rolled true like most resort courses not fast or slow and even though it was warm and crowded pop was good 4:15 saw cart girl multiple times. The other course is the Valley which is closed until October. Course is in great shape right now and I like playing this course. Definitely recommended.

Beautiful layout with plenty of elevation change and water in play. I played here decades ago, but recently stayed at the JW Marriott so a deal on UnderPar was necessary.

Beautiful layout with plenty of elevation change and water in play. I played here decades ago, but recently stayed at the JW Marriott so a deal on UnderPar was necessary.

Granted in the summer months it's hot, but discounted. My only real issue was the greens were bring aerated so getting a true roll on the putting surface was impossible.

Rarely will you get a flat approach shot and although the greens are protected by bunkers there are enough places to miss short of the green to still scramble for par. Not a huge difference between the black and blue tees, so if you're up to the challenge go back.

Would love to have a chance to play this course again with smooth greens. It's worth a shot if you haven't played here before!

Rode the Blacks (6761/72.3/131) in 4H, 20M twilight with Avalon, Dave and Jesse. Very nice golfers to get matched up with. Seemed longer, course was busy, we waited most shots. Overcast, fairly calm, muggy and in the low 100s. Palm is definitely my preferred Marriott Desert Springs course. Better layout than the Valley IMO. First time here in almost 2 years. Bermuda tees were mostly lush and level, decently maintained with few divots. Bermuda fairways were mostly lush, nice to play from. Bermuda rough was mostly lush close to the fairways. Get away from the fairways and you could encounter hardpan to knee deep lost ball rough. Sand traps nicely raked with fluffy sand. Some could use more sand, but they were the best I have ever seen them here. Bermuda greens were firm and putted medium speed. Bumpy with some bad areas on many greens. Definitely worse than the Valley greens. Customer service is always very good here. Drink cart around several times, ample water stations every few holes on the course. Carts have good GPS. All grass driving range included in your fee is a +. Fun course layout in decent early summer condition. Recommended.

Still my favorite course in Palm Desert, even in negligible conditions.

I’ve played this course on multiple occasions, mostly in the warmer months, but also in the peak season. I’ve played in scramble tournaments here as well as a regular round with family. In all honesty, this course is by far the most consistent and most enjoyable course in the Coachella Valley, and is definitely my favorite spot to get a round in.

For being in such a warm climate, this course holds up very well year-round, and usually the conditions never change. I was very impressed by the conditions of the fairways and roughs at this time of year.

However, I have two major issues with the course conditions. For some reason, the greens were in unbelievably bad shape, I’m not sure if the grounds crew forgot to water the greens or cut them too short, but they were rock hard and slick as ice. I knew after 3 putting for bogey on the first green that the greens would be unreadable. To give you an idea of how fast the greens were, a perfect shot from 130 yards out on the 6th hole hit the front of the green and rolled all the way to the back. Additionally, every bunker had zero sand in them, and were nearly impossible to get out of.

An issue I have with the facilities at the course, and not the course itself, was that there is no snack bar, and there is one snack-cart for BOTH courses at the JW. Understandably, the initial Covid shutdown had caused the course to have to close the snack bar for safety reasons, however at this point there is no reason for it to be closed. And with the hotel not allowing outside food or drink to be brought to the course (which they are very strict about), I can tell you that people were falling apart by the time they reached the 18th green.

Overall, I would have paid $100+ to play somewhere else. The course is in Average shape, and for the amount of options that are in the area, there are multiple courses that I would have rather played at.

Had a 7am tee time today to beat the gentle 100+ degree heat that was on deck for the day.

This was my first time playing here and was super impressed with the grounds. Great throwback feel with the palms and water that I was waiting for Frank Sinatra to come out with a martini and cigarette and grab my bag.

I head down to the range to hit some balls and roll some putts. Hit the first tee and smacked a driver, played the hole like a pro then realized these greens had been punched. I should have checked BEFORE I made the reservation. Of course it was on Greenskeeper in big letters however, my research is about as good as my putting is. So Plinko for the balance of the day it was.

The course layout was nice and in decent condition although there was a lot of maintenance workers all through the course all day and on a lot of holes.

For sure would love to play here again with non punched greens and less landscaping.

Played the palms course yesterday at the Desert Springs Marriott. Teed off at 8:20 single cart rider so my girlfriend rode in one cart and I in the other, which was great because she complains about cigar smoke.

It was a beautiful day about 95 with a nice breeze and we played with 2 guys from Los Angeles. Masks were order of the day and the starter told us a marshall will be checking to see if people were wearing them. Not going to lie, it was a pain but the tradeoff was well worth it.

Range balls were provided and the only restroom was at the beginning and at the turn. No food or beverage for sale, maybe on Monday starter said. Water fountains were working to fill any ice bottles.

The course was in excellent condition and there was no real rough to speak of, after all it is a resort course.
Sand traps no rakes but they were playable and the greens were maybe 8-9 not fast but not slow. We never had a wait and we finished in 3 hours 45 minutes and if my gf was not with me, I would have played again.

After playing the Valley side first and after a Frost Delay in the morning my buddie and I still had time to play the Palms Side for an additional 18 holes. Conditions were absolutely great. The Palms... Continue »

After playing the Valley side first and after a Frost Delay in the morning my buddie and I still had time to play the Palms Side for an additional 18 holes. Conditions were absolutely great. The Palms Side is much more friendlier that the Valley side. But not to be fooled by its beauty and Wider fairways the Course still has some bit. It was great playing these 2 Courses. Customer Service at check in was great and friendly.

There hasn’t been one time where I’ve come to Palm Desert and not played the courses here. It never really fails to meet my expectations.

For being a resort course, the layout is a perfect blend of fun and challenge. The course is fairly open, but approach shots have to be on target in order to score well here, as every green is really well protected on all sides. There is a lot of undulation in the fairways as well, making for some deceptively tricky stances to hit from. There is a lot of water on this course, which brings a lot of beauty and fun to the layout, but also makes for some difficult course management.

Conditions wise, this course is always kept in great condition, even in the middle of August. The fairways were really green and lush with no bare spots, the rough was not too thick and pretty manageable, and the bunkers were decent, although they could use more sand in them. I could tell the greens had a good amount of time to recover from their aeration, because they were rolling really smoothly and pure the entire time.

It’s always so relaxing to play this course, and it’s definitely not overpriced, as the conditions are pretty fair for the pricing year round. I’d definitely recommend this course to anyone who hasn’t played it yet.
