Played in the GK Plays with GDR23, Pedro7170 & Cthuyen for $50 including a cart & prizes afterward. Thanks to Johnny GK for another well executed GK Plays! We played the Blues (71.6/127/6556) in 4H, 10M, so POP was good. Previous reviews were spot on, the customer service was excellent and the course was in excellent condition. Nice touch having the short game clinic beforehand, thanks! The tees were well maintained, no issues with level lies and the coverage was good. A few par 3's needed divot attention. Both the fairways and the rough were very good, more lush than thin. Nice lies in the fairways & the rough could be penal even though not overly long. The traps were crusty but not in bad condition overall. I was in 2 and they played better than I would have expected based on the way the texture felt under my shoes. The large greens putted nice overall, firm, more medium speed than medium fast. The pins were certainty set in tournament mode for the SCGA Mid-Am qualifier with many barely on the green, tucked behind mounds etc. Challenging to get chips close to some of the tucked away pins on the firm surface. However, the speed of the greens was slower than expected. They certainty did not seem to be running at the advertised 11 to 11 1/2. I thought the practice putting green was actually quicker than most of the greens on the course? I love this layout, 1st time I had played here in about 5 years. Course knowledge is essential on many holes to know where not to miss around some of the large green complexes. Around numerous greens are runoff areas where you are unlikely to get the ball up/down if you miss there. Well above average course that has 18 good to excellent golf holes. #18 is a classic finishing hole, long par 4 with water prominently in play on every shot. Easily one of the more enjoyable and fun to play courses I have ever teed it up on.

Played in the GK Plays outing yesterday 8/31/15 for $50. The price included a small tour of the Lorena Ochoa Golf Academy building, a short wedge clinic and a round playing in USGA mid-am qualifier conditions. Course conditions weren't as tough as I thought they would be but it is a good thing since my game decided not to show up.

Tee boxes were as good as always. A couple on the long side but flat and no damage. Fairways were awesome on the very few I was on and were a little dried out and gave some good roll. Even though the fairways were playing a little drier they were still very lush with only a couple thin areas that I saw. Rough was cut at about normal length in the 1"-3" range and coverage was really good. I was in two bunkers and both were crusty on top and not much sand underneath. Greens were said to be running at 11 to 11-1/2 but they seemed slow to me. I left way too many put really short thinking it would be quicker. A few were just bad strokes on my part too.

Met some great guys out there yesterday and my playing partners couldn't have been nicer. Thanks sr129, lotrgolfer and sngernz. I know I didn't meet too many new faces yesterday, I try to only learn a few at a time so I remember. So next time I look forward to meeting more. Finally got out to a GK plays, this one at Goose Creek out in the Riverside area. Johnny got us a great deal ($50) which included a neat short game session at their hi-tech golf academy with Scott and his crew who were giving semi-private chipping lessons. Much thanks, guys. If I lived anywhere near here I'd be hanging out and working on my game on a regular basis. The Goose always puts on a great show and today was no exception as far as conditions are involved (other than a crusty greenside bunker on #13 which I shouldn't have been in anyway). Best of all, we had the course all to ourselves today as we played behind the USGA Mid-Am qualifier. [Sorry to hear that fireballa24 didn't make the cut but there's always next time.] Had a great time playing with lotrgolfer48 (nice 310 drive on #12), mnehls86, and sr129. Super fun guys to golf with. And thanks again to Johnny for the swag and setting this up for us.

I participated in the GK Plays Event today at Goose Creek Golf Club, and had a thoroughly enjoyable time. This was my first time playing the course, so I played without any knowledge or expectation. The course, for the most part, is right there in front of you, except for the green complexes. The green complexes are set up to receive approaches from preferred angles - the only way to figure them out is to play the course a few times. Wind was a factor in the late afternoon, but it helped cool an otherwise warm and humid day. Chilled water was available from water coolers adjacent to several tee boxes, and drink cart service came around several times on both front and back nines. Pace of play was under 4 hours 30 minutes - our group didn't have to wait, nor were we pressed from behind. I played from the blue tees, which on this day were mostly set all the way back to accommodate USGA mid-am sectional qualifying. Tee boxes were level and lush, with only minimal divot damage on par 3 holes, but good teeing ground was easy to find - tees penetrated the ground easily. Fairways were in good condition, with mostly uniform turf coverage. I played from good lies on all of my fairway shots. Rough was generally lush, and not as deep nor as penal as I was expecting. I had to play from 1 fairway bunker, and 1 greenside bunker. Both had adequate, well maintained sand. Rakes were distributed around each bunker for easy tending. The greens, though difficult to approach on this day of USGA mid-am sectional qualifying, were some of the best that I have played recently. They held well hit approaches, while offering plenty of roll out for chips and pitches. Being that I played late in the afternoon, there were some footprints and ball marks, but otherwise the surfaces were smooth. Putts rolled true at medium to fast speeds - I really enjoyed putting on these greens! I look forward to returning to play again at the Goose - recommended.

Pretty stellar day at Goose Creek for the GK Plays. It was a top notch outing from start to finish. Really perfectly organized and efficient, yet relaxed, in every way. Worth every cent. The course was terrific. Challenging? Without a doubt, especially from the blue tees set up for the upcoming big tournament. But good shots would certainly be rewarded here, just hard to come by. We played the back 9 first and I found it to be somewhat trickier than the front 9, except for the par 3s - wow - not sure I can think of many courses with such diabolical par 3s. Layout is just phenomenal. Conditions were excellent. Minimal dry areas in the fairways and only one or two greens with slight damage - but the rest were superb - and very hard to read/judge speed. Also many collection areas lie in wait around the green complexes, so be wary. The tee boxes were all good, but even better were some of the beautifully shaped tee box launch areas, framed by tall bamboo or trees. The one time I was in sand it was very nice, but I also heard no complaints from my playing partners ... that was fun you guys. Service, frequent cart girl stops and plenty of ice cold water on almost every other hole made it all pretty great, especially on a hot day. Perhaps only small complaint would be to update the carts a bit - in such a hot place at minimum coolers with cold ice would be a huge upgrade. But don't let that take anything away from GC. What was odd was that it seemed like it was a rather long round, but I'm pretty sure we finished in just over 4 hours, but we never really waited on a single hole, nor were we ever pushed from behind. We just took our time (as I suspect many others did) enjoying the great scenery and the wonderful conditions. Goose Creek. Highly recommended.

Those of you old enough to remember the old ad line "nobody doesn't like Sara Lee", well the same should apply to the Goose. How can you not like this place? The conditioning as always was spot on. (However I found the greenside bunkers to be devoid of sand - too compacted!) Otherwise the course was in fantastic condition.

Off as the third group and finished in under 3 1/2 hours, beating the heat! Greens were much faster than they looked, rolled very true. Fairways had some brown spots, but played just fine. Always enjoy my time at the Goose, just wish they would slow down the price increases

Played Saturday 6/27 with my wife. Club house service was excellent. Was supposed to have a 2some go out in front of us and we were to be paired with another couple. Well on the first tee the other couple joined the 2 some and my wife and I went out alone at 11.07. I must say that was the slowest round I have ever played at Goose Creek. On the 9th hole (par 3) we waited to allow this fast playing 2 some to play thru us. Little did we know the 9th hole was their last hole of the day, LOL but then we said well that took a good 12 to 15 minutes so maybe we got some separation from that slow group in front of us. RIGHT, we caught the on hole 12. Unfortunately by hole 14 it started to bother me and my wife had to calm me down. They were teeing off on 17 and we finished 16 when they said to us, "we would let you play through but there is a 4some in front and you won't get very far" I said that 4some is just leaving the 17th green you are a full hole behind, I said never mind we only have 2 holes left. Man this is one time I wish I would have seen a marshall and I know Goose really does not send them out. 4 hours and 45 minutes at Goose is just not acceptable. As far as the course, my wife and I love this layout, but I am betting that Goose had a tournament Friday because some of the greens were more dinged up than I have ever seen them here. One par 3 even had the remains of a circle around the hole. LOL Maybe the tournament was Saturday morning. Either way we really like it here and will be back.

Have you ever seen a negative review on Goose Creek? Well, the answer is probably, no. I couldn't imagine anyone not enjoying the layout of the course, the immaculate conditions of the course, or the top notch customer service. With that being said, I have never seen Goose in better shape than it is right now. Today, we had an afternoon time and we couldn't have asked for better conditions. The course was extremely green and lush, the fairways played fast, and the greens were as smooth as any public course I have ever played. The course superintendent and staff should be commended. If you haven't played Goose, you are missing out on one of Southern California's gems. Go play it now, you will not regret it!
