Another great event planned and executed By Johnny GK and helpers. Also thanks to Larry Cloud and the PLGA for moderating the scores as well. This course is playable if you choose the right tee box. They had it right for our event Saturday. I have never seen so many people on a practice green at the same time! There are two courses out there and another huge tournament event was going on.
The course was in great shape. The fairways were as good as it gets. The rough didn't seem to be too long but it could do some damage to your shot if you don't hold onto your club a little tight to keep it from closing. Also forget any roll out of the ball if hit into the rough. It just grabbed the ball and stopped it cold. The greens were perfect. They held any long ball coming in very well. But when chipping they were diabolical fast. I could not believe the roll out on some of the shots. The breaks for me were very hard to read, but as I witnessed, if you know how to read them the putts will fall. Gary was lights out on the greens! The sand was somewhat moist and not as much bounce needed to get out. Some of those bunkers had some mean lips to go over. I was in too many bunkers and had many opportunities to test the sand.
Overall a great test of golf. The back nine is much more difficult that the front. Great course and service, put this one on your must play list.

A golf course for adults. I played in the GK/PLGA event as well. If you think you're going to go out and bring this course to its knees, think again. A course that really makes you think.

No complaints about the conditions. Tee to green, as good as it gets in Southern California. But it's a tough course!! I'd have to be up for a day of torture to want to go again.

And I played fairly well, too...shot 92...breaking 90 would be a real chore! Course knowledge helps. Even with the yardage books, it helps to play with someone who has played it before. While the rough may not have been up to "PGA Q-school" length, it's still best to stay out of it!! Pay strict attention to pin-position! Being on the wrong level....guarantees a three-putt. Tricky greens. Deceptively fast, seeing how they were soft and held all shots well.

Oh. Except for a skulled wedge. Those shots end up in the deep brush!

A six-hour round...that was a bit much. I had to keep asking myself: Was I really playing with all those fellow GK'ers who post here on the Forum about how much they hate slow play??? Six freaking hours. I'm sorry...but golf at that pace is just no fun for me. Add two hours to Beaumont (each way) and then dinner...that's twelve hours I want back!

The staff at East Valley could not have been better. And it's a great track that is worth playing.

But... like little Rodney Alan Rippey used to say in those old Jack in the Box commercials about the size of the Jumbo Jack...

"It's too big a eat!"

I gotta take a month off after a day like that!

Played on October 18, 2008 in the joint PLGA/GK outing. Great layout and service. Nice clubhouse and practice facility. The pretty young ladies around the cart barn and club drop were very helpful. Course is tight but fair if played from the right tees. Greens rolled fast, fairways were excellent with a few exceptions, notably some wet areas on or near some fairways and rough. Lots of elevation changes throughout the course with highly contoured greens. Many bunkers has huge walls to clear if you ended up there. Good thing the rough was mowed, because any higher in some areas would mean big numbers for the average golfer. Sand traps looked like they could use more sand, but it was not bad and the quality of sand was great. Overall, a top notch facility and worth going out of your way for. Thank you EVGC, PLGA, and Johnny for making this a great outing!

I have played this golf course for a long time and this course is in excellent shape. I played on 9/19, just a couple of days after they had a PGA championship tournament and the greens were very smooth and fast. They seem to have done quite a bit of work to the bunkers as they were very playable and easy to hit out of. I can't wait to see how the course plays next month when they have PGA Tour Q-School. Just an outstanding place to play golf that never disappoints. You can tell that there is less staff working there now, but this is one of the few courses that haven't compromised service and quality because of our poor economy. A MUST PLAY!

Played morning of 9/20. The course is in terrific condition. Maybe the best I've seen in a long time. Even the notorious "sand-less" bunkers were dragged. Tees, fairways, rough, and especially the greens were in superior shape. The food still is good, but I did notice that the staffing throughout the entire facility seems to be lacking. Perhaps new owner Mr. Lee is trying to save a few nickels. I sure hope he doesn't cut back too much because this is just a great facility with some nice people working there.

Played in the morning on 9/26/08. Staff was friendly and efficient. Pace of play was good. This was my first time playing the course, and having some local knowledge will help you manage your way around the course. Need to stay on the fairway off the tee, or you could easily lose your ball. Rough is thick and can grab the club. Pay attention to the pin placements because many of the greens are tiered. Greens putting surfaces were in excellent condition. Bunkers are tough because of their depth and very thin layer of sand on top. Overall the course is in very good shape right now.

Played 9/20, thought I would go play this course since I am planning on driving out there for the event. The greens are fast, and are a little tricky in spots. They rolled smooth and there didn't seen to be much ball mark damage. Fairways were nice and the rough wasn't super long but was thick, you have to hammer down on the ball to get any kind of normal flight. My only problem was the traps, they were hard and some were harder, almost impossible to use a club with any bounce because you couldn't get the club under the ball.

The course is tough, but it seems like you can really benefit from playing the course multiple times. I found myself driving up to the landing area before I hit off the tee a few times because I wasn't sure where to put the ball.

Some of the tee boxes were very wet and mushy, along with some areas on the course, I am sure weather has a part in that. It is a 100 deg out here today. All in all a nice track.
