Sorry it's been awhile since I have posted a review. Hard to get out when you have twin 9 month old babies. Anyways my score definitely showed here...... First time out in 2 months and shot my worst score in 3 years 108! Yikes! Now to the conditions.... I do have an excuse because the rough on this course is THE HARDEST I HAVE EVER PLAYED. I couldn't get out of it no matter what! Ball would be buried. I felt like I was playing Bethpage black with the length of it.

Greens- 10/10 great and rolled true!
Rough- 1/10 - Too long ! beyond penalizing. A 2 Iron couldnt even cut threw it. 3-4 inches in length!
Fairways- 8/10 trim and good coverage a few bare spots
tee boxes- 5/10 - hit and miss some were great and some were not
sand- 8/10- hole #3 had rocks in it but most were ok.
water- clean and clear
Pace of play was good- 4.5 hours despite me crapping all over the course
staff was friendly and kind saw the cart girl twice.

If you're in the fairway its a fair course. Note- If you're not, there's no way you are saving par! This is coming from a 16 handicap! =)

Played 4-3-21. Course is in great shape for the most part. Greens ran true with good speed. Some were quite marked up with ball marks. A few looked like the surface of the moon. The Legends course was closed so everyone was on Champions so it was backed up a bit. Had a 2:30 tee time and got out pretty much on time. At the 8th tee the cart girl suggested we play the front 9 again if we wanted to finish in a reasonable time so we did. The rough was deep in places and barely there in others but on the negative there were spots where it was very clumpy and your ball could settle in between and become almost unplayable. Biggest disappointment was the sand. It was 1 step above concrete. Forget everything you have ever learned about bunker play. Overall it was still a fun day of golf and I hope to get back out there a few times this year!

Played this morning in the SCGA Amat Net Qualifier...last flight 9:30am hole 10. Paired with real gentlemen, Darin, Mo, and Edwin. They represent thier clubs well.
We had winds really come up starting about hole 12, had to really plan the shots due to it. TuKwet's bar is still closed and no food, but the drink cart came around about twice on each 9. The range is open and in much greener shape than previous reports. The practice greens were both open and matched the champions green conditions.
Tee boxes were in fair shape, many divots and most were pretty firm. No problem finding a spot to hit from, but, I could have easily used a half a sand bottle on each box.
Fairways, liked them. They are in a good balance right now, on thier way to lush, with some winter roll-out still there, yet they will now start eating some of the ball energy on the first bounce. Good coverage right to the edge of rough and bunkers.
Rough, thick and rich like a shake, not a DQ Blizzard, just a regular shake. About 2 inches thick and will be factor in your recovery shots from it. Right now, the blades of rough are still thinner and not as lush.
Bunkers, have sand, are void of rocks and there are rakes. However, the sand is darker, slightly reddish and gets dense quickly. About a half inch on top will give easily, below that it goes dense pretty quickly. It seems to hold moisture all day too.
Areas around greens were/are similar to the rough, just a smidge shorter. All my weapons are sharp and with little bounce, so I had little issue going after a pitch or a flop. Because we had a tournment, any areas aroung the greens that were still trying to emerge, or had some kind of old guy bald spots(not many)...they were marked within white lines for relief.
Greens, these were pretty good, slightly firm under the feet and not many ball marks occurring. Uniform speeds and breaks, to me, these were running med-fast. The mid-roll breaks were pretty easy to read and execute. The final slower trailing breaks were tougher, but if you had reads without breaks...they would still roll true.

No foam in cups, rakes in bunkers, gps on carts(good, my LRF battery began to die on the last 3 holes) that is pretty acurate. Bathrooms open and all clean. Customer service quick and thorough.

A shout out to the SCGA staff for being engaging, patient, guiding and human. BTW, my cart partner Darin, got an eagle on hole 4, and then followed that up by driving the green on hole 5 for a birdie look. He also qualified highest in his flight and will compete in the actual tournament at La Costa...congrats!!

Played before Sundsy morning before the Super Bowl. 7:52 tee time. They had both courses open . Its been a while. pace of play around 4 hours. Just missed the rush. Course is in decent shape. Im interested in seeing the turnaround for the Symetra tour in March. Right now its not looking ready. Fairway bunkers are being cleaned up. Greenside bunkers are in need of sand. Fairways look good. Greens rolled great!

First time playing the Champions layout and I have to say that I had an almost visceral negative reaction to the Back 9 holes that they were starting groups out on that day. Frost delay caused a nearly 1 hour delay pushing my 10am tee time to nearly 11 as we sat around the 10th tee and chatted with the started for over a half an hour. By the time we teed off, the earlier warm up had gone cool and the whole group struggled with all the tilted, skinny, over bunkered and uninspired holes on the back 9. The front 9 felt a lot more open and natural and counterbalanced the back 9 - so overall - not a course I hate but would play the Legends and the course across the street every time before playing here again.

Both courses were open due to high demand and the starter said this would be the rare year that the courses actually made some money. Conditions of the greens were good - about as fast as I can stand greens with this many tiers. Fairways mostly good, we all had to move a ball occasionally due to mud or other problems. Beyond that, I would say that the course had so many places that should have been marked GUR that I'm not surprised they didn't bother. Use your judgement. Bunkers are big, deep and usually contain a puddle in them (starter said they don't drain) Where they aren't submerged, you hit from a 1 inch or less layer of damp sand.

Customer service was good but it's weird how nonchalant they can be about a one hour delay to somebody's tee time. They also were out of score cards and I guess didn't think to try anything other than saying "not our fault" when people continually asked for one. The flip side was that I told my sob story of driving 1.5 hours just to play golf here and take my score card as a memento of my visit and a manager took pity on me and walked down to his office and found one of the few remaining scorecards on the whole property for just me. (nobody else in my group got one) So, I personally have to say a big "Thank You!!" for that.

Played here for the first time on Black Friday. We had a 707 tee time but was delayed for 45 minutes due to a freeze on the greens. Once we started, POP was about 4 hours 10 minutes. I really enjoyed this course. The course was in great shape and the greens were really fast. The layout was fun with many challenging holes. I know many people drive to Palm Springs for golf trips but I will tell you the two courses here and Oak Valley across the street are great courses and is 30 minutes closer from LA. I definitely recommend this course to anyone who hasn’t played it and I can’t wait to come back and play the Legends course.

Played Friday at 11:00, No starter and about 20 minutes behind because of early frost I guess. Starting Champions on back 9 is a challenge without a warm up and those players with a higher handicap or short off tees really slow play as double boggy or worse is going to be their outcome. after almost 3 hours we finely headed to the front nine, which thank goodness has 6 forgiving holes so just over 2 hours...course in fair shape, green very nice..always a challenge on the Champions, like many Legends is more to my 15 handicap ability. I always take myself out to play the Champions side when my handicap is on the verge of dropping because it is really a challenge for a short hitter even from the whites.

I had a great experience playing Morongo Golf Club. The staff was friendly and helpful, regardless of COVID restrictions. They have a cool doughnut shaped practice putting green that's in good condition and naturally felt like it had people social distancing. Overall course conditions were great. Greens rolled fast and true. The layout was fun but challenging. A couple of tempting derivable par 4s that would be much more reachable after playing the hole a couple of times and knowing the right line for a blind drive. The rough will make you pay, and I would say it's longer than most public courses. It's a totally different course from white tees to blue tees to the tips, represented pretty accurately by the slope rating for each.

Played 4/27/20 Morongo has potential to be world class. Great layout, fun holes, greens are nice and tricky. However management has never been able to make that happen. The usual issues with bunkers not being maintained but at least had more sand in them than they used to. My biggest issue is that after a prolonged shutdown due to covid 19, they couldn't find a way to mow the rough. 6inches plus and thick! Spent a lot of time looking for balls hit a couple of feet off of fairways or greens. Drainage issue on 11th hole has created a pool of stagnant water right in the landing zone on the fairway. It felt like Morongo is trying to get back all lost revenue as quickly as possible, (70 bucks on a Monday). Also it appears that they're not spending money on anything that they don't absolutely have to. All signage on the course seems to be gone, no scorecards, lots of weeds everywhere. etc.
