Played 9/11 in an annual shotgun tourney. Course is in excellent all around condition right now. Only minor bummer was they sanded the greens recently. Didn't really affect uphill puts, but side hill and down hill tended to be a little bumpy and caused a knucle ball effect on those putts. The greens did hold shots very well. POP was not bad at 4:30 for a scramble. White teeboxes were nearly perfect all around. Fairways were also nearly perfect, bermuda grass, lush with good cushion and perfect roll out. Rough wasn't too penal, but it was in good shape. Didn't play out of the bunkers, but they looked just fine. Customer service was perfect, they know what they're doing with a tournament. Wish I played enough to become a member, it would be good choice to join. Highly recommend if you ever get an invite.

I was invited to play in another great scramble tournament yesterday at this great private club. This isn't a pretentious atmosphere, whatsoever. I've played here many times over the past 30 years and always have a blast. Conditions were about the same as we had last tournament. Greens are always great here. Very receptive and putt extremely true with hardly ever any bumpiness. They're a little tricky to read, but that adds to the challenge of this course as it's not very long. The par 3's are all very challenging.

Fairways are nearly perfect. Great cushion with adequate roll. No complaints.

Didn't find a bunker, but they looked great.

Teeboxes were all level and had plenty of coverage.

Rough was moderate length and didn't look too difficult to hit out of. We were playing a scramble, so the two times we missed the fairway, we were able to place the ball in a nice spot. It does get thick and juicy, so beware.

Customer service was excellent!!! They do a great job handling huge tournaments.

If you're ever invited to play, don't pass it up. Nice ocean breezes and a great layout. Highly recommend.

Got a last minute invite to play from a long time friend who's a member. Played Friday, 5/20, so the review is a few days late. Teed off at 12:30 and finished right at 4:30. POP is rarely ever an issue here, the members play fast. I believe the guest fee is around $100, but my buddy wouldn't let me pay, so I covered drinks and food for the day.

Course is super fun, always a delight to play here. Don't pass on the opportunity if it comes your way. Conditions are always good to great. Nothing super spectacular, but never any problems. Teeboxes were all nice and level, plenty of coverage, very little divot damage. Fairways were super nice, just perfect. Found one bunker greenside and it was just fine, no problems whatsoever. Rough was lush and a few inches high, bermuda is coming back in strong, tighten your grip and swing down firm. Greens looked like they were aerated last month. Still showing a little sign of the punch marks, but putts still rolled true and they were very fast!! Tricky greens here and the cups were placed in some very precarious positions. Had a drink in the wonderful bar upstairs. Customer service always top notch here.

Played here today (6/3) as part of a Balboa Park Men's Club outing on a cool and misty day with a scheduled 8:15, actual 8:30 AM shotgun start. This was only my second event with the club and the first outside the home course and it was an enjoyable time, even if one particular group member was a bit anal about everything. I had low expectations for the course and conditions, but was really surprised in just about every way. Even with abnormal San Diego weather, this was a good private track.

Tee boxes: This may have been one of the weaker features of the course today and saying that, they were still more than playable. Everyone today played the whites so that had something to do with it, but a few were uneven and a few were chewed up. Again, nothing that ruined the round, just something of note.

Fairways: Excellent condition. They popped with forest green color and they offered very generous lies. Today's weathers conditions did not allow any significant roll, but the natural contours of the landscape on any given day would really let good drives roll.

Rough: Thick and penal (and wet). It was not fun to hit out of and really made you prioritize good aim. Even more penal than the rough is the absurd amount of OB present all over the course. There wasn't one hole in which OB stakes didn't line the outer limits of the rough.

Bunkers: Great condition. The sand is more beach than Pebble, but the condition and consistence of the grains was ideal. I don't remember the amount of sand being a problem and every one was raked well.

Greens: The highlight of the course; some of the best conditioned greens I have played on in years, even comparable to the San Diego Country Club though slower. The morning dew played tricks with the speed all day, but the green complexes were still quick and tricky; not one straight putt all day.

ETC: Everyone at the course treated the Balboa club like members. Carts had good haul speed and good but sensitive breaks and no GPS sadly. Facilities were modest and what you would expect from a country club from the 1960's. Nice restroom facilities throughout the course. No cart attendant today, but a food stand at the halfway point and Balboa was nice enough to provide vouchers. If you get the chance to come out and can finagle a good price under $75, make the easy trip out.

Our home is in Keowee Key in Upstate SC, and we are vacationing in La Jolla CA for 7 weeks. We were able to join the Lomas Santa Fe as temporary non-resident members, and have been very pleased with the facilities. The staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful. On arrival the head Pro took us on a full tour of the course. After almost a week of rain, carts were restricted to path only, but fairway drainage is good. After several sunny days, that restriction was lifted. The course is mostly wide open, with many, often deep bunkers. Greens are very receptive and consistent, with some challenging contours and level changes. Situated in the hills above Solana Beach, there are numerous views of the ocean to the west. Homes line most of the course, and there are many parallel fairways. So far our experience here has been very positive, and we look forward to a lot more golf during the remainder of our stay.

Fortunately, I was playing with 3 old college roommates, but the course did not impress. Reminded me of RB Inn with a touch more slope and slightly better conditions. The greens were fast and deceptive to all. Truly the highlight to the round. I hate to say it, but if I had the money this would not be my course. Maybe... the rest of the amenities might make up for the lackluster golf. The pool and the remodeled clubhouse looked nice.

Had the chance to play this course today on a mem for a day outing. Staff is friendly and helpful. Practice range was closed for mowing but pro-shop guy called head of facilities management and they agreed to open the range for 1 hour to accommodate the 20 or so people that had signed up.

Conditions were quite good considering the course received 1.5 inches of rain in the last two days. Tee boxes were flat and moved closely. Fairways are well marked with yardage indicators, defined very well by the cut. Lush with good hitting conditions. Some minor areas of GUR but nothing that came into play from the tee for average or above average distance. Rough was painful very fluffy Kikuyu grass combined with the previous mentioned moisture made distance control difficult. Rough was on average 3 inches deep.
Greens were immaculately maintained, held shots well and lighting quick. Several required 10-12 inches of break. Greens also contain several barely visible ridges and spines that influence putts dramaticly. Although bunkers are well maintained with a variety of long slopping fronts and quick raising, steep faces, I found the sand coverage to be slightly lacking in depth maybe 2-3 inches in most green side and slightly less in fairway.
Overall it's a nice course. A bit far for me from Northern OC so going back for that reason would be a challenge when 65.00 bucks can get several IE courses.

Took advantage of the "member for a day" special to gain the opportunity to play this course. I found the course to be in overall excellent condition. The greens were very soft, receptive and rolled true. The sand in the greenside bunkers were possibly the best I've played this year - anywhere. Fairways were green and lush, almost to the point of being "sloppy" To wet for my taste, which provided little roll and made the course play longer than its yardage. Played the "Player" tees which was all I could handle today.

Saw fellow GK'er Sixpez and took his lead and skipped a few holes to get ahead of the masses. Good decision because we played 24 holes in about 3 1/2 holes, instead of the 4 1/2 to 5 hours it would have taken had we stayed in position.

Course was OK, nothing special, but glad I played it. Fun to play a "new" course, which for me is tough to find.
