Played Nov 14, 1024am tee time. Even though this is on MCAS Miramar military base, the Public are welcome. Short review: Come play for the AWESOME greens that you would normally have to pay big bucks for and don't take the fairways or rough too seriously. Easy, Flat course to have a good time at. Long review: Check-in was easy, and the course was very busy (as expected) for a Saturday on base. We teed-off on time but were playing behind a slow foursome. Yet, We still finished in 4 hours 35 minutes! Now for the course conditions. GREENS: Miramar has always been known for their excellent greens, and they did not disappoint!! Arguably the best greens in San Diego. Super smooth, semi-soft, and quick but not too quick. Hardly any ball marks as well. FAIRWAYS & ROUGH: This is always the downfall of Miramar, but its still not too bad in my opinion. The fairways have bare spots almost every hole but also very lush spots every hole. The rough gets a little more hard pan at times if you're way off line, but all still playable. Also a few spots where a little marshy but thats few and far between. I never really had a bad lie all day. TEE BOXES: Overally, the tee boxes were average, some better than others, some a little un-level. Nothing that affected my tee shots though. BUNKERS: They were in really good shape!! Looks like they were raked in the morning, and they all have fresh sand from what I saw. I used to work here several years ago but haven't played it in several years so it was nice to be back.

Played on a sunny Sunday and the course is in overall good shape.
The Greens were recovering nicely from their punching and rolling well but still bumpy which threw a couple of putts off line, but overall, not bad and will be great in another week or two.

Fairways and Tee boxes are in good shape and have great coverage with very little divot damage and never had a bad lie in the fairway.

Rough is brutal and very hard to find wayward golf balls. Looks benign but is far from it and the ball sinks into the clover/grass and nestles down, hard to play from at times. Keep your eye on the ball or you won't find it.

Very enjoyable and worth the efforts.

Played in the morning of 8/7. Showed up as a walk on and was put on the tee right away.

This was my second time playing here and I must say I enjoy the course, especially for the value. The course itself is pretty flat since it is located on an air base, but there is enough diversity in hole shapes and/or lengths to make things from getting too repetitive. Dollar for dollar, I don't think there are greens anywhere in San Diego that roll truer than these. The fairways are a little patchy right now with the drought, but not terrible. I wasn't in any bunkers, but the ones that my playing partners were in were well manicured and seemed to have more than enough sand in them.

With the course being relatively flat, it's very walkable. Pace of play was excellent, water stations were ample, and the course ranger was out and patrolling without intruding.

Highly recommended for anyone that can get access!

Played on Sat morning at 8:30am, check in was easy, not too crowded, $35 to walk, not too shabby for saturday, easy flat course to walk.

Teeboxes were in pretty good shape, par 3s were a little chewed up, but you could usually find a level spot to put the tee. Rough was definitely there, but not killer high and thick. It caused a little havoc, but I managed to stay clear of it for the most part. Found one bunker and it was ok, little hard pan from the rain we had a couple of days prior, so thats to be expected. They seemed playable, however. Fairways were in pretty good shape, fairly lush and not much divot damage. They were soft from the recent rain and a little shaggy, so not much roll, but had a lot of great lies. Greens were real nice, very receptive and soft, and putted true. They were in great shape. Overall, enjoyed the day, POP was at 4hrs which is great for a weekend. I'd recommend the course, it's treelined and mature, but a little flat for my liking.

Played Monday 3/23. Teed off at 9:20 and finished in 3:45 as a twosome. The Greens are in good condition. They held shots and rolled smooth with medium/fast pace. The fairways are in good condition. The rough is fair to good. The bunkers are fair and a little bit thin on sand. The tee boxes are good. The course is flat and mostly straight forward. Water comes into play a few times. The layout is enjoyable to play. The driving range is grass and the ball machine takes 1s and 5s. The staff is friendly.

When you arrive at the East Gate (Miramar Way off I-15) the guard will direct you into the building by the gate. Show drivers license, car registration, and insurance card inside to receive a vehicle pass. Passengers must present ID as well. Sign inside said golfers can NOT get on base earlier than one hour before tee time. The process took about 5 minutes.

The course is in overall good condition. The greens are in great condition. They rolled smooth and fast while holding good shots. The fairways had a fair number of small marked GURs but outside of that the fairways had good coverage. The rough, bunkers, and tee boxes are good. The course is flat and mostly straight forward. There is a good variety of length of holes. The greens complexes hold the most challenge especially when the green speed is fast. There is a driving range, practice putting green, and chipping area. The clubhouse coffee shop has been contracted to Denny's (open 24/7) and there is a separate bar area with inside and outside seating.

MCAS website reads, "all guest walk-on play must call the golf shop prior to coming to the course at 858-577-4155 and give the names of all players planning to come play. At that time, your name(s) will be forwarded to the PMO staff at the East Gate to ensure authorization to enter the station. Access will not be granted if this procedure is not followed."

Course is in decent shape. Greens r receptive to well struck shots. Fairways r OK. Rough is spotty (crap shoot on whether u get a "flier lie." Worth the $29 I paid on GN.

Last round of Labor Day weekend today. Grabbed a $27 GN hot deal at 11:04. It was busy out there and we waited on most shots, but my group teed off on time and finished in about 4 hours 15 minutes, so not bad. Make sure you enter at the East Gate (I-15 and Miramar Way) and have your ID, registration and insurance card ready to show the guard. As previous posters have mentioned, the greens here are the highlights in terms of design and conditioning. They are nice, soft and roll true. Beyond that, the course is hit and miss. (25% hit, 75% miss). I will say it looked decent with more green than brown, but the maintenance was very inconsistent. I was really worried early as the first couple fairways looked like they haven't been mowed in a week--very shaggy with thick kikuyu, so very tough to play from. After that, though, they at least seemed to be mowed a bit more but were still a mixed bag and you never got much roll-out at all. You'd find anything from thin, bare hardpan to shaggy sections to nice spots. Rough about the same, just longer where there was grass. The ball really sits down here, so the rough makes you work. Tee boxes mostly pretty good other than typical divot damage on the par-3s. I wasn't in any bunkers, but they appeared OK from what I observed. Very flat and basic layout, so nothing too exciting here. A handful of somewhat fun holes like 7 & 8, but mostly pretty straightforward without too much trouble to get into. I wouldn't go too far out of my way to play here unless you are on a "play everything" quest like me : )
