Played Monday 10/8 @ 7:40am. PoP was 4:10. Course is in average shape. Lots of bare spots on the fairways and rough. Decent amount of divot damage on the greens. All in all, impressed with the pace of play but the conditions of the course have gone downhill in the last few years

Walked on as a single Monday morning at 9am. Used the GK coupon and check in was smooth, pro shop put me out with a 9:30 tee time behind a mini tournament. Checked in with starter and he paired me up with another single and sent us to the first tee before the tournament. Nice!
They seem to have trouble growing grass in the first 75 yards of the fairways, pretty much painted green dirt. Rough was pretty much the same way. Tees and bunkers are in good shape. Greens were excellent. Firm, smooth and rolling fast with some subtle breaks that made three footers interesting. POP was a little under four hours. Place was busy but operating smoothly.
GK coupon was a great deal, did see a few walkers but could not find the rate and when I went to check with starter he was swamped. Layout is what you see is what you get.

Played with a bachelors party group on Thursday 2/8, three groups teeing off starting at 12 pm. The check in was, like always, slow. A room full of people and one register going. When I got to the desk there was some confusion as we had been told a rate of $35, but we were charged $49? No worries, we got sent out, a couple players from out of town needed rentals and those clubs were there set up in their cart ready to go . . . on to the course.
Tees: flat enough, with enough coverage to play from, so fine
Fairways: some patchy areas, some dirt areas, not visually pleasing but playable for the most part
Rough: pretty much ditto from the fairways just a bit longer, 1 to 2 inches were there was some
Bunkers: actually some of the best bunkers I've played from in the last couple years . . . let's just say, better than most
Greens: firm, quick and very nice condition almost on par with the bunkers
POP: pace of play was great as we were the first of the three groups out and finished 3 holes ahead
Customer service: was excellent from the snack cart to the 19th hole which kept the kitchen open a bit late for our group which was nice.
Recommendation: sure, it's a mostly mellow golf experience with the only improvements need being check-in and the fairway/rough, but it's been a long time since it's rained making that a tough proposition. The rumor is the place may only be there for another year to so, so go play it before it's gone!

Such a shame if we truly lose such a cool, convenient, golf facility!

Played Presido / Mission combo yesterday. Another love hate day with Riverwalk. Played a few times recently and always seemed to get stuck behind a lot of fiversomes. Yesterday was different. Course was busy but the tee times were well spaced out and no real issues.

The course is a mixed bag. The tee boxes were good, flat and nice coverage. Fairways were just average. Lots of hard dirt and grass. They were cut tight so you got a lot of roll. The greens were better than average with some bumps here and there but smooth. Sand was good, a little wet even for a late morning round but still able to get out ok.

I don’t think the course is worth the regular rate in its current condition. If you can find a good deal than grab it.

Played Friars Friday afternoon. Didn't finish in time / but due to the holiday course was busy.

I was hoping the turf was completely set but not quite yet. The fairways are almost back to normal. The turf has grown up but it looks like they were aerated not too long ago. Sections are still blocked off but you can hit off them now. Lies a=can be bumpy and sandy so winter rules are in effect. The fairways on the par 3's were rough

Around the greens is great. Very lush. Greens were great. A few were bumpy but most were great. Being how much play river walk gets there will always be lots of ball marks. Fairways are hard packed so you can get a lot of roll right now making the course play short.

It was a beautiful day for golf and Friars is almost back to being a normal course. Course is chewed up but if you can get a discount its worth playing if you live close for twilight.

Coworker wanted to play after work so we walked on to play a few holes at Friars. The course is doing much better. The greens were mowed so they were able to roll a little. To recover from the recent punch the greens are being overwatered so they were still soggy. The grass is looking good but there were still too many spike marks to putt consistently. They had laid brand new sod on the fairways at Friars and its finally looking like it has taken hold. The rough was mown and the overseeding appears to be helping. Give it a few weeks and Friars may make a comeback. The best part if all is that they have finally trimmed down the reeds and brush along the river. When I say trimmed I mean buzz cut. I really can't wait to come back when the turf is back and Riverwalk is healthy again. We skipped over to Presidio to finish towards the clubhouse and with the reeds trimmed you can see all the way to pin on #5. In fact you couldnt see the dropoff so it looked like the entire hole was pure grass. Defiitely changed the complexion of a difficult hole and easily brings driving the river into play now.

Walked on today after work to get a few holes in on Mission. They punched the greens a few weeks ago and this was my first time back. Greens are looking lush no sand. Unfortunately they are still lumpy leaving lots of spike marks making putting near impossible. The fairways are looking a little better after the zombie apocalypse the floods caused here. Fortunately, around the greens were nice and lush helping to redeem some playability. The bunkers need some serious TLC. They are low on sand and many had roots sticking out sometimes longer than 5 inches long. Roots in bunkers is grounds keeper laziness in my opinion. I have one of the memberships so I get on cheaply and this is the closest full size course to my work. If it weren't for those factors this is one of the worst values in golf right now in San Diego. If I were to pay the $99 weekend rack rate to play here I would be absolutely appalled. This is a great track and my home course essentially. It is a shame the conditions have gotten so poor. Typically the greens are the redeeming quality but being under repair there is little to offer here currently in my opinion.

Very fun morning Thursday out with 6 others GK Gurus to play Riverwalk. We played the Presidio to Mission combo teeing off at 7:37. It was a good pace of play at 4:15 with some overcast giving away to sunshine. I thought the golf course was in very good condition with the greens leading the way. I don’t think I’ve ever played this course and the greens had not been at least in very good shape. They were mostly smooth (only bumpy at times due to ball mark damage), holding shoots and medium/fast. I thought the fairways were in better shape this time around with almost all of the past trouble spots gone or re-sodded. Again, I’m talking about the Presidio and Mission nines, not the Friars nine. However, Riverwalk is currently re-sodding many of the fairways on the Friars nine so look for that course over time to have good coverage too. Rough was mostly lush/at times thin adjacent to the fairways but lush greenside. Greenside bunkers were in good shape with decent quality sand to play from and the fairway bunkers I experienced were rather compacted but very suitable to hit from. Tee boxes mostly lush, level and in good shape.

Something I noticed about playing the Presidio – Mission combo. On Presidio nine almost all the big trouble in on the right side of golf holes. On the Mission nine it’s a pretty even split. Also the vegetation in the river that runs through the course needs to be trimmed. On holes 5 & 8 of the Presidio nine your view to the pin is obstructed too much. My favorite hole of the two nines, likely every one’s favorite hole, is #3 of the Mission 9. The green complex is stunning with its small creek/waterfalls draining into a lake protecting the front of the green and right side of the hole. Lastly, hole 9 on the Mission 9 is a beast of the finishing hole. I don’t think I’ve ever finished out with the ball I started with on the tee!

This is a challenging enjoyable layout that gets lots of play being in the heart of San Diego. I always have a great time out there and look forward to playing it again. Posted some fresh photos to take a look at :)

Played morning of 7/27 with the Guru's from the blues on the Presidio/Mission combo. Being my first time here I didn't really know what to expect other than "Flattish and next to a river." Flattish might not do it quite enough justice as the Robinsons, Ted were able to incorporate a bit of undulation on an overall very flat property. The river comes into play on several holes in addition to several water features sprinkled in. All in all it's a more inspired design than I'm used to from a Robinson course (a good thing). Conditioning-wise, the greens are definitely the star and would even be more so if people learned to fix ball marks. I spent lots of time gardening on the greens, let's leave it at that. Teeing grounds were solid, usually level, and maybe a hair long on those more dominated by kikuyu. Fairways were typically okay despite the patches of different grasses everywhere. Several wet spots did show up from time to time and they are working on re-sodding portions of Mission #3. Rough was pretty decent, especially the kikuyu areas. POP was a solid 4 hr 10 min and the service all around was very good.
