Played the Mission / Friars combo on Monday morning. Pace was good at just over 4 hours. The conditions are a mixed bag. Depends on which nine you play. Mission in overall just ok shape. Most all tee boxes in good shape. All most all fairways had some large areas of ground under repair. It look liked they were preparing to re-sod a lot of the areas. Greens were in ok shape, lots of ball marks. Sand was mostly poor with most bunkers having little sand and hard to play from. Friars was in worse shape. Most tee boxes were decent enough to hit from. Fairways were dried out and looked like they were dying. Greens still haven't recovered from maintenance. If you want to play here try to find a good deal and avoid the friars 9.

Played here on 3/4 vs. Long4Par. Great match but the course left some things to be desired. As previous review mentioned, it would have been nice if the course had alerted people that it would be having Golf Fest at its facilities BEFORE you booked a tee-time. On to the review...

Tee-boxes: Good shape with no one hole being too beat up and all offering some room to plant your tee. Markers seemed to be really limit the tee area but the ground itself was soft.

Fairways: Overall okay condition. Some holes looked green and lush while others had lots of hard pan or GUR areas. The roll on every fairways was good though and I only found one lie that would truly affect my shot.

Rough: Not very penal and inconsistent in terms of what was offered. Like the fairways, one hole could have 3 inch rough that could really hold back your club while another could be bare and lack in penalizing a bad shot.

Greens: Excellent shape overall with speedy roll and great conditions. Previous review was correct in saying the speed was much faster than you would imagine.

Bunkers: Varied from good to great, some had fluffy white sand others had harder brown dirt-style sand. Lots of rakes.

ETC: Golf Fest ruined the atmosphere and the practice facilities were of little use. Carts had GPS. Starter did a good job in keeping everything as calm as possible. Overall, wait until you can get a good deal.

Played at the Presidio/Mission combo. Onto the conditions, The course is an overall good playing shape. Most two boxes were fairly lush and level. The fairways were in OK condition with some brown spots and lots of ground under repair. Greens were in very good shape the Presidio nine or much faster than the mission nine. Piece of play was pretty good in about four hours.

Overall the course is in good shape and ready to play.

Played Presidio/Mission on 2/23/16 which happens to be my birthday. Received the Birthday Special rate of $19 includes 18 w/cart and a drink. A cold tap Pale Ale was refreshing after the round. Overall the course was still winter dormant, but very enjoyable. Greens were fast, but a little beat up. Noticed a lot of workers on the course, so I think in a couple of months it will be back in great shape. This course has become my go to course because I always feel like I get value here. FYI, you can play here on the day before, the day of and the day after your birthday to get the special rate of $19.

Played the Blues on the Presido/Mission combo (6550/71.7/126) using Forelinx. POP was slow, 4H, 35M. Matched up with Mike, Mike & Ray for one of the most hilarious, fun rounds I have played in quite some time. These guys were needling each other on every shot, and they had multiple bets running on everything. There were several VERY EXPENSIVE short putts missed where their buddies were just BRUTAL on the guy who missed the putt. Reminded me of playing with my dad and his buddies when I was a teenager! The weather was almost perfect for golf. Sunny, in the 80's with enough swirling wind to constantly make you check. It varied from none to a 2 club wind on consecutive shots going in the same direction. The tees were slightly above average overall but varied considerably from tee to tee. Most were average but a few were immaculate and a few were poor. The fairways were winter thin but have really improved in the past 3-4 weeks. A few were CPO. The rough was playable but overall is below average. Predominantly winter thin with occasional lush and hardpan areas. The sand traps were well maintained with decent sand. The greens were excellent. Medium fast, smooth and firm. However, even well struck irons would often release. On both chip and pitch shots, the amount of roll you will get on firm, fairly fast greens was a primary consideration. For a busy course, the customer service of both the pro shop and the starter are excellent, very efficient! I was 10 people deep in line to check in when I arrived and they had me on the 1st tee matched up with a preset 3 some within 15 minutes? I like the layout and variety of the three 9's and especially like the greens here. Drink cart out making the rounds multiple times. I realize I am frugal, but $4 for an Arnold Palmer and $3.50 for a diet soda seem extreme however. Recommended = Yes, the conditions have definitely improved over the last 6-8 weeks.

Played the Blues on the Presido/Mission combo (6550/71.7/126) using Forelinx. POP on a busy holiday was slow, 4 1/2 H. Really enjoyed playing as a 4some with Prabhu, Adam & Maris. The weather was sunny and breezy in the 80's. The tees were maybe slightly above average overall. A few were immaculate and a few were poor. The fairways were winter thin but have really came around in the past 3-4 weeks. Some were CPO. They may actually be decent soon if they keep improving, which if you played here 6-8 weeks ago would have seemed almost impossible. The rough was predominantly winter thin with occasional lush and hardpan areas. Playable but below average. The sand traps had decent sand and were well maintained. The greens were very nice. Medium fast, smooth and firm. Even well struck irons would release and chipping needs to account for the amount of roll you will get on firm, fairly fast greens. The customer service has been good to excellent every time I have played here. The pro shop had me right out and quickly matched up. Drink cart out making the rounds. Fun course, I like playing here. I especially like these greens. Recommended = Yes, getting better.

Played the Blues on the Friars/Presido combo (6627/71.9/128) using Forelinx. POP on a busy weekend was slow, 4H, 35M. Waited on many holes but enjoyed playing as a 4some with Dan, Yarno & Chris. The weather was sunny, 80ish and breezy. The tees were decent overall but a mixed bag. Some were an 8/10 while others a 4/10. The fairways were mediocre, winter thin but much improved over the last time I was here. Some were CPO. The rough was winter thin with a few lush and hardpan areas. Playable but at best average. The sand traps were well maintained with decent sand. The greens were very nice. Medium fast, smooth and firm. Even well struck irons would release. The customer service was above average as usual here. The starter was informative and hustling to keep groups teeing off on time. Drink cart out making the rounds. Fun course, I like playing here. Recommended = I had fun today and will be coming back tomorrow.

Played Mission/Friars 1/29@6:40 with a couple other Forelinxers. Was pleasantly surprised at the fairway conditions on Mission as two weeks ago from the clubhouse all you could see were island greens. The fairways were decent and it seems all the 357 types of grass they consist of survived the flood. Coverage was good with just a few muddy spots at the lowest areas on the course. Tee boxes were okay. Greens were hard and fast, in very nice shape. Sand traps were in good shape. Friars fairways were another story. Many bare spots and thin if not bare with many patches throughout. Tee boxes were ok. Greens and bunkers were quite nice. My hat's off to the grounds crew for their efforts in getting the course up and running. As usual, the pro shop was excellent and special thanks to the starter for keeping what looks like chaos on the first tee friendly and somehow efficient.

Played the Blues on the Mission/Presido combo (6550/71.7/126) using Forelinx. POP on a busy weekday was slow, 4H, 35M. Waited on nearly every shot but enjoyed playing as a 4some with Amy. Ed & Ken. The weather was cloudy, 60ish and on/off sprinkling. The tees were winter thin. Some were an 8/10, others a 2/10. Mediocre overall, too many had severe divot damage. The fairways are poor overall. You could see where areas were flooded in the recent rain, so I'll give them a pass on those areas. However, the unflooded areas are some of the poorer fairways I have played on (except for Robinson Ranch) in a good while. The rough was winter thin with a few lush and hardpan areas. Very playable overall. The sand traps were well maintained with okay sand. The greens were medium fast bordering on fast. Bumpier than I remember them here previously and very firm. This combo definitely has the most water to avoid @ Riverwalk. On the Mission, several holes play around lakes, so it's a different experience than the other 2 nine's. Lakes or the river come into play on 6 of the 9 holes. The customer service was excellent. The Marshall's were out patrolling and the starter was informative and hustling to keep groups teeing off on time. Fun course, I like playing here. However, I agree with 14Over's assessment, I won't be back for awhile until they get the fairways under control. Recommended = not currently.
