Finished up my 3rd 18 of the day on 10/25, doing a replay at Riverwalk. Played the Blues on the Mission/Friars combo (6383/70.8/126) in partly cloudy weather. POP was excellent, about a 3 hour, 15 minute round as a 2some with a Japanese businessman in town for the week. The course was not busy with a Charger home game down the street. This is the shortest of the three combos @ Riverwalk. I like the Mission 9 the most of the 3 because of the variety of the holes. The tees were average, probably half lush and half thin. many par 3's needed divot repair. The fairways were mediocre overall. They were a mixture of GUR, hardpan, thin and lush areas. They were the only part of the course that was not at least good. The rough was good overall, more lush than thin, a few hardpan areas. The sand was very thick and hard to hit out of, very penal. The bunkers were well maintained and freshly raked. The greens were very nice, definitely the best part of the course. They were firm, medium fast and putted very well. The customer service was excellent. I walked in between rounds and was quickly out to play the next combination of nines. I would play here often if I lived in the greater S.D. area, the layout and the green conditions I experienced today would justify regular play.

Played the mission/Friars combo today. Course is in decent shape. Tee boxes were good with little damage. Fairways were just ok, lots of brown spots and bare dirt but also some green. Greens in good shape with lots of repaired ball marks. Sand was good in a few bunkers and had no trouble getting out. For the most part course was ok, not as good as I have seen it before but still very playable.

I always wanted to play this cource, the holes from the 8 freeway look really cool. Yesterday I got my chance as I had time towards the end of the day. I cant say I was treated well in the pro shop but I did manage to get off at a rate twice as high as the guy I was paired with but ok beggars cant be choosers . I did find the greens to be fast and the sand was in good shape , the fairways were pretty good but the tee boxes were really bare. The weather was nice and the guy I played with told me a strong breeze blows here most days. The course plays slow and because of the rate guys seem to feel the need to take their time and some of yours . A marshall with some teeth could really speed this place up a bit . I didnt find the course to be real interesting and as stated above didnt find the staff real helpful. I might come here again but only with a coupon I really believe this isnt a course worth 90 bucks mid week but the weather was cooler than anyplace around and with fast smooth greens sometimes thats enough but if your looking for a fast friendly round at a course that will stick out in your memory in my opinion this aint it

The event was fun like it always is, even if you play bad, there is still plenty of fun to be had when plying in a GK event.
This was my first trip to Riverwalk Golf Club. Practice facility was decent, you hit off of the grass for warm-ups and the have a split practice area. The weekend warrior area is by the club house and then the real practice facility is down the range when you first drive in the facility.
The practice green was nice, so it was exciting to know that the greens were going to be running quick.

On Course:
We started on Presidio? And the course was in good shape, considering the water conditions, but it played good. A lot of different types of shots and when the wind is going it can be some tricky shots as well. The first par 3 - was the area where everything came to a stop. Backed up about three groups on the tee.
The next holes helped to free up some time but still slowed down until about #6 - then it was off to the golf again.
Tee to green was in decent shape, fairway bunkers were in good shape (not too much sand so you can hit out of them), bunkers next to the greens where full of SOFT sand. And the greens on this side were a tad bit slower than the practice green.

Off to the next side of the mountain.
Again I think a little bit of local knowledge is good for this course, just to have an idea where to aim or how far the trouble actually is in play. Tee to green the course required some shots to take full advantage, GREENS on this side where much slower than the practice greens. So you have to adjust.

Overall the course is fun and will challenge your game. If I was closer I would play it again, because it is a fun course.

Played on Sunday, June 14, 2015 in overcast skies. Temperature around 71 degrees and light winds. I enjoyed playing with JohnnyGK, AndrewZ28, and my sister EvilT2 in the last group. We had a blast working our way around the Presidio/Mission combo! The staff at the course were great in all aspects of service!

The course follows both sides of the San Diego River up and down the hills and provides some risk/reward opportunities for the long hitters and more subtle challenges for the rest of the players.

The tee boxes were mostly level with a normal amount of divots for the volume of play. The fairways were not lush but adequate and had some GUR areas that were sodded in but provided good lies. The rough was not overly penal but still made you adjust your swing to escape cleanly. Fairway bunkers had good firm sand making it easier to pick the ball off the surface and move it forward. The greenside bunkers had fluffy sand with dampness underlying that took finesse to escape without skulling the ball! I did not possess that finesse on this day and got out of only one bunker with one stroke! The greens were smooth, fairly fast, had some unrepaired ball marks, and many had volcanoed cups that accepted only center cut strokes and diverting off center attempts including many lip outs. Clearly, these cups have not been moved in some time! Still, players with good touch were rolling in 28 putts!

Overall, the course is picturesque and interesting visually, provides variety and challenges, obviously provides a fun atmosphere for its locals and visitors alike, and battles the water shortages as do many other courses.

I applaud the maintenance crew for making necessary repairs where needed and maintaining the balance of the courses in playable condition. This is very much appreciated whether realized or not!

I recommend you play these 9 holes combos when you are in the San Diego area! You will not be disappointed.

I'm a little late to the party, but here's my review for Riverwalk based on playing in the GK Event.

Overall, I thought Riverwalk presented a fun round of golf with above average conditions. Even thought there were some bare spots in the fairways, I never had a bad lie. I did notice some GUR where new sod was being put in, but I look at that as a positive. The one thing that I felt was a huge plus were the greens. They rolled smooth, fast and held great. I really can do with some less than perfect fairways, rough and tees if the course is investing time and money into the greens, and that's definitely being done at Riverwalk.

I don't think Riverwalk presents any "wow" factor, but that doesn't mean that it lacks for a fun track to play. I hit a lot of different shots and was forced into paying a little attention which makes for a fun day. I also like the fact that it isn't an incredibly penal golf course. If you took a second longer when planning a shot you could really find quite a bit of bail out, which is great for golfers of all levels.

I have to say that everyone I met there was great, and I really, REALLY applaud management for thinking outside of the box and creating a pretty unique golfing experience. I thought the social media scorecard was super cool and I hope they keep hustling and trying things like this out.

I had a blast and I'm looking forward to getting back out to Riverwalk.

I want to sincerely thank everyone that came out to this GK Event again. I personally loved hanging out with so many of you. These events mean a lot to me. As for the golf course, I thought it was a very fun experience. We played the Presidio/Mission combo and it was loaded with interesting golf holes with many risk/reward shots. I thought the service was friendly on the course and I liked the Gimmie food truck on the first tee. Everyone I met that day had a great attitude. As far as conditions, I’m shaking my head a little bit about how critical some of the reviews have been about the fairways, too each his own on their opinion, I respect them all, but I have to disagree with reviews making the fairways out to be in poor condition. I took a hard look at them while playing and I’d say there was at least 90% coverage with just a few occasions did I see bare spots. Most every lie I found the ball was sitting up fine. Granted there was some different grasses as well as some new sod which did not look pretty, but they played fine. Relating to the greens, they were in excellent shape. Fast, mostly smooth and firm. The surrounding green complexes were all lush and the bunkers had fresh new sand that was well raked. In regards to the tee boxes, I had level stances all day and the grass was lush. Granted there was some divot damage but to be expected of a golf course that gets that much play in the heart of San Diego. As far as the rough adjacent to the fairways, it was mostly thin with some bare spots, but there were lush areas as well. The fairways bunkers had older firm sand which to be honest with you I like. I can’t stand soft sand in fairways bunkers. Nothing worse than a buried lie for a recovery shot. Now from a group organizer perspective, I loved the staging area of the practice putting green, carts and range all in one place. Made it very easy to keep track of all my players. I would recommend a few extra holes on the practice putting green although. Another recommendation would be to have the Mission 9 be the first tee when possible. It would have been cool to watch other groups teeing off and less complicated for golfers that have never played there before to find the first tee. Many times with events there are new players to courses. Something else I appreciated was how attentive the staff was. Sean, the Tournament Director was there for any of my needs. Even when we had a player forget a set of clubs, he was all over it. They had my check-in table, range balls and carts set up properly. They gave us a section of the bar area just for our group after golf. On the course they did a promotion called the social scorecard which resulted with some of our group taking advantage of to get some free drinks and food. In general, their staff was focused on us having a good time and it did not go unnoticed by me. This was a fun experience I intend to have many times again. We will be back.

Played 6-14-15 in the GK outing. Course was fun but some of the fairways and many tee boxes were beat up. A little hard to tee off when your feet are on bumps and in holes. Greens rolled perfect but were a bit hard so did not hold shots well. Theses were the fluffiest bunkers I have seen in a very long time. It took a little getting used to but that was because they are so rare to find. Tee shots take a little strategy. Hit driver,3wood, 3 hybrid and it took a little thought on which to play. Something I like in a course.

Played here on Sunday 6/14/15. As part of the GK event. The greens were in pretty good shape. The fairways and ruff have been in better condition but overall were decent. Not a fan of the bunkers sand seemed inconsistent depths and firmness. Tee boxes were relatively flat with minor divot damage. I would recommend this course if you are staying near qualcom stadium San Diego. Book online. If you call in you could be spending 90+ dollars teeing off text to someone who booked online and paid 50-60. The cart girl came around a few times the bar has limited food but a few decent beers.
