Played the blues on the Mission/Friars combo (6383/70.8/126) in partly cloudy weather with a few mixed sprinkles later in the day. It was chilly and windy as the day progressed. POP was excellent, about a 3 hour, 10 minute round. My first time playing the this combo together, it's the shortest of the three combos @ Riverwalk. I liked the layout of all three nines. The Mission has more water that comes into play than the other 9's. Not too many of the tees had severe divot damage. However, they were only average, probably half lush and half thin. The fairways were poor overall. They were a mixture of GUR, hardpan, thin and lush areas. They were the only part of the course that was not at least good. The rough was good overall, more lush than thin, a few hardpan areas. The sand was thick and hard to hit out of in the wet conditions, very penal. They were well maintained and freshly raked before the earlier storm went through. The greens were very nice. They were firm, medium quick and putted very well. Get them on the correct line and the ball would just trickle and trickle into the hole. They got faster and faster the less rain there was to slow them down, I would almost classify them as fast, which I rarely do. Downhill putts were treacherous. I would play here often if I lived in the greater S.D. area, the layout and the conditions I experienced today would justify regular play. The customer service was excellent. I walked in between rounds and was quickly out to play the next combination of nines. I played as a single for most holes this round and played through several groups, jumping around holes to finish.

Played the Blues on the Mission/Presido combo (6550/71.7/126) in partly cloudy, sometimes clear and sometimes drizzling chilly conditions on a weekday morning doing a replay. My first time playing the Mission 9, I had just played the Presido 9. I liked the layout of these nines. The Mission has more water that comes into play than the other 9's, so it's a different experience. Lakes or the river come into play on 6 of the 9 Mission holes. The tees were decent, probably half lush and half thin. Not too many had severe divot damage. The fairways had many GUR areas and were poor overall. The rest was a mixture of hardpan, thin and lush areas. The rough was generally good, more lush than thin, a few hardpan areas. The sand traps were very well maintained, you could tell they were all raked that morning. The sand was thick and hard to hit out of in the wet conditions, very penal. The greens were very nice and they got faster and faster the less rain there was to slow them down. They were firm, medium quick and putted very well. Get them on the correct line and the ball just glided into the hole. Above the hole on numerous greens was severe, you either made it or had 15 to 20' coming back. The customer service was excellent. I walked in between rounds and barely had a sentence out of my mouth and the guy behind the counter produced an already made up card for my cart and immediately got me back on Mission #1 tee, matching me up with a 2some for 9 holes, then I played as a single for the last 9. The marshalls were out patrolling and enforcing cart path only. I would play here often if I lived in the greater S.D. area.

Played 5/8 for $19 on the GK B-Day voucher, thanks Riverwalk! Played the Blues on the Friars/Presido combo (6627/71.9/128) in rainy, chilly conditions that ranged from a drizzle to a downpour on a weekday morning. This is the longest of the combinations to form 18 hole here. My first time here, I liked the layout of these nines. Almost every hole was open on 1 side (trees, traps & rough) and penal on the other (usually red stakes). Therefore, you could pick your poison on whether you wanted to play it more direct and bring the numerous red areas into play or play safer. The tees were decent, not too many had severe divot damage, probably half lush and half thin. The fairways were poor. Many GUR areas, the rest was a mixture of hardpan, thin and lush areas. The rough was generally good, more lush than thin, a few hardpan areas. The sand traps were very well maintained. The sand was thick and hard to hit out of in the rain, very penal. The greens were very nice, even better than the Crossings that I played yesterday. Even in the rain, they were firm, medium quick and putted very well. The customer service was excellent. I had a 6:57 tee time and since it was raining, there were numerous groups playing "wait and see". They got me right out a little after 8 and I played in less than 3 hours by myself. The marshalls were out patrolling and enforcing cart path only. Normally, I hate playing in the rain, but I still enjoyed this course. I would play here often if I lived in the greater S.D. area.

Played mission/Friars today. Course is in ok condition. The punched half the greens and put the flag on the non punched side. Only problem is on every whole they punched the back half of the green. Which meant every putt was downhill and the greens were pretty fast. I'm not sure why they couldn't do some variety in which half of the green they punched? Tee boxes were pretty good and level and easy to hit from. Fairways were hit and miss, mostly green but a lot of dry spots. Bunkers were the best part of the course with good sand in most of them. We had good pace of play at just around 4 hours.

Played the presido/mission today and you know it's bad when the starter says as you pull up to the first tee that it's going to be a long day and boy was he right. Just shy of a six hour round, pretty brutal pace today.

Greens would be fantastic if people would repair their ball marks. Pace was a little above medium. Some greens seemed to have a yellow fungus but it didn't seem to affect the greens nor where the pins in these areas.

Fairways were quite bad. Very patchy, thin and inconsistent. There were times when I thought it was better to hit of of the rough. Also seemed to be the case on mission more that there were areas marked in white for ground under repair.

Rough wasn't bad not too penalizing to be in. Sand was inconsistent. Found 2 bunkers and one was great nice and soft. The other was hard and crusty. First one was nice and white sand the second one was much darker sand. Not sure how the course has two different types of sand.

Tee boxes are ok, we played blue and they weren't as beat up as the whites.

Was caught with no place to go so I settled for this. Staff was nice and marshal was out there but I didn't see any openings so I'm not sure what he can really enforce. Riverwalk seems to attract the tourist and generally some bad golfers who think they are great golfers. One the plus side I have never seen the grass part of the range open before and today it was. Just not a course with memorable holes. I think there are better values around town.

Both 9s are in similar condition and are good.

Got out on Sunday at 1 while the family went to Sea World. Walked on as a single and was put on the Friars/Presidio course. I wish I had time to book through Golfnow because they only charged 34 while walking up cost 45 with cart. Was a fairly busy day with the Friars 9 taking about 2.5 hours waiting on every shot. When we got to the Presidio 9 it sped up and we actually finished in 4 hours and 20 minutes. I guess the 3 groups ahead went to the other 9 holes.
Conditions: Tee boxes were level and had some divot damage but not alot. People need to use the divot mix next to the tee boxes on par 3s. Fairways were tight and thin with some bare spots. The group I was paired with who were from New York wanted to know if all courses in Cali were like this. Rough was not too thick and it was not penal, so you could easily get a club on the ball. Traps had good sand but had some rocks mixed in. Greens were very fast and if you were on the wrong side of the hole then lagging any putt near the hole was impossible. Course knowledge comes in very handy.
I actually liked the Presidio 9 better than the Friars 9. I would like to try the Mission 9 next time I am in the area.
I enjoyed killing some time while the family was having fun so I enjoyed the round. Next time I will come prepared.

Course was in good condition.
Tee boxes mostly level with just a few divots.
Fairways were a mixed bunch but never had a bad lie.
Rough was minimal.
Bunkers were full of fluffy, but wet sand (it was raining off and on).
Greens were very fast even with the rain, rolled very nicely and excepted well struck shots, but most bounced forward.
POP (aka Pace Of Play) was very good, just over 4 hours.
I just want to say that Riverwalk is very well run from what I have seen.
For one I had trouble logging on to the website yesterday afternoon so called and got my time booked for the web price no problem, thanks to the Pro (sorry forgot his name).
Also, the on course/pro shop/ starter staff are always very helpful and friendly. Kudos to all of them!
Overall always a good experience for me!

Played on Sunday 12/7 for a pretty cheap rate and I found out why it was cheap when I got into my round. The greens where recently punched on the Mission course and very bumpy. The course throughout had suffered damage and flooding problems from the recent storms but not much has been done to clean it up. Debris fields all over the place, most bunkers totally mud and overall poor conditions. Starter sent people out in front of us in the change from course to course which slowed our pace.
