Booked a 6:37 time for $59 this morning. Ended up teeing off in first group out on Mission nine with another twosome. We cruised around the front in a nice 1.5-hour pace then hit the wall at the turn as there were still 9-hole groups going off on Friars. We had to wait awhile to tee off on our 10th hole and then waited a lot on every hole after that for a terrible back nine pace of 2:45. This 27-hole setup is definitely not suited for us dawn patrollers.

Beyond the pacing issues on the back nine, the course was in good overall shape for winter. Tee boxes great. Fairways very tight with a mix of grasses growing in various patches, but mostly in good shape. Rough patchy, with some great lush/thick areas that were brutal to play from and other spots where rough was no factor at all. I would say both the fairways and rough were better on the Mission nine than on Friars. Friars had a lot more thin spots. I was in one bunker and it was damp, but the sand seemed fine enough. The greens were the highlight as they were in really nice shape. Receptive, rolling smooth and looking great!

This was my second time here, but my first time playing the Mission nine. Now that I've played them all, I'd probably prefer the Presidio/Mission combo. Friars doesn't do much for me. Prices really seem to vary greatly here, but reasonable deals can be found and it's a good overall facility. I wish they could space out the tee times and routing better. Both times I've been here, the back nine has taken significantly longer than the front with some groups starting and others making the turn.
