Started a bit early (tee time was at 7am, went off at 6:40am) and got around as a twosome in less than four hours. The place is always a bit frantic around the clubhouse, but the staff seemed to handle it well this morning.

Tee boxes: Small, the markers were 3 to 4 paces apart max. Weird as they had plenty more room to use?
Fairways: Pretty decent, some wet areas, some hardpan, some burnt,(but hey, it's summertime!) but mostly very playable.
Rough: 3 to 4 inches and thick enough to cause a bother.
Bunkers: Most were pretty good, a bit wet a firm, but consistent.
Greens: They just punched front half of the greens (and you could hardly tell) and put the pin on the back. The greens were better than any I've played since this heat spell has been going. Very smooth, medium speed, although still many ball marks. Someday people may learn to fix there ball marks . . . until then I will continue to fix many of them for them.

Good POP, good conditions, good price (off their web-site) $49 with cart, nice greens, overall a good time.I use to have a bad opinion of this place, but now I'll be back more often!

Wouldn't pay straight rack rate though . . . does anyone anymore?

Played Mission-Friars this morning at 6:37 tee time. I think we teed off around 10 minutes early and got around in about 3:30. The course was in nice condition, highlighted by the greens. Very soft, very receptive, very smooth – not super fast, but pretty quick. The fairways were a mixed bag, patches of great lush grass where the ball sat up beautifully, and then patches that were sort of brown and a little more clumpy. Same for the rough. Most of the bunkers were quite good, but one was a little wet and packed.

Two holes on the Mission nine had odd tee placements for the blues. On the first hole, no one had bothered to move the ball washer, which restricted a backswing for half the tee box. On another hole, the tee markers were placed way at the back of the box under overhanging tree branches; there was literally no way to swing, so we played from a few yards forward. Would be nice to see them think a little more about this type of thing.

The price I paid was a great example of not overlooking a course's own website to get the best deal. Earlier yesterday I almost pulled the trigger on a GolfNow price of $54, but then later it was gone. EZLinks had times but only at full price of $89. I forget if click4teetimes had anything here, but I ended up getting a $49 rate directly from Riverwalk's website late last night.

I'd never played here before and I liked the layout quite a bit. When I was a kid and judged courses by how much water comes into play, I would have absolutely loved this course. It seemed like there were lakes on about 40% of the holes.

Played 8/12 9:45 am tourney. Mission/Friars. The course is in overall good to great shape. A couple of dry and then soggy areas mixed in the fairway's but most in good to great shape. Greens where running at about med/fast and a little bumpy from foot prints remaining, but appeared to have had only minor effects. A couple veered weirdly off line, but most ran fairly true. Pace wasn't bad for a Sunday with two tourneys going. Any bargains would make the course well worth playing.

Hadn't played here in a couple years because the price is usually a little too high for the quality. Found a reasonable price $39 for a noon tee time and thought I'd give them another shot. I'll be quick with it and say I wont be back again anytime soon. Unfortunately the course has gotten a little beat up for whatever reason and there is a noticeable deterioration in the upkeep. The carts that once had GPS are no more and the service is just okay (not bad by any means just eh). I just fell that for the price (usually around $50), the course could be in better shape.

Greens were okay, a little soft and bumpy but not awful or anything.
Fairways with some dead spots, uneven tee boxes.
Not the worst place to play, but again, I feel the price is too high for the quality.

First thing I should mention is American Golf is out and Touchstone golf is in. it was kind of a cluster to start. The starter was there 20-30% of the time leaving a lot of golfers very confused. Not sure what was going on but the whole operation seemed very disorganized but the round actually only took 4 hours so maybe they have a method to their madness.
I paid a discounted rate through a friend, but the rack rates here are way overpriced. Fortunately you can nearly always find a deal somewhere. It seems like I get an email from them daily.

We played the Presidio-Mission combo and thoroughly enjoyed the round. Highlight of the course is the greens. They were smooth and med/fast. Fair amount of undulation but not enough to make it annoying. Fairways are okay, definitely some hardpan here and there. Tees are fine and the bunkers I was in were good. It is not a long course and typically you can miss one side or the other. Creek and trolley runs through the course so you can definitely find trouble if you miss on the wrong side. Wind can be tricky adding a club or two if you are heading into it.

Overall it's fun course that you can score on. I would guess that most play here because it is one of the most convenient courses in the city and is usually in fair to good shape. If you can get a deal you'll be glad you played here.

Played Presidio / Mission on Memorial Day morning. Course was in decent shape, not as nice as a couple months ago. Greens were quite firm, i had a hard time staying near where i landed, which lead to a ton of putts (4, 3-putts), which lead to a crap score. overall fun though. the only real complaint i have is that the girl at the bar decided to leave and go back in the kitchen for like 10 minutes while we stopped at the turn. this lead to a leisurely front 9 being disrupted by people stacking up on the mission back 9 because everyone was waiting. i know, a ridiculous complaint, i'll leave now.

The customer service in their Pro Shop (management of) left something to be desired.

We had an 8 AM tee time on Saturday the 13th and were checking in an hour in advance. The line for check-in wound all the way out to the front door. There was only one person at the front desk (doing the best he could) to check in players for their 3 9-hole courses. When their sales person arrived, he looked at the line and dissappeared into an office instead of pitching in.

The length of the line and the long wait solicited some angry words when an out-of-towner who didn't allow sufficient time and was seen to be cutting in the line. He was late for 7:07 time but still received an angry ear full. Their "Cart Girl" finally filled in to help out. This this seems to have occurred every time I have played there... so allow enough time!

Otherwise the course was in good condition and the pace of play was good.

Haven't played here since last summer and I found the course(Presidio/Mission) in great shape with the following exception; the front half of the greens have been aerated and should be "healed" within 7-10 days but still very playable. The greens are soft and fast but NOT as fast as the putting green. Fairways are in better than average condition. Good sand in the traps. A special word about the starter, friendly, cheerful and helpful. Pace of play was just over 4 hours. Lots of workers on the course but they were very courteous and did not affect play.

We played Mission/Friars with the Torrey Pines Mens Club on 3/8/13.

I have been a critic of Riverwalk because of the poor conditions recently, but the course was in pretty good condition. The greens were soft, pure and fast, and it was noticeable that they are working hard to improve the course. While there were workers on the course, they were very courteous and didn't impact play.

The rough is still pretty "rough", but the bunkers, greens and fairways were nice. Especially the greens. They were super smooth. The only problem was that the speeds were too fast for some of the greens. Shots above the holes were a often a sure three putt, if missed. And I even heard of a five putt on Friars. I had a three putt from four feet above one hole. But I made a lot of putts to make up for it.

The service was great! They even had an outside bar-b-q set up for us with burgers, dogs and deli sandwiches. Torrey Pines would never do that.

Given the poor conditions at many of the local courses these days, Riverwalk should be commended for the efforts that they're showing to improve the course and experience.

They are punching later this month, but say that they are punching 1/2 the green, at a time.
