Got out on Thursday and it was a little chilly, but the sun finally came out. Got behind a very slowww group but the marshall was good and finally made them stop and allow a few groups play through, thats what happens when you are 3 holes behind, wish more marshalls would do that. Course is in great shape. I don't understand the complaints about these greens, they are fast, but the undulations on them are not bad and I have never seen them unfair and today was no exeption, the half of the greens that were punched were in good shape and the other half were very nice. Fairways and rough were lush and in great shape and the sand was not bad, firm and easy to move the club through. Fun time, wish I would have scored better, but oh well.

Played 3-22 at 10... Course is in fantastic shape, everything is lush, traps are a little heavy but I think that is usual for Riverwalk. Unfortunately, they decided to Aerate a little earlier than advertised here but oh well (only half of greens) ... Not sure what "steve165" is so upset about. Greens here roll fast because they are well kept and cut close. The more high-end the course tends to be, the more greens roll like that. As always, you gotta putt well because here, it will roll by 5 feet if you don't.

What is the deal with these greens!!! They are the fastest, rock hard and most unfair goofy golf greens I have ever seen. I played in a SCGA golf outing and there were 2 holes where people were 5 and 6 putting. Perhaps there was even a 10 putt that I did not know about. There were some pins in locations where if you hit it past or left/right you are looking at a almost certain 3 putt. What is the greenskeeper here trying to prove? I don't even want to come within 1000 yards of this course let alone play it ever again. I don't even want to comment on anything else due my hatred of these greens which have ruined my and many others' golf tournament today.

Played down at Riverwalk this morning. It was very crowded with the pre-Superbowl crowd and also a collegiate women's tourney going off in the afternoon. The staff seemed very disorganized. Line out the pro shop door of people waiting to check in, starter area was a mess with one guy trying to coordinate groups going off all three nines.

The course, though, was in really nice shape, especially considering all the traffic. Everything was pretty green and grass was lush in most fairways and rough. The greens were in good shape, although they were playing very firm and very fast. The layout here is nothing too spectacular, but the greens were the challenging part today. They had the pins in tough placements for the women's tournament and it was hard to get anything to stay close to the hole. We played the Friars/Presidio nines. Front nine was great pace (about 2 hours), but back nine slowed to a crawl with the three nines intertwining. Back nine took just under 3 hours. I wouldn't go out of my way to play here again, but I enjoyed the course more than I had expected after reading a number of negative reviews here on GK.

The course is definetly in winter mode. They are trying to get it ready for spring and summer. The tee boxes are average and the fairways aren't great. Like I said they are taking care of them so when spring hits it is in good shape.

That being said, the greens were still awesome. Rolled great. No bumps. Made it worth the money. Last minute deal on golfnow.

This course gets a lot of play. If you go out early in the morning you can finish in 3 1/2 hours. If you wait, it can be a very long day out on that course.

Not worth the money unless you can get of early on Golf Now or Golfzing.com. Staff is rude and short (in attitude as well as stature). 3 nines are in good shape, gps on carts is nice, but the course is not challenging at all.... boring. For the money, you can play alot of other local courses even cheaper than this one. I'm sure I will play it again when friends or visitors want to, but it won't be in my top choices.

Played 11-21-11 with my two roommates and some guy named Rory on Friars/Presido ($22 Hot-Deal on GolfNow). Following three consecutive weekends of heavy rain, much of the course was absolutely soaked thanks to the SD river's annual floodings (closing the Missions course), however, casual water rules were in effect so the water was not much of an issue. All the rain led to Cart Path Only, as one would expect. Now to my review:

Experience:
- Round played in 3:36
- Shot an 81 (37/44)
- No cart lady :(
- Good times; Great friends

Greens:
- Soft due to rains
- Rolled about a 10.5-11; fastest I've ever seen at Riverwalk, especially after rain.
- Smooth, but footprints/ballmarks were occasionally issue but no one had played in 2 days b/c of the rain

Fairways:
- Looked fresh from the tee and played the same (except the occasional temporary rain lakes, haha)
- Well defined fairway/rough edge at almost all times

Tees:
- Clean cut with minimal divot damage
- No serious bumps/uneven terrain

Rough:
- Lush, but never too thick that your ball was buried, or thin/bare that you could've just played the fairway. (3-5 inches)

I play riverwalk every Saturday. Here is the skinny... Course is always very well maintained. Greens are always taken care of and roll true, rough is always lush though not overly punishing, sand plays heavy in bunkers but is clean of pebbles, fairways are always nice. Its a fun track to play although not overly difficult. IMO the only downside can be pace of play. This course is booked all the time and if you want to tee off at prime time, your round can take 5 hours. Other than that... Its a great track to play.
