Golf Course Reviews: California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Utah, Florida, Hawaii!played sat 2/1, 8am shotgun. course in fabulous shape. Greens are firm and fast, running 11. Course lush, rough semi dormant. bunkers were mostly playable, but seemed inconsistent. The greens here, out of the 3 i played, were the most undulating and the pins were demanding. It was near impossible to hold a green, and chipping to some pin placements were impossible and you had to play away from the pin. You definitely needed to know where to miss, and even then, you had to miss right. I hit some good shots that normally would've given me a makeable putt, but they ended up rolling off the green, one time 50 ft. Part of it is knowing where to aim to play it, which requires playing it over and over, part of it felt unfair. the facility is amazing, and we had a great time on a beautiful day.
played fri 1/31, 12:15 tee time, 5:15 round, finished in the dusk. First time here in a long time, so I can't remember what it was like before the renovation. Course in fabulous shape, coming off the pga event 2 wks ago. Pretty immaculate, really. Greens firm, running 11. challenging course with water all over. Rough is dormant, but playable. Fairways running fast. A strenuous test all around.. need to keep it out of the water off the tee, hitting the green is no given, and putting is challenging. beautiful day as well. carts have a great speaker system for your tunes, but the gps was a bit sketchy. Overall had a great time.
Played 12/23, walked on as single at 7:10, teed off at 7:30. 4 hr round as a 3 some. I was determined to hit this course on this trip, as it's the best visitor deal around, and no one seems to know about it. course in much better shape than my last visit. Fairways had good coverage. greens in great shape: a fast 10 down grain, slow 9 into the grain. Very fun course. carts with gps, though they don't seem to take care of their carts. interesting holes with mostly wide fairways. Greens challenging. Tough par 3s. Helps to have course knowledge of the greens to know where to aim on approaches. Had a great time

Played Fri 12/20. Walked on as a single at 7:15am, they got me on at 8:30 (so went and got breakfast nearby, recommend Kapiolani coffee shop). First off, it's now called Pearl at Kalauao. It was closed for like 2 years for course renovations, and just opened 12/18 i think. Not sure what they did.. I think redid the greens and bunkers, reseeded , cut some vegetation... the routing seems very similar. Anyways, was excited to get back out here, as I feel this is the best public non resort course. It's all I remembered: interesting holes, elevation changes, great views of the harbor. Course in above great shape. Greens grainy, firm, fast 10 downgrain, slow 9 into the grain. A tiny little bit bumpy, as ball marks were shallow enough not to be fixed cuz of the firmness. ball settled down in rough, but playable.
New carts with gps. Putting green is closed until next month. Fresh spam musubi in the pro shop for sale. Slow round, but had a great time.

played sun 12/15, 7:45, 4:40 round. another socal nostalgia stop for me, must be a decade since I played here last. Actually, the clubhouse was not finished. So, cold morning. Course in pretty good shape. Greens firm and fast. lots of unfixed ball marks.. small ones, cuz the firmness, so had to smooth out a lot of marks on my line. very grainy, which i never fully figured out. Probably 12 downgrain, 10 up grain. Rough is dormant. Bunkers not raked all over. Need to have good course knowledge to score here. Had a good time.
Played back 9 on Sat, 12/14, 7am.. walked on as a single and was able to go off the back, otherwise pretty busy. 2:15 as a 3 some. First time here in a decade, so nice to have the nostalgia of an old course. Sometime since I was last here, they flipped the 9s... Greens in good shape, slow 11, so pretty quick. Course in good muni shape. Had a good time.
Played shotgun on 11/23 Sat... I've been out here once before maybe 15-20 years ago, before all of the housing... I don't remember it at all. But it was a fun course. Challenging off the tee, lots of forced carries and tight landing areas. Greens are big and undulating. Forecaddies are required, and a huge help. I don't think I would've enjoyed it as much without, as I would've made a lot of course knowledge mistakes. Greens running a slow 11. The course is in great shape. Nice to play to cross it off the list, but I think it'd be a mental grind to play here regularly.
Played Fri and Sun 11/21 and,24... Fri 12:18 4:40 round finished in the dark, Sun 8am shotgun, about 5 hr pace. Course in fabulous shape. Greens running about a fast 11.. huge and undulating. Always love coming out here when I get the opportunity. Rained overnight Sat, course no issues, greens a little softer and slower, but felt like they returned to Fri speeds on the back 9. This is my favorite So Cal public course.
Played sunday 10/13, 10:20 tee time; played 4 1/2 hrs. course in good shape. greens are recovered from the punching about 5 weeks ago, but greens slow and bumpy, about a fast 9. I always enjoy playing here.
Played Wed 10/2, shotgun scramble... after never playing here in over 20 years of golf, I've now played here twice in 3 months. Greens were even slower than last time. Overall decent muni shape. It's golf... I had fun.
EDIT: i see according to the GK page, this course punched 3 weeks ago... I couldn't tell. They were completely healed, soft as heck... but that might explain why they haven't been mowed in a while.

played sun 9/8, 8:30 minishotgun. hot day. course in decent shape. greens were a little bumpy and tons of poorly repaired ball marks. but rolled ok if you fixed them. fast 10 on the stimp. fairways in good shape. tee boxes so so. Overall in good shape other than the greens. I haven't been out here in in over a decade, and the more I play this, the more I find myself not liking the layout. Challenging... forced carries over the tee and to the greens on a few holes. course knowledge is very important... as avoiding hazards and having good ball placement are integral to scoring well here. greens are huge and tough putting, which makes the bumpiness more noticeable. a lot of quirkyness to the course. restaurant is great and the staff is wonderful.
Played Wed 9/4, 7:15 tee time, 2 some, with some waiting, played in under 4 hrs. course in pretty good muni shape. Greens are running a fast 9, mostly good... a lot of tamping down ball marks. Fairways are even and above average. A few soggy spots off the fairway. Not bad at all. the one bunker I landed it was really good. dense, but soft, if that makes sense. I don't get out here often.. it's a Dye brother creation, short from the tips (6100), not a ton of trouble, but enough to keep you thinking on half the holes. Had a good time. Punching next week, so plan accordingly
