Played 4/9, walked on (at) 0545 and teed off (at) 0635, finished 1020. AWESOME course for the price ($30 walking). Unfortunately, I still feel like the starter and the snack bar employees think they are doing me a favor by working there. The course is well kept with exception of the sand traps which run the gamut from standing water to cement hard with very few being of a quality that successful play out of them will occur. Greens are VERY nice and VERY FIRM and putting is always a challenge. The tee boxes are in need of a little grooming and you will need to check them from the back to keep away from the slant. The whites play a little over 6200 yards but with todays placement, I should have played the blues as there wasn't much difference.

Played 8/23, tee time 0633. Beautiful course in top notch shape. One of the harder courses in San Diego that rewards skillful play and makes those that play poorly suffer. Plenty of challenge on the course and one definitely NOT suited for high handicappers (30+) or bringing new ideas from the range. Putting well is required along with knowing distances, which begs the only problem I have found with this course: The yardage book available at the Pro Shop doesn't match the marked sprinklers or markers on the course. Easy to figure out and the book does show true yardage to features off the tee, so combining the two is the best to figure yardage. It gets HOT and humid for several days after it rains, so make sure you have water and have properly hydrated or suffer the consequences!

Played 8/2 with two tee times (at) 0607 and 0614, played the first tee time with a 3-some and we finished just over 3 1/2 and the second tee time was a 4-some and they finished just over 4 hours. The course is in great shape until the approach on 6 which is under repair, also fairways 12, 13 and 15, but amazingly these areas weren't marked as ground under repair. Some tee boxes are crowned, so check the out as you stand at the cart and from behind looking down the fairway. The greens are in excellent shape but have pock marks from people setting the flag down and letting it drop to the green. The layout is challenging and will frustrate even the best of players on some of the holes. One of the best deals (at) $47 for civilians and $33 for retired military! Professional and courteous staff, playing either side at this facility is an excellent way to spend a day golfing.

Walked on 7/31 (at) 530 AM but didn't tee off until 650 AM, finished right at 11 AM. Starter and Pro Shop personnel not very amicable and seemed like they were doing me a favor by letting me play. Food service lady was the same, like she should have been somewhere else, especially at the turn at 0900 with nothing made for lunch and snack bar closed she couldn't (or wouldn't) offer anything other than muffins or chips. When asked if she had any sandwiches made her reply was "thay haven't been cooked yet." (cooked?) Course was nice and green enough despite watering restrictions, though quite a few brown spots in the middle/edges of fairways and all roughs had more than enough dry spots. Pace of play was good, even with a gentleman that couldn't get his ball in the air and was easily shooting double bogie on every hole in the group. For $25 (walking)this is a great course and has a decent enough layout to make the round enjoyable and one that can't be played in autopilot. Be sure to play in the morning as the wind picks up around noon and can be a huge factor in afternoon rounds. Take water with you as there are only two water stations on the courrse but well placed to serve multiple holes.

Played 7/19 with two tee times (at) 6:30 and 6:40 for a group of 8. Teed of a little early and finished just over 4 hours. This is a course that if you don't have good managment, you will not play well, period. Playing sideways or even backwards should be considered with all bad lies as going for the green isn't always the best choice, unlike other courses around San Diego, and can leave you even worse off. The course is in great shape with tight fairways, killer rough and semi-fast greens. Lots of elevation changes and well placed obstacles to consider when making shot selections. The course has plenty of challenging shots and can be very rewarding with well intentioned play, as I have already said, going for the green isn't always the best play with some of the pin placements that the evil greenskeepers can come up with! If you live in San Diego, make sure you purchase the Player's Card for discounted greens fees at both Mt Woodson and Salt Creek. I did and the card has already paid for itself with the savings on greens fees ($45 at both courses on Sunday).

Played 7/12 with 0624 tee time, held up one spot but kept the round just over 4 hours. The course is very lush and green though with standing water in a lot of spots on the course. The greens are very receptive and I even got my ball to spin back on several holes. Pace of play was great with no one pressing us and us not having to wait on any shot. Plus, greens fees were $45 for some unknown reason making the day and course very enjoyable. Sycuan has done very well with these courses and I will gladly play regardless of the green fee (but $45 is awesome!). On another note, it gets HOT quickly when the sun tops the mountain, so bring or buy water and sunscreen.

Played 7/5 with 0630 tee time but teed off about 5 minutes early and finished under 4 hours. The course is in GREAT shape with only one or two fairways with bare spot at the edges of the fiarway and into the rough. The greens are quite slow and became even slower as they dried out with a few being a little too bumpy, but nothing to complain about after the hole was over. This course is always in good shape and easy enough to bring what's practiced on the range onto the course, but with enough challenge that attention needs to be paid to the current shot. Tee boxes need to be checked to ensure your not teeing above or below your feet as several were in bad spots today. The only problem I have is no water available on the course and the snack bar opens after 9 AM on Sundays, so bring your own.

Played 6/28 tee time 0615, finished at 1000. The course is in the best shape of all the courses I have played this year. With one tee box severly divoted and another sloping back to front, both due to poorly placed tee markers, and the fairways, rough and greens in great shape, this course makes for an excellent round. At par 70 with only two par 5s, I thought it would be rather easy, but it proved enough of a challenge to make club and shot selection important. The only true complaint (and this is for every course) is that people don't follow the "repair your divot + 1 other" rule, heck they don't even repair their own much less someone elses! Anyway, this is a course that will go on my "circuit" and will be played often.

Played 23 June 0615 tee time, slightly overcast making for a cool round with no one around ahead or behind by several holes. Ivanhoe is in much better shape than the Lakes, a little too much water in some areas and around the edges of greens, making the fringes rather spongy and the making the bump and runs rather harder than they should have been. Overall the course is in excellent shape and very enjoyable.

Walked on 3/8 and teed off at 0725, unfortunately behind back to back Japanese foursomes (VERY slow players with no course etiquette and had to repaired 5-6 divots on every green). Other than waiting every shot, the course has been well maintained, though they are redoing the 11th fairway and have changed on of my favorite par 4's in San Diego to a 142 yard par 3. The staff in the pro-sop, the starter and the wait staff were very courteous and did their best to ensure they could provide anything that was requested. Always an enjoyable course and one well suited to take the driving range ideas onto the course.

Played Friday 3/6, walked on with two others, picked up fourth at 1033. Tee boxes and fairways were in excellent shape but greens had just been punched and sanded the previous week so there was no true roll and reading the greens was impossible. Everything considered, the South course is in great shape and when the greens recover, this will, once again, be an excellent course to improve your game.

Played 2/15/09 0651 tee time with about a 15 minuted frost delay, played Canyon/Ranch. From stepping out of the car in front of the clubhouse to parking the cart after 18, this was the best day of golf I have experienced in a very long time. The staff was professional and courteous, giving haeds up about play and any known temp hazards getting corrected. The course was extremely well kept with very little damage on the tees and fairways. Did have to repair an extra divot on the green but I think that was due to the group in front of us, but otherwise the greens were immaculate if a little too fast. The only improvement would be more yardage markers in and around the fairways as I didn't know there were yardage books available. All in all a great riound at a great course that I will certainly be visiting again soon.
