Made it back to Mountain Meadows with a buddy to play a staggeringly warm summer afternoon in Pomona with temperatures into triple digits. Sadly there was no cart service and a blacked out grill/bar with no power, melting ice and cash only. What can you do sometimes?

We played the white tees (riding of course - very basic carts/no GPs) and found the course to really be showing off its better side. You know the saying - 'It's a great course when it's in really good shape.' Well, that's happening now. Impressive fairway coverage and lies with that much sun to deal with every day ... rough is also thick and healthy. Very few hot spots on the course and an intriguing layout with some real challenger holes, but fun all along the way.

Greens are in really great shape and very fun to play ... a little mix of every trick, but all fair and non-gimmicky whatsoever. Rolling faster than you expect, slower than where it ends up landing ... they're tough but enjoyable. You can also hold shots on them which is great.

Bunker and tee boxes all in good to often bordering on great condition. It's really top marks all around right now and I highly recommend getting that 6am tee time to beat the heat - would be ideal right now. Very good value as well ... highly recommended.
